Entrepreneur opens new reformer Pilates studio in Aberdeen

Aberdeen entrepreneur Jonathan Harper has jumped headfirst into the global wellness wave, investing £60,000 to transform his west end fitness space into a high-end reformer Pilates studio. StudioBe, based at 13 Carden Place, has relaunched with a luxury fit-out and mission to bring reformer Pilates, hot yoga, barre classes and more to the city. Just two days in, the studio had already notched up over 500 class bookings and a host of influencer visits. The launch comes as interest in reformer Pilates continues to surge nationally, fuelled by celebrity endorsements from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Margot Robbie. With six state-of-the-art reformers, two mat studios, barre classes and new heaters going in for hot yoga, StudioBe has hit the ground running and is now working to keep up with demand. 'We've gone from old-school PT and heavy lifting to something completely different – calm, holistic, wellness-led,' says Jonathan. 'Such is the power of these reformers and all this mat Pilates now, we've got to the point where it is such a hype and such a big vibe, that everyone's talking about it. 'We thought 'let's embrace it' and that's what we're doing'.' Jonathan says there are currently seven full-time trainers working at StudioBe, with plans to buy more reformer machines to meet growing interest. 'Everything has been fully booked,' he adds. 'We have had all the influencers round and it has gone crazy on socials.' While the fit-out is high-end, Jonathan says prices remain competitive, with an inclusive, community feel central to the vision. 'We want to be a destination – a one-stop wellness hub,' he adds. 'You can come for Pilates and then head upstairs to Pink Lily for hair, make-up or beauty treatments. It's about making wellness easy and accessible. Pilates and a pamper.' StudioBe is also keen to team up with neighbouring west end businesses to offer bespoke classes for the workers on its doorstep. 'That's our target for the next few months, connecting with businesses nearby,' says Jonathan. 'There are real benefits for companies and from an employee point of view it creates a sense of belonging and camaraderie.' And the target audience for reformer Pilates? 'Younger women are obsessed with it, but I'm a real advocate for us men getting into it as well,' he adds. 'It's great for golfers, swimmers, anyone wanting to improve their core. We are getting a lot of early enquiries from guys.' Business-wise, Jonathan has big ambitions beyond the Carden Place studio, with discussions already under way on expanding into clothing and equipment. Jonathan, who also works in commercial property, said the shift to wellness was not just about capitalising on a trend. He said it is part of a broader rethink on how former office space in Aberdeen could be repurposed – especially in light of the downturn in oil and gas. 'It's about sweating your assets,' says Jonathan, who owns the building and masterminded the transformation. 'There are so many great spaces and people need to be creative. 'We have great community and it's a good city to do business in. 'I'm committed. I'm born and bred in Aberdeen and we have to have a bit of self-belief.'

We Mourn KING OF THE HILL Actor Jonathan Joss' Death & Share His Husband's Heartbreaking Words

King of the Hill did not resemble the other shows I watched when I was growing up. I snuck it by my mom and always felt mildly like I was doing something I shouldn't be doing when I flipped it onto my TV. And still, something about it drew me in. And, judging by the excitement of our readers about the upcoming King of the Hill revival, many fellow nerds feel this way as well. And so, with a sad heart, I learned that Jonathan Joss, the voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill and its revival, had been killed in a fatal shooting. But alas, as more details of Jonathan Joss' death came out, the circumstances only became more heartbreaking and more harrowing. After news of his death broke, Jonathan Joss' husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales shared a vulnerable and aching statement, recounting that Joss' shooting, and here we must say, allegedly, was a hate crime. Below, we share Tristan Kern de Gonzales' statement in full, but wanted to add a note of caution for our readers that these words paint very painful images, and those who feel sensitive toward such things, should take proceed carefully. Statement from Tristan Kern de Gonzales Husband of Jonathan Joss My husband Jonathan Joss and I were involved in a shooting while checking the mail at the site of our former home. That home was burned down after over two years of threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set it on fire. We reported these threats to law enforcement multiple times and nothing was done. Throughout that time we were harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship. Much of the harassment was openly homophobic. When we returned to the site to check our mail we discovered the skull of one of our dogs and its harness placed in clear view. This caused both of us severe emotional distress. We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw. While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. He then raised a gun from his lap and fired. Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life. Jonathan is my husband. He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get. We were newlyweds. We picked Valentines Day. We were in the process of looking for a trailer and planning our future. He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other. I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved. To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family. My focus now is on protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together. If your concern is how someone coped with trauma or how loudly they speak when recounting injustice and being ignored by authorities then you never truly cared about my husband. Jonathan saved my life. I will carry that forward. I will protect what he built. Tristan Kern de Gonzales It's hard to describe the unbelievable sadness that these words evoke. The incredibly cruel act described above is hard to reckon with. And we admire Tristan Kern de Gonzales for his openness in discussing Jonathan Joss' death and the circumstances surrounding it. There is simply no sense in what happened to this loving couple, seemingly just for openly celebrating their love and being proud of their identities. But Kern de Gonzales asked primarily for one thing in the wake of this alleged hate crime: for us to remember Jonathan's legacy and honor his life, to protect what he built. On King of the Hill, Jonathan Joss gave life to a sadly rare Native American character, honoring his own legacy as a man of Comanche and Apache descent. He appeared in TV movies and shows including Walker, Texas Ranger, Friday Night Lights, The League, Ray Donovan, In Plain Sight, and Parks & Recreation. We will also get to hear his voice one more time when the King of the Hill revival graces our screens. Mike Judge, Greg Daniels, and Saladin Patterson said in a statement, 'Jonathan Joss brought King of the Hill's 'John Redcorn' to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival. 'His voice will be missed at King of the Hill, and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan's friends and family.' In the end, it is critical that we hold both the truth of the circumstances surrounding Jonathan Joss' death and the beautiful legacy of his life in our thoughts. Rest in peace, Jonathan Joss.

Plaque unveiled to renowned Dublin artist who died in motorbike crash

The late Jonathan Wade remembered at ceremony at his former home in Walkinstown Today at 07:53 A plaque has been unveiled commemorating the life of renowned Irish artist Jonathan Wade at his home in the Dublin suburb of Walkinstown. Specialising in painting industrial and urban landscapes, Jonathan has been described as one of Ireland's finest visual artists of the last century. He was born in Thomas Street in 1941, and his family moved to 2 Walkinstown Avenue in 1952. It was while living here in his teenage years that he developed his love of painting, and produced many of his earliest works. His first solo exhibition was held in Fergus O'Farrell studios in 1966, followed by the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1968. His largest and most important solo exhibition was held in the Project Arts Centre in Abbey Street in 1970, with 37 paintings on show. He had spent a considerable amount of time in Dublin's dockyards around this time, influencing his output and leading to the creation of a series of paintings depicting landscapes of rusted metal junk. Jonathan is represented today in the collections of The Hugh Lane Gallery and The Arts Council. His work was profoundly shaped by his left-wing political beliefs, and sought to portray a sense of overwhelming industrial catastrophe by painting images of decaying and rusted buildings and machinery. He tragically died in a motorcycle accident in January 1973, following a visit to see his mother, who lived in Walkinstown. Speaking at the plaque unveiling ceremony, local councillor Ray Cunningham said: 'I am honoured to be here on a day when such an influential figure in our cultural heritage is being recognised. 'As public representatives and communities, our focus has moved since Jonathan Wade's time, we are better at improving our cityscapes and protecting our environment. 'It is also important that we protect the heritage of the watcher, the man whose images of twisted metal and broken concrete wilderness marked out his reputation as one of the great visual artists of the last century. 'If there are to be doers, there must be see-ers. The eye of the artist is a treasure and a resource that our city should cherish and celebrate. That is what we have a valuable opportunity to do today.' The plaque was unveiled by the Dublin City Council Commemorations and Naming Committee, a group which facilitates the commemoration of people, events and organisations that have made a unique and significant contribution to Dublin.

Nick Offerman says he and ‘Parks and Recreation' cast ‘heartbroken' over shooting death of Jonathan Joss

Nick Offerman has spoken out about the shooting death of his 'Parks and Recreation' costar, actor Jonathan Joss. 'The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken,' Offerman said in a statement to People. 'Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.' CNN has reached out to reps for Offerman for additional comment. On 'Parks and Recreation,' Joss played the tribal elder of the Wamapoke Native American tribe and owner of the Wamapoke Casino. He was fatally shot near his homeover the weekend, according to police in San Antonio, Texas. Police were dispatched Sunday to a location on Dorsey Drive in San Antonio, Texas, for a reported shooting in progress, where officers found Joss, 59, 'near the roadway of the location' and 'attempted life saving measures,' authorities said. The actor was pronounced dead by emergency service responders. A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder and an investigation is ongoing, police said. Joss' husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales confirmed his death in a text message to the Associated Press. He said he and Joss were approached and threatened by a man with a gun while checking the mail at Joss' home, which in January was damaged by a fire that also killed their three dogs. 'Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. We were standing side by side. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life,' de Gonzales said. He and Joss, who married in February, had previously faced 'openly homophobic' harassment, de Gonzales said. The person who killed Joss yelled 'violent homophobic slurs' before opening fire, he added. 'He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other,' de Gonzales said. 'Despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss's murder was related to his sexual orientation,' San Antonio police said in a statement posted to social media on Monday night. Beyond his work on 'Parks and Recreation,' Joss voiced the character of John Redcorn on 'King of the Hill.' Some of his other credits include appearances in 'Ray Donovan,' 'Tulsa King' and the 2016 film 'The Magnificent Seven.'
