Hong Kong welcomes hit Mughal exhibition with more than 100 works of art

An exhibition featuring more than 100 works of art such as jewellery, weaponry and fragments of architectural history from the Mughal court – a Muslim dynasty encompassing most of present-day South Asia – opened in Hong Kong on Wednesday. Advertisement The Hong Kong Palace Museum is the first stop on the travelling show's itinerary and the only one in Asia. The original London edition, which attracted 150,000 visitors, concluded earlier this year. Other destinations for the 'Treasures of the Mughal Court from the Victoria and Albert Museum' exhibition have yet to be announced. 'We are also looking at the link with China – that's one of the themes that runs throughout the show here in Hong Kong which we've only hinted at in London,' said Emily Hannam, curator of the South Asia collection at the British institution. 'Although there were no diplomatic relations between the Chinese court and the Mughal court, we look at three distinct areas of this connection throughout the show,' she said, referring to ceramics, jade and paintings. Advertisement According to Hannam, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London has been collecting Mughal art since its founding in the 1850s and boasts one of the most important collections outside of India. The exhibition traces the development of Mughal art through the reigns of three emperors – Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan.

Minister Lokesh pushes for housing, infrastructure in Mangalagiri

GUNTUR: HRD, IT, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh has directed officials to ensure the distribution of house site pattas to 2,000 families in Mangalagiri constituency by August as part of the second phase of the land distribution scheme. During a review meeting at his Undavalli residence, Lokesh, who is also the Mangalagiri MLA, said land worth Rs 1,000 crore had already been issued to 3,000 families in the area. He stressed the need for speedy land acquisition for TIDCO housing projects and the development of parks near colonies in the constituency. Additionally, Lokesh also reviewed progress on integrated underground utilities, covering drainage, water, gas, and electricity, in the Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation. He underscored the need for the timely completion of 31 community halls, 26 parks, and crematoriums being developed under CSR and government funds. Furthermore, the minister instructed officials to expedite flood-control works in Mahanadu Colony along with park development, and to complete the model library near the Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple and Nidamaru model village by September. Plans are underway to upgrade Mangalagiri Eco Park into an adventure destination and to launch projects like the Smart Street Bazaar with 350 stalls, a Rs 2-crore fish market at Polakampadu, and a Gems and Jewellery Park. The officials were also tasked with ensuring pothole-free roads, better traffic management, and full streetlight coverage. Officials from the corporation and other departments were present.

SRK Rocks Huge 'K' Pendant, Black Suit By Sabyasachi In Met Gala 2025 Grand Debut

Last Updated: Shah Rukh Khan accessorised with Sabyasachi High Jewellery featuring multiple statement chains at the MET Gala 2025 Shah Rukh Khan has embraced 'dandyism' in his style for many decades and the MET Gala was not different. MET Gala 2025 marked the global superstar's debut on the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art's stairs. Even in uniformity, Sabyasachi maintained Shah Rukh Khan's individuality. An homage to the iconic house insignia, the Royal Bengal Tiger, its beauty, ferocity and strength was celebrated with Shah Rukh Khan. Shah Rukh walked on the blue carpet sporting a walking stick—a handcrafted wooden beauty with a solid gold tiger head. Sabyasachi has always believed that the future of artisanal crafts and handwoven textiles is in luxury, and that is India's biggest strength and contribution to both fashion and jewellery. Styled by Shaleena Nathani, Shah Rukh's MET Gala look was accentuated with Sabyasachi High Jewellery pieces featuring multiple statement chains. The highlight of the jewellery pieces was the SRK encrusted pendant and the massive K pendant embellished with diamonds that showed everyone who the real King is. Shah Rukh's all black ensemble featured a long blazer. Shah Rukh blew kisses to the fans on the blue carpet and showed everyone who the true Kind of Cinema is! While we expected some desi dandyism in SRK's style, we love that he never fails to leave an impressionable impact wherever he goes. MET Gala was iconic and he is the first Indian male actor to grace fashion's biggest night. With the focus on suiting and menswear, the red carpet saw silhouettes and accessories styled and interpreted by various celebrities including Zendaya, Teyana Taylor, Lewis Hamilton, Emma Chamberlain, Gigi Hadid, Joe King, Sydney Sweeney, Pharrell Williams, Gina Alice, Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Mona Patel, Zoe Saldana, Miley Cyrus, Diana Ross, among others. This year's MET Gala was co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour. First Published: May 06, 2025, 04:29 IST
