Aldi confirms launch of new 'premium' home fragrance range for under £4
The collection offers three "timeless" scent combinations at budget-friendly prices. Looking to get a fresh-smelling home on a budget? Then Aldi is just about to launch a luxurious new home fragrance range - and prices start from under £4. The budget supermarket is no stranger to recreating high-value scents at lower prices, as it has previously taken on both Jo Malone and the White Company with a range of fragrance 'dupes'. And from Thursday, June 5, the discounter's beloved Specialbuys aisle will be home to the brand new Premium Home Fragrance collection that will boast a selection of candles, reed diffusers and room sprays from just £3.99. Said to offer "a selection of products to help keep any home smelling luxurious for less", the latest seasonal aromas will only be around for a limited time, so it's advised to bag them before they are gone. Included in the collection will be three "timeless" scent combinations that have been "carefully curated to evoke a sense of calm and refinement." There's bergamot & vanilla that has been described as "a warm and inviting blend that creates a soothing atmosphere for unwinding after a long day". The second fragrance combination, lemon & neroli, is said to be "a fresh and uplifting fusion, perfect for energising mornings or brightening any room." And lastly, mint & white tea has been described as "a crisp and refreshing aroma, ideal for creating a rejuvenating environment." All three of these scent profiles will be available as a 100ml room spray for just £3.99 a bottle, allowing homeware enthusiasts to give any room in the household a quick uplifting spritz during both the day and evening. However, those looking to fill an entire room with one of the scents might want to choose one of the collection's "insta-worthy" Premium Glass Candles (700g) that will be priced at just £9.99. With a classic, sleek glass jar, Aldi's candles are said to "ooze sophistication", bringing a chic vibe to any room in the home, while also offering a 100-hour burn time that will fill the entire space. Shoppers can get an even longer lasting fragrance with the Premium Glass Reed Diffusers that are said to provide a scent that will last up to 28 weeks, costing just £7.99 for a 400ml. Meanwhile, Emma South, fragrance and lifestyle expert at Jo Malone London, shares that musk was 'originally sourced from animals, it's now entirely replaced by plant extracts or synthetic recreations.' 'Consequently, 'musk' is elusive to pin down, there are many interpretations ranging from airy with hints of powder to deep, animalic and amber-like,' she adds. Emma also shares that 'each musk has its own nuance' and that it has the ability to 'enhance the scent trail.' What kind of notes best complement musk? 'Musk pairs well with a wide range of floral and powdery notes, which blend seamlessly to enhance each other,' shares Thibaud. 'At Maison Crivelli, we often use musks as a drydown, combined with vanilla and leather. They allow us to highlight textures and prolong the trail of the perfume,' he explains. 'You'll find it in the background of some of our best-sellers such as Hibiscus Mahajad, Oud Maracuja and Tubéreuse Astrale, where it brings roundness, elegance, and a tactile sensuality that anchors the composition while amplifying its emotional impact,' Thibaud says. According to Emma, musk pairs effortlessly with 'delicate, dewy florals', such as Jo Malone London's Wild Bluebell cologne. 'Whilst deeper, magnetic musks can give even more gravitas to incense notes or create the perfect foil for the iridescence of citrus,' she adds. How to best layer musky perfumes Emma suggests 'layering a minimal, airy musky scent with a soft citrus such as bergamot.' 'Alternatively, use musk to illuminate rich balmy white florals and let them take flight, this makes a mesmerizing way to wear musk into the evening,' she explains. Thibaud agrees: 'I would pair musks with fresh notes such as citrus or peony, or with soft powdery notes like violet or iris. These combinations create contrast and reveal new dimensions of both the musk and the supporting notes.' What are the challenges of creating a musky scent? 'As with any formula, true artistry lies in the balance of ingredients and musk can make or break a fragrance,' shares Emma. 'I have heard perfumers refer to musks as the triangles of the orchestra (if a bright and shimmering musk) or the garlic in cuisine (if rich and animalic),' she says. 'Musk requires a high level of technical skill to be handled well. One challenge is to avoid a flat or overly linear structure, especially since musks are often very diffusive yet subtle,' explains Thibaud. 'The goal is to blend them elegantly so they feel both complex and soft, with long-lasting qualities that stay close to the skin without losing their character,' he says.

Shopping writer Lauren has been asked multiple times if she is donning false eyelashes when wearing this bestselling formula As a beauty writer, I test new products almost daily - from buzzy TikTok launches to under-the-radar gems. But like many people, I have my beauty staples I rarely stray from: MAC's mauve pink Mehr lipstick, Jo Malone's Pomegranate Noir perfume and, up until recently, Estée Lauder's Double Wear Lengthening Mascara. That was until My Mascara by Sculpted by Aimee landed on my desk. One coat later, and I haven't picked up Double Wear since, meaning I've said goodbye to a decade of regular use. Retailing for a very reasonable £18 on the brand's website and at Boots, Sculpted by Aimee's ultra-black mascara has completely won me over. The curved wand is a game-changer - it hugs the lash line perfectly, coating each individual lash and leaving them looking fuller, lifted, and longer. It's also impressive long-wearing. I can apply it in the morning and trust that it'll stay put without smudging until I take it off, which, admittedly, takes a little effort. Get the look £18 Sculpted by Aimee Buy Now on Sculpted by Aimee Product Description I have to use a couple of face wipes or a proper eye makeup remover to get the last trace off, so it's worth considering. But honestly, it's a small price to pay for lashes that look this good. If you'd prefer an easier removal process, there are alternative options available. Benefit's Badgal Bang! is great for lifting lashes, but it's also easy to apply and remove. Likewise, the MACStack Mascara Mega Brush is easy to remove with a single face wipe. Back to Sculpted by Aimee, I'm not the only one who is impressed. Clinical testers back me up, with 92% of testers saying their lashes looked more voluminous. Meanwhile, 95% agreed lashes looked longer. My only slight gripe, aside from it being a little difficult to remove, is that it can appear slightly clumpy on the first swipe. But with a couple more strokes, it evens out beautifully, separating the lashes and building up that full, fluttery effect without going spidery. All in all, I didn't expect to find a new mascara after more than a decade, but here we are. Sorry, Estée - I've got a new favourite.
