Notre Dame 2026 running back commit Jonaz Walton has shut his recruitment down

Notre Dame 2026 running back commit Jonaz Walton has shut his recruitment down Notre Dame football has multiple prospects on campus this weekend for official visits, both committed to the Irish and uncommitted. One of the verbals currently in South Bend is running back Jonaz Walton. The 5-foot, 10-inch and 205-pounder committed to Notre Dame just over a month ago, and was still talking with others schools. That won't be the case going forward, as On3's Mike Singer is reporting that Walton has shut his recruitment down and won't speak with other schools. Walton went on the say that 'there's no doubt in my mind about my decision, and I'm not communicating with any schools.' This is great news for Notre Dame, as one of its goals with the current commits was to make sure they weren't wavering. It looks like it was a mission accomplished for the Irish with Walton this weekend, as he becomes one of many who have locked themselves into being part of Notre Dame's 2026 recruiting class.

Notre Dame recruiting class ranks highly in the eyes of this network

Notre Dame's 2026 recruiting class is now ranked No. 2 by ESPN. The Fighting Irish were previously No. 3. That's because the Fighting Irish secured the services of running back Jonaz Walton after getting Javian Osborne. So the four-letter network gave Notre Dame a boost since the Irish have two of ESPN's top 300 running backs. Advertisement ESPN updates its rankings of the Top 25 every so often -- the last update was May 14 -- and in addition to the Irish moving up, the Illinois Fighting Illini are the big surprise, as they jump 10 spots to No. 10. Texas jumps into the ranking and Ole Miss falls out. The Irish sit behind long-time rival USC in the rankings, and the top five is rounded out by Ohio State, Penn State and Clemson. New Notre Dame football commit Jonaz Walton clears air about scheduled official visits

New Notre Dame football commit Jonaz Walton clears air about scheduled official visits It has become very common for a recruit to commit to a school even though he's already scheduled official visits in the future, which is exactly the case for Notre Dame football's newest 2026 verbal, running back Jonaz Walton. While he did commit to the Irish on Wednesday, he had multiple official visits still on the books. However, on Thursday morning, Walton went to social media to announce that he will not be taking those visits, in essence locking in his commitment to Notre Dame. He had planned on taking visits to see Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida, but as of right now, those won't be happening. This is clearly great news for the Irish, as the potential for him to flip would have been there if those trips ultimately were taken. As of right now, you can pretty much lock Walton in the Notre Dame 2026 recruiting class.
