Jey Uso retains the World Title on the anniversary of his WWE debut
With the world title on the line and the referee down, interference ran rampant as a Samoan warrior emerged victorious, still the champion. For a moment, it felt like a throwback to the days when Roman Reigns ruled the ring. Instead, it was Jey Uso who stood tall, successfully defending his title against Logan Paul at Saturday Night's Main Event. After the show, Uso reflected on his journey to becoming World Heavyweight Champion, which began exactly 15 years ago that Saturday. Advertisement 'I appreciate every single one of y'all, man, on my journey, and it's still going. From the bottom of my heart, man, I love y'all,' said Uso as he spoke to the fans in Tampa's Yuengling Center. That emotional moment was grounded in history. Uso referenced his time in Tampa, where he and his brother Jimmy once wrestled for Florida Championship Wrestling, WWE's developmental system before NXT. For over a decade, Jey and Jimmy dominated WWE's tag team scene, culminating in 2023, when the twin duo headlined WrestleMania 39 and Money in the Bank. In many ways, Uso's ascension mirrors that of WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart. For nearly seven years, Hart and his partner Jim Neidhart were arguably WWE's preeminent tag team. As the Hart Foundation, they captured two world tag team titles and had several memorable encounters with the British Bulldogs, Demolition, and The Rockers. After the team amicably parted ways, Hart began climbing the ranks of WWE's singles division. In 1991, he defeated Mr. Perfect at SummerSlam to win the Intercontinental Title. At WrestleMania VIII in 1992, he won the title a second time, defeating one of the faces of WWE's golden era, Rowdy Roddy Piper. Before the year was through, Hart defeated the legendary Ric Flair to win his first of five WWE Championships. Advertisement Similarly, Uso captured the Intercontinental Title last year before going on to dethrone Gunther at WrestleMania 41 to win the World Championship. But unlike 'The Hitman,' Uso has faced criticism from some fans online, who argue that his in-ring skills don't measure up to past champions like Hart. However, focusing solely on in-ring technique misses what pro wrestling is truly about: storytelling, mic work, and emotional connection. In that regard, Uso is as good as anyone who came before him. 'There's just this magical connection between him, and when he's in that ocean of people that are loving what he does that becomes undeniable,' said Paul Levesque, WWE's Chief Content Officer, after WrestleMania. Levesque praised Uso's work not just for being a guy with a trendy catchphrase but for how he has grown as a performer. 'I think everybody saw something different in Jey over the last couple of years in that Bloodline story and the way he handled himself,' said Levesque of Uso's time as Reigns' understudy. Advertisement Still, to cement Uso as a legitimate champion, WWE needs to present his title reign with more authority. Since capturing the title, Uso has had three matches with questionable finishes. He was disqualified against Seth Rollins in what was Uso's first title defense. Two weeks later, 'Main Event' Jey beat Bron Breakker by DQ in a non-title match. Both matches were on Raw, and each was plagued by outside interference. At Saturday Night's Main Event, Uso defeated Paul, but again, the involvement of John Cena and Cody Rhodes took the luster off Uso's first successful title defense. Next, Uso will team with Cody Rhodes to face John Cena and Logan Paul at Money in the Bank on June 7. Two nights later, he'll face Gunther in a rematch on the June 9 episode of Raw. Another strong win over 'The Ring General' could cement Uso's credibility heading into SummerSlam—WWE's second-biggest event—where he's expected to play a major role. More from

Seth Rollins Teases a Rematch With Logan Paul
Last night on Monday Night Raw, The Visionary Seth Rollins had a conversation with Logan Paul backstage. Seth Rollins mentioned that Jey Uso will be taken out by Bron Breakker in the main event. He also claimed that this will make things easy for Logan Paul at Saturday Night's Main Event. The Visionary then stated that if the Maverick manages to dethrone Jey Uso, and survives Gunther on the June 9th episode of Raw, then he will be facing Seth Rollins next. Rollins hinted that the two could finally have their WrestleMania rematch and this time the top prize on the Red Brand will be on the line. Advertisement 'Hey, hey, I get it, I get it, I get it. Just hear me out man! You have a big match coming up this Saturday, World Heavyweight Championship shot for you. Jey Uso is going to get hurt tonight. He stuck his nose into my business where he didn't belong and he's going to pay for it. And whether he walks out of Greenville [or] he's wheeled out of here on a stretcher, come Saturday, he's not going to be a 100%. Which means the odds are in your favor. And if you can get past Gunther, I'll be waiting on the other side for it. You will know who to thank if you got that World Heavyweight Title on your shoulder. Maybe, we run it back from WrestleMania a couple of year ago, except this time, World Heavyweight Championship's on the line. Think about it,' Seth Rollins said. Saturday Night's Main Event big takeaways: WWE goes all-in on Logan Paul
Coming out of WrestleMania 41, it was difficult to imagine a compelling story Jey Uso could get involved in to build on the momentum from his World Heavyweight Championship win on the grand stage. The latest WWE Saturday Night's Main Event offered some clarity on where he's headed, gave insight into what's next for John Cena's quest to ruining wrestling, and provided space for Cody Rhodes' and Bronson Reed's big returns from the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. As we unpack all that went down, here are our five biggest takeaways from Saturday Night's Main Event. John Cena said it perfectly backstage to Jey Uso — what better way to ruin wrestling than helping a YouTuber win the world title? WWE has leaned incredibly hard into fans simply not liking Logan Paul, with merchandise and even an opportunity to smash a Paul doll with a steel chair at WrestleMania's WWE World. Now, the onscreen dynamic between Paul and Cena gives that very same YouTuber the proxied position of also ruining wrestling and it pairs him with arguably the biggest star of all time. The promotion is all-in on Paul, lining up the Cena partnership against a refreshed and returning Cody Rhodes alongside Uso. The fan support for Uso has only grown since WrestleMania 41 and this feels like the perfect spot for his continued ascension. It can't be said often enough how incredible R-Truth is. Always a bright spot in unexpected comedic bits, the veteran's long-running joke that John Cena was his childhood hero led to Truth coming out to Cena's music, full with a piece of paper over the first name and Ron written on it. Ron Cena had the crowd in his hands and teased an unexpected win, which was entirely plausible with the title not on the line. Ultimately, he took a pin and quickly became an afterthought in Cena's last run. We weren't necessarily looking for this match on the champ's retirement tour, but I'm thrilled it happened. The match did its job in continuing Cena's retirement tour with the ghosts of his past, first featuring Randy Orton and then Truth. Now, it appears Cena is ready to move on to the future of the business. Before he was injured, Bronson Reed appeared to be one of WWE's fastest-rising stars. Compared to the likes of Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow, Reed is a big man with unique athleticism. Featured prominently in WarGames, his ankle injury came at the worst possible time, leading to him missing his goal of featuring at WrestleMania. Saturday night, the big Aussie made his return in a statement moment, slamming CM Punk through the barricade and opening the door for Bronn Breakker to hit a spear and earn the pinfall victory over Punk and Sami Zayn. Seth Rollins now enlisting two guys with massive potential as his understudies is exactly the type of role Rollins should be playing these days. He's still at the top of his game, but elevating guys like Breakker and Reed feels like the necessary next steps before they're genuinely in the main event picture. The feud between Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre has been brutal and the two former world champions have put on a couple of excellent matches, including their vicious steel cage match on Saturday night. Every time they step foot in the ring, it becomes a question of what they'll do next to top their last outing. From a purely in-ring and wrestling standpoint, Priest and McIntyre have everything. But after seeing McIntyre take out vengeance against those who deserved it over the past few years, there just never has felt like there was enough to make this story compelling outside of both men being great in the ring. I'd love to see both sink their teeth into something different moving forward. Chelsea Green is making the most of any opportunities she's been given in her second stint with WWE. Green has shown the ability to flex into just about any position she's been in, and she has everything it takes to do even more. She can be a comedy act, has charisma, great in-ring ability, and is constantly innovating in ways that bring eyeballs to whatever she does. Green's abilities can occasionally be a curse, leading to a certain ceiling being established on what role talented individuals like herself play as others work their way up the roster. Hopefully after being surprisingly left off the WrestleMania card, she'll continue to be rewarded with even more opportunities in prime time. Her match Saturday with Zelina Vega, who's another talent hungry for more opportunities, was a great showcase for both women.

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event: Cody Rhodes returns to foil John Cena's evil plan
WWE Saturday Night's Main Event: Jey Uso defeated Logan Paul at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. The match, however, was anything but a straightforward or clean affair. John Cena interfered and tried to cost 'The Yeet Master' the contest. His plans, however, went for a toss when Cody Rhodes returned to WWE programming. Cody Rhodes saves the day Jey Uso put the World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Logan Paul in a match that worked reasonably well given the time constraints associated with the event. Prior to the showdown, John Cena confronted Rikishi's son and taunted him about potentially losing the title to 'The Maverick'. As such, it wasn't much of a surprise when 'The Franchise Player' got involved and tried to deliver a beatdown to Jey. CODY RHODES IS BACK#SNME Things were going as planned for Cena when Rhodes returned to WWE programming and nailed the veteran with a Cross Rhodes. This gave Jey Uso time to recover and hit a splash on Logan Paul for the win. Rhodes then announced that he will be teaming up with Jey Uso to take on Logan Paul and John Cena at Money in the Bank. In case you did not know, Cena beat Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 with help from Travis Scott to win the Undisputed Championship. Saturday Night's Main Event marked his first appearance on WWE programming since 'The Show of Shows'. Cena was at his heelish best against R-Truth Earlier in the night, Cena beat R-Truth after nailing him with a low blow. Post the win, he smashed him in the face with the Undisputed Championship, cementing his standing as a despicable heel.
