Hulk Hogan, iconic pro wrestling star, dead at 71
Hulk Hogan, who helped lead professional wrestling's rise in popularity in the 1980s and beyond, has died, Florida police and World Wrestling Entertainment said Thursday. He was 71. "WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away," the organization said in a statement. "One of pop culture's most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans. Born Terry Bollea, Hogan began wrestling in the mid-1970s. His popularity soared in 1984 after he defeated the Iron Sheik to win the heavyweight championship of what was then called the World Wrestling Federation. He continued to feature as star for the organization, including at WrestleMania appearances in Toronto in 1990 and 2002. Though mainly cast as a patriotic hero, he took a turn as a villain during a 1990s stint with the rival National Wrestling Alliance. Paving the way for current stars Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson and John Cena, Hogan also appeared on screen in fictional roles in Rocky III, Suburban Commando and Mr. Nanny. From 2005-07, he joined the reality television trend with Hogan Knows Best, starring his then-wife and two children. In a significant legal battle, he reached a $31 million US settlement with Gawker in 2016 after the online publication released a video clip of Hogan and a woman in bed. According to the police statement, fire and police in Clearwater, Fla., responded to a medical call at 9:51 a.m. ET., with the nature of call being cardiac arrest.

Stunning WWE legend Nikki Bella reveals she's joined celebrity dating app as it ‘gets lonely in hotel rooms'
WWE legend Nikki Bella revealed she has joined a celebrity dating app after her recent divorce. However, Bella, 41, insists she is not looking for anything serious at the moment as she is solely focused on her son Matteo, 4. The WWE Hall of Famer came back from retirement last month, which means she is now constantly on the road touring the US for RAW, SmackDown and house shows. The two-time women's champion admitted it gets lonely when she spends the night in hotel rooms. That is why the ex-Divas Champion joined Raya, but she is only interested in texting to kill the time. Bella told Cody Rhodes in What Do You Wanna Talk About: "Since I've been back on the road… it kind of gets lonely in hotel rooms and not like I want to be on Tinder, but I think it would just be fun to text people. 'I don't want anything now. Like, I don't want anything serious for years, because I don't want anything to interfere with my son and I. 'And I don't want my son to meet anyone. I just want him to have his mom and his dad, and that's it. I think that's healthy for him right now. 'So I don't want anything like that to happen for like, years, and I don't even want to give my energy to someone. "Like, I'm raising him, and that's all I want to give my energy and time to. I think it would just be fun to text people." Bella was in a six-year relationship with WWE legend John Cena, whom she got engaged to at WrestleMania 33 in 2017. However, the former celebrity couple never got married as they broke up a year later. Bill Simmons' awkward reaction to Nikki Bella's sexy dancing goes viral at WWE RAW The wrestler then married her former Dancing with the Stars partner Artem Chigvintsev in 2022, two years after she gave birth to their child. The pair divorced in 2024 after Chigvintsev was arrested for felony corporal injury to spouse or cohabitant for allegedly attacking his then wife. Rhodes asked Bella what type of man she would like to date when she's ready for something serious. She responded: "I have always loved, like a businessman, but that has swag. 'You need to have swag… I don't like just straight up business. There needs to be a cool vibe.'

‘I Hate It!': James Gunn Reacts to Peacemaker Cameos in Black Adam & Shazam 2
James Gunn has shared his reaction to the DCEU Peacemaker cameos and what they mean going forward for the DCU. Peacemaker Season 1 was technically part of the DCEU, which ended with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Peter Safran and Gunn have since launched a new shared DC universe, the DCU, which so far includes Creature Commandos and Superman. While the DCU is a new continuity separate from the DCEU, Peacemaker Season 2, which arrives next month, will be part of the DCU. Gunn has previously stated that the new season will address the continuity change. Peacemaker, however, wasn't just confined to the one season in the DCEU; John Cena 's character was part of The Suicide Squad, which was directed by Gunn, while Jennifer Holland 's Emilia Harcourt appeared in Black Adam. She and Steve Agee 's John Economos then return in a mid-credits scene featured in 2023's Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Rizwan Manji, meanwhile, plays Jamil in Peacemaker Season 1 and then shows up as an unnamed character in Fury of the Gods. Gunn has previously said that he thinks of the Shazam! character as 'Jamil's more successful brother.' What did James Gunn say about Peacemaker and the DCEU? Speaking with Den of Geek, Gunn confirmed that Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods are not part of the DCU despite the Peacemaker characters' appearances. He commented, 'They're not canon! I hate it!' Regarding how Peacemaker Season 2 handles the DCEU and DCU continuities, Gunn said, 'There are certain things from the old universe that we refer to in Peacemaker season 2, but until then, they're not canon. Almost everything from season 1 is canon, but season 2 will explain everything that is or is not canon.' Peacemaker Season 2 premieres on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. The season will have eight episodes. The first season, meanwhile, along with Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, are both available to watch on the streaming platform at this time.

Adventures in Streaming: When the president becomes an action figure
In 1997, Harrison Ford uttered that line to Russian terrorist Gary Oldman in the Wolfgang Peterson movie Air Force One (streaming on Paramount+). It didn't seem a culturally pivotal moment at the time, but it apparently opened some sort of pipeline wherein U.S. presidents would become action heroes in films as diverse as Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and Olympus Has Fallen. Article content Article content Prime Video is currently streaming two different variations of the formula (which, let's face it, was created in a Hollywood lab utilizing Die Hard as the agar in the petri dish). Article content Heads of State stars John Cena as Will Derringer, a newly elected American president, leaping into the White House after a career as a movie action hero. (One can only feel nostalgia toward the 2006 satire Idiocracy which portrayed that notion as ridiculously far-fetched.) Article content His feel-good presidency goes wrong when a vengeful Russian terrorist (Paddy Considine), launches an assault on an Air Force One mission to Europe for a NATO conference, with the British Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba), caught up in the crossfire. Clarke is ex-military and, once the two leaders parachute to safety, he is given to mocking Derringer's pretend fighting experience. If their spark-striking conflict seems familiar, Cena and Elba shared an even more deadly enmity in The Suicide Squad. Article content The film is helmed by Ilya Naishuller, the Russian director who made Hardcore Henry and the Bob Odenkirk actionfest Nobody. Naishuller is skilled at live-action cartoons, but when the stakes are raised, that makes for some tonal needle scratches as we go from mass murder on Air Force One to Cena being smacked in the face with sheep udders as he and Elba are smuggled out of Belarus on a livestock truck. Waiting in the wings to confuse things even further is Priyanka Chopra Jonas, in John Wick mode, playing Noelle, Sam's love interest and saviour. Article content With its relentless action beats, and it's road-movie squabbling, it's mostly silly, disposable stuff. But you have to admit, it's certainly an interesting time for a Russian filmmaker to make an American action movie with a Russian villain in cahoots with a would-be American demagogue plotting to destroy the NATO alliance. Article content G20 stars another Suicide Squad vet Viola Davis as American president Danielle Sutton, obliged to kick butt when the titular conference, taking place in South Africa, is hijacked by security forces led by a crazed Australian mercenary played by Anthony Starr, who has honed his villain act on the superhero series The Boys. At least G20 has a consistent tone, attuned to Viola Davis's gravitas. Sure, many people are killed. But at least Danielle and her estranged teenage daughter (Marsai Martin), will get closer in the process.

James Gunn Says He "Hates" Those PEACEMAKER Cameos in BLACK ADAM and SHAZAM 2, Promises Clarity in Season 2 — GeekTyrant
James Gunn continues to draw a line between the old DCEU and his new DCU, but the situation has been anything but simple. The filmmaker admits that certain cameos and references from the past era have only made things more confusing, and he's not thrilled about it. In a recent interview with Den of Geek, Gunn promised that Peacemaker Season 2 will finally sort out the messy continuity fans have been scratching their heads over. Gunn explained: 'There are certain things from the old universe that we refer to in Peacemaker season 2, but until then, they're not canon. Almost everything from season 1 is canon, but season 2 will explain everything that is or is not canon.' That means the weird limbo Peacemaker currently exists in, caught between two cinematic universes, will finally be addressed. For now, though, Gunn has made it clear what's out: those cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Black Adam . 'They're not canon! I hate it!' Gunn said, adding that he previously had 'no idea' why characters like Harcourt and Economos were recruiting for the Justice Society in those films. It's a fair point. Right now, remnants of the DCEU keep bleeding into the reboot, and for fans hoping for a clean slate, the result is pure chaos. Still, Gunn is confident that Season 2 of Peacemaker will bring order to the madness. The upcoming episodes will explore John Cena's unhinged hero as he officially crosses into the DCU, and based on the latest trailer, things are going to get wild. Gunn confirmed that the new season will dive deep into the concept of 'pocket universes,' an idea first introduced in his upcoming Superman film. When asked about the pocket universes, Gunn replied: 'The whole [second] season of Peacemaker revolves around that. Yes, absolutely it is. You'll see in Peacemaker [season 2], too… It's just Lex's version is much jankier than the one in Peacemaker . The one in Peacemaker works better. What the whole season of Peacemaker revolves around is that.' Gunn wants fans to know this isn't a typical multiverse mashup like Spider-Man: No Way Home . He described his approach as something more intimate: 'I think of Peacemaker as more of a high-concept story about one other world. It's more akin to Philip Roth's [1996 novel] The Counterlife than it is to the third Spider-Man movie… I love that movie, but it isn't about that. 'It isn't Deadpool & Wolverine . It's really a very simple, simple story about [Chris Smith's] relationship to this one other world.' While Gunn is keeping big-picture DCU details under wraps, he recently teased that there's a central narrative thread connecting these projects, something nobody has guessed yet. 'It's not what anyone thinks. It's not what anyone would guess. But I think if people watch the next season of Peacemaker , they'll see where a lot of these things are going, and have a little bit more of a sense of maybe what can happen.' Peacemaker Season 2 hits HBO on August 21, and if Gunn is to be believed, this is where all the confusion finally gets sorted out.
