Aberdeen looked 'sharp' in their first friendly, says Thelin

Aberdeen looked "sharp" in their first pre-season friendly, says manager Jimmy Thelin, as his side defeated League 1 Cove Rangers by two Palaversa and Nicky Devlin netted for the Dons on Saturday in their first outing since lifting the Scottish Cup in May. "It was good to have this opportunity to get everybody playing time," Thelin said."We're going to have some other games now ahead of us, and it's going to be more and more intense. "I think everybody's looking sharp. It's still early and we have things to improve on. The main thing today was how the team build up and how we helped and supported each other."We have been working on being more available on the pitch to create some relations. Their relations and the connections inside that we share the same picture on the pitch and I think the players help each other. "It's good to be back, and it's nice to see everyone. Hopefully we can create something good this season."

Dons boss Thelin wants to take his new-look squad to the next level ahead of guaranteed European league-phase football this term. He said: "We're delighted to welcome Adil to Aberdeen. "He's a technically gifted player who brings creativity and strong attacking instincts to our midfield. Aberdeen's Scottish Cup-winning heroes greeted by thousands on open top bus parade through the city after beating Celtic "At just 22, he has already played at a high level in France and in England. "Adil's experience, coupled with his desire to keep improving makes him a really exciting addition to the group, and we believe that this is a great environment for him to thrive." Meanwhile, Dons scout Erik Edman insists that they can lure top Scandinavian prospects by being a pathway to England. The ex-Spurs and Sweden star is also No 2 at Swedish minnows Hittarp. Edman said: "We want to be a bridge to England. "It's a selling point Aberdeen have, maybe. "As an example, we took Alexander Jensen last winter, who played for Brommapojkarna at right-back. "He has been very good with us. "The Scandinavian mentality is quite similar to the Scottish one, in terms of culture and the level. "It happens very rarely an Allsvenskan player goes straight to the Premier League. "The intermediate step is often very useful from a career perspective." The Dons have moved to sign the attacking midfielder from Sunderland for the season, and the Scottish Cup winners have the option within that agreement to buy him for £1.5 million before next summer. ‌ That is £500,000 more than their previous record signing, which was Paul Bernard for £1m back in 1995. ‌ The former French under-20 cap has been at Sunderland for the last two years and spent last season on loan at Portsmouth, where he played with fellow summer signing Kusini Yengi. Aouchiche came through the youth ranks of Paris St-Germain and he forced his way into their first-team and is still the youngest player to score form them in the Coupe de France. The 22-year-old them moved on to St Etienne and to Lorien. Speaking after the signing, boss Jimmy Thelin said: "We're delighted to welcome Adil to Aberdeen. His experience, coupled with his desire to keep improving makes him a really exciting addition to the group and we believe this is a great environment for him to thrive. "We look forward to working with him over the coming season and helping him make a real impact in a Dons shirt." ‌ Aberdeen are also trying to land fellow Frenchman Moussa Soumano. The Dons have made a second bid after their first £500,000 offer for the winger was turned down. Aberdeen are still waiting to see if they can land the 19-year-old, with Ajaccio currently fighting to remain in the French Second Division after they were relegated because of financial irregularities. ‌ The Dons have ramped things up this week with the signing of teenager Kjartan Mar Kjartansson from Stjarnan. The midfielder is ranked in the top 15 midfielders under the age of 18 in world football. It has been a busy summer for Jimmy Thelin. He has signed Yengi, Nick Suman, Nicolas Milanovic and Emmanuel Gyamfi as well as Aouchiche.
