Tesla opens 'retro-futuristic' American diner
Elon Musk is branching Tesla out into a very new area as the company combines its electric cars with some classic American dining. The Tesla Diner has opened up in Hollywood, California and is described as a 'retro-futuristic diner and drive-in charging experience.' With 250 seats, the diner is split into two levels. The lower level features the main serving area, while the upper level, called the 'Skypad', allows diners to enjoy views of Los Angeles or enjoy another unique feature. The diner features an outdoor drive-in movie experience. Pic: Tesla Just outside, there are two 66ft LED megascreens for people to park their cars in front of and watch a movie. Tesla explained: 'Located in Hollywood, California, Tesla Diner is a Supercharging station, classic American diner and drive-in experience all wrapped up into one. 'With retro-futuristic design influences, this location offers Tesla and non-Tesla drivers alike with charging access along the historic Route 66 highway.' Kids meals are served in a small CyberTruck box. Pic: Tesla Open 24/7, the Tesla Diner is located on Santa Monica Boulevard – one of the main roads running through West Hollywood. The company continued: 'Solar canopies offer shade to the west charging lot, helping to reduce the site's carbon emissions by about 26.6 million pounds of CO2 per year—making charging even more sustainable.' It is the largest urban Supercharging station in the world, featuring 80 V4 Supercharger stalls. Members of the public at the opening of the retro-futuristic diner. The menu is split into six sections – Breakfast, Burgers & Sandwiches, Kids' menu, Sides, Desserts, and Beverages. However, the food will not come cheap. Breakfast options include a $12 Egg Sandwich, $11 Breakfast Tacos, or $15 Biscuits and Red Gravy, while the Burgers & Sandwiches include a $13.50 Tesla Burger, a $14 Tuna Melt, and a $13 Hot Dog. Kids can choose between a $9 Grilled Cheese, a $13 Kids Burger or a $13 Chicken Tenders Combo. They are all served in a small CyberTruck box. Tesla drivers can see what movie is playing next on the outside screens by using their vehicle's touchscreen. The diner has 250 seats for dining. Pic: Tesla Finally, there is a gift shop where those with some extra cash can buy exclusive merchandise. This includes a Tesla Bot action figure, a Hollywood Retro Diner T-shirt, gummy sweets and a Diner trucker hat. After officially opening its doors on Monday, the diner has received mixed reactions across social media. One user tweeted: 'These need to be everywhere', with another adding: 'This is the coolest place in LA ATM. Will definitely become a tourist attraction IMO.' It has received mixed reviews on social media. Pic: Tesla On the other hand, one person shared: 'I feel sorry for those who live in the neighboring building and have had all possibility of seeing anything outside their homes blocked, so that now all that remains for them is to open a window and be confronted by the back of the giant screen you installed right in front of their faces.' Another said: 'Tried to go with the family. The absence of plant based options in a city like Los Angeles is crazy. 'Even the avocado toast has eggs in the bread and the fries are cooked in beef. Had to pass unfortunately.'

Pentagon recalls 2K National Guard troops from Los Angeles
Immigration raid demonstrators protest at City Hall in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Photo by Jim Ruymen/UPI | License Photo July 16 (UPI) -- The Trump administration has recalled 2,000 National Guard troops from Los Angeles, where they were deployed by President Donald Trump last month to quell anti-raid protests and to protect immigration law enforcement arresting migrants. "Thanks to our troops who stepped up to answer the call, the lawlessness in Los Angeles is subsiding," chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement, The Hill and ABC News reported. "As such, the secretary has ordered the release of 2,000 California National Guardsmen (79th IBCT) from the federal protection." Trump, who campaigned on mass deportations while using derogatory rhetoric and misinformation, has been conducting a crackdown on immigration since returning to the White House. On June 6, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents began conducting raids in Los Angeles, sparking protests in the city. In response, Trump deployed some 2,000 California National Guardsmen, later increasing the number to more than 4,000, as well as hundreds of U.S. Marines, attracting the anger of local politicians. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat and a Trump critic, filed a lawsuit accusing the president of violating the Constitution by taking over the California National Guard, "which has needlessly escalated chaos and violence in the Los Angeles region," his office said in a statement. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, a Democrat, celebrated the Pentagon move on Tuesday as being a result of the city's protest against the deployment. "This happened because the people of Los Angeles stood united and stood strong. We organized peaceful protests, we came together at rallies, we took the Trump administration to court -- all of this led to today's retreat," she said in a statement. "My message today to Angelenos is clear -- I will never stop fighting for this city. We will not stop making our voices heard until this ends, not just here in LA, but throughout our country."
