I ensure a great employee experience for excellent service delivery. READ MORE: We live in the best place in Northern Ireland and here's why we love it READ MORE: Belfast commercial real estate opportunities showcased at global event What are the three main attributes required for your job? The ability to see the bigger picture for impactful support, knowing when to make the right decisions for our organisation and people, and the ability to influence both senior team and staff for mutual understanding. How did you get to your current position? My HR career began with gaining experiences in various industry sectors, aiming to join a 'big four' consultancy firm, which I did – PwC. From there, I decided to work towards a purpose, previously supporting the tourism growth agenda at Tourism NI with a fantastic team that delivered exceptionally. 'Trade-offs and choices': Finance Minister on $12.8b pay equity saving
The Government's sweeping changes to the pay equity scheme have provided a massive infusion into Budget 2025, to the tune of $12.8 billion over the next four years. Finance Minister Nicola Willis said "savings" had been made as a result and that the regime first launched under the previous government had become unwieldy. 'Significant Budget savings have resulted from fixing Labour's flawed pay-equity regime and removing an assumption that the Government would fully fund potential settlements involving non-Government employers," she said. 'Taken together, these changes have increased the funding available for Budget 2025 by $11 billion operating over the forecast period and an additional $1.8 billion allocated for capital investment. "This funding has been redirected to support investments in frontline health, education and other government services. "The Government has kept funding in contingency to settle future pay equity claims that we anticipate will be raised by government employees. "Other potential pay equity costs will be considered as part of the normal Budget process. Future pay-equity settlements will only be awarded where pay discrepancies are proven to be the result of sex-based discrimination." John Campbell and Nicola Willis clash over govt payments, pay equity - watch on TVNZ+ Willis refused to release the contingency figures involved, saying withholding them was consistent with Treasury advice because the information was commercially sensitive. The Opposition seized on the issue immediately after the release of the Budget. Labour leader Chris Hipkins said: "The Government has taken $11 billion that should be lifting women's pay and used it to make its Budget add up." Hipkins has been hammering the Government over the changes in the past several weeks, which were passed under urgency and raised the threshold to make a claim. Asked during a media conference whether ACT leader David Seymour was correct in saying the changes "saved the Budget", she said there were "trade-offs and choices". "Without this reform, we would not be able, in this Budget to be putting the extra money into health, to be putting extra money into learning support, to be putting in more resources for our police," the Finance Minister said. "There are trade-offs and there are choices. I stand by the fact that women and women in this economy are going to be getting pay rises under this Government into the future". But Public Service Association national secretary Fleur Fitzsimons said following Willis' announcement that the $12.8 billion figure "saved" was a betrayal to workers. "This is a Budget paid for by taking money from care and support workers — $60 million a week — taken from library assistants, social workers and others who had expected pay equity settlements that would see them be paid what they are worth," she said. "This is the wage theft Budget. "The Government promised to tackle the cost of living — how does taking billions of dollars from the pay of so many underpaid women help them balance their own budgets? It's just another broken promise, and Kiwi women are paying for this. "We call on the Government to do what's fair — sit down with workers, unions, employers and pay equity experts in a proper select committee process and come up with a new framework that can work better for all. This is how a democracy is supposed to operate."

Bowling allrounder Roston Chase named the new West Indies test captain
ST. JOHN'S, Antigua (AP) — Allrounder Roston Chase was named the West Indies test captain on Friday even though he hasn't played a test in more than two years. The 33-year-old Chase replaces 32-year-old Kraigg Brathwaite, who resigned from the job in March after three years. Chase will lead West Indies in three home tests against Australia in June and July. The first test in Bridgetown on Chase's home island of Barbados will also be his 50th since his test debut in 2016. The 1.96-meter (6-foot-5) off-spinner has taken 85 wickets at 46, and as a middle-order bat has scored more than 2,200 runs at 26, including five hundreds. His best bowl was 8-60 against England in the second innings of a 381-run win in 2019 at his Bridgetown home ground. Chase was shortlisted for the captaincy with John Campbell, Tevin Imlach, Joshua Da Silva, Justin Greaves and Jomel Warrican. Shai Hope, the one-day and Twenty20 captain, declined to be considered. West Indies officials said they conducted detailed assessments of tactical approach, leadership style, communication skills and behavior before choosing Chase. 'Our new captain has earned the respect of his peers, understands the responsibility that comes with the role, and has shown the leadership qualities we need to take this team forward,' coach Daren Sammy said in a statement. 'I urge fans across the region to rally behind him — we're building something special.' ___ AP cricket:

The Kroger Company clears first hurdle for possible Gateway Commons location
The Kroger Company came one step closer to building in Gateway Commons Thursday, when the Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission (OMPC) approved a zoning change application submitted by Senior Green, LLC at the commission's monthly meeting. According to application, Senior Green owns 23.468 acres at 2224 Pleasant Valley Road and 3433 Hayden Road. The firm sought to re-zone the property from an Urban Agriculture, Single-Family Residential, Multi-Family Residential and General Business zoned to B-4 General Business. OMPC senior planning staff member Trey Pedley said that planning commission staff recommended approval of the zoning change because a traffic impact study on the property raised no concerns about overburdened roadways or area urban services. The zoning change would comply with the city's current strategic plan and that the expansion of business in the area is just 'logical business expansion,' Pedley said. John Campbell, a project manager with Heritage Engineering, a consultant for The Kroger Company, attended the meeting to answer any questions from commission members or members of the community regarding the application filed by Senior Green. 'We have no concerns with the planning committee's staff recommendation,' said Campbell. Campbell also expressed transparency, stating that his firm was hired as a consultant on the project by The Kroger Company because the retail chain grocery store is 'likely' to build in the Gateway Commons area. 'It's one of the most likely and possible locations for a new Kroger store,' Campbell said. Daviess County resident Charles Evans spoke to the commission about reservations regarding the application, citing a lawsuit filed against Gulfstream Enterprises by former property owners claiming that they sold the land to Gulfstream for a sum 'well below its actual value', according to an article published by the Messenger-Inquirer in February 2024. The lawsuit alleges that Gulfstream then sold the property in question to Daviess County Public Schools for 'a substantially higher amount.' 'I'd like the commissioners to consider that this property could face a lawsuit as well,' Evans said. Evans also brought up a situation of concern that occurred during the construction of the new Daviess County Middle School on Fairview Drive. Evans alleged that construction crews encountered a family cemetery during the building process and had to re-draft building plans, moving the football field to a new location. 'How do we know that builders aren't going to come across an old slave burial ground?' Evans asked. 'That property was in my family and I know that they owned slaves back in the day and there could be a slave graveyard somewhere.' Campbell responded to the concerns from Evans, stating that he wasn't aware of any potential for lawsuits over the land, but he could check with the property owners for a response if necessary. The concerns regarding the possible slave burial ground weren't specifically addressed, but planning commission executive director Brian Howard said that the possibility wouldn't dictate the commission's decision on Senior Green's zoning application. Commissioner Bill Wiekel provided a motion to approve the application with a second provided by commissioner Manuel Ball. The application motion was then voted on by the full panel of commissioners where it was ultimately unanimously approved.
