Last Updated: Joon Park turns 56. From leading g.o.d to Hollywood and YouTube, explore the K-pop icon's early life, career journey, and legacy in the world of Korean entertainment. Joon Park Hyung, aka Joon Park, is a South Korea-born American singer and actor. With a career spanning over two decades, he is best known for his stint as the leader and rapper of the Korean pop group g.o.d (Groove Over Dose), which was popular back in the 2000s. On the occasion of his 56th birthday today, let's have a look at his early life, journey in the industry, career highlights and legacy in K-pop. Joon Park: Early and Personal Life Joon Park was born on July 20, 1969, in Seoul, South Korea. Shortly after his birth, his family, including his parents and two siblings, moved to the US. He was raised in Los Angeles. After completing his schooling in California, he enrolled at California State University, Long Beach, and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. A year later, he got married to her in a private ceremony in Seoul. The couple welcomed their daughter in 2017. Joon Park: Journey In The Industry In 1997, Joon Park moved back to South Korea to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He joined an agency and began recruiting members for a group that would create music taking influences from both Korea and the West. The group faced numerous hurdles prior to their debut, including the country's economic crisis in 1997. The group, initially a mixed-gender group named GOT7, roped in Park Jin Young, also known as JYP, as their mentor and producer. Following the departure of one of the members, the five-membered group debuted as g.o.d. In 1999. They released their debut album, titled Chapter 1, in January of that year. The group first appeared on television performing the track To Mother, partly based on Joon's childhood, where he was raised by his widowed mother. Just two years after their debut, the group was on the verge of disbanding due to a dating scandal involving Park Joon. After much backlash, their agency decided otherwise. In 2005, Joon left the group and decided to pursue a career in acting in the US. The boy band did not disband, but announced an indefinite break. He made his acting debut in Hollywood with a cameo in the 2008 sports drama Speed Racer. Joon Park has appeared in several K-dramas and has been featured on various Korean reality TV shows. In 2014, he returned to South Korea for g.o.d's 15th anniversary. He re-signed with the agency SidusHQ. They released the album, Chapter 8, after a nearly decade-long hiatus. Joon Park: Career Highlights Joon Park served as the leader of the K-pop group g.o.d. He has acted in the 2009 film Dragonball Evolution, directed by James Wong. The actor and singer has been a cast member in reality shows like Roommate, TMI News, and I Can See Your Voice, among others. He has also hosted shows like Other World Used Cars-Gear GODs, and Live Well, Fun Equipment. Joon Park has a YouTube channel named Wassup Man. Joon Park: Legacy In K-Pop Joon Park, along with his group g.o.d, is considered one of the pioneers of K-pop. Back in the early 2000s, they were South Korea's bestselling artists. Comprising Joon Park, Danny Ahn, Son Ho Young, Kim Tae Woo and Yoon Kye Sang, the group came to be known for their mix of R&B, rap, hip-hop, funk, and Korean-style ballads. At a time when English lyrics were used in Korean songs, they opted to sing and rap entirely in their native language. They were even the first to have their own reality show: g.o.d's Babysitting Diaries. g.o.d also became the first K-pop act to earn the nickname 'the nation's group" due to their humble nature, powerful vocals and relatable lyrics. view comments First Published: July 20, 2025, 16:29 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Stowaway cat hitches rooftop ride and gets motorbike escort home

While viewers were delighted by Joon's relaxed nature, many couldn't help but suspect this wasn't it's first rooftop escapade. PHOTO: THENATIONTH/X A cheeky cat named Joon has charmed the internet after unwittingly becoming the star of a rooftop joyride. In a now-viral video shared by TikTok user @__pukilove__ on June 13, Joon was caught on closed-circuit television lounging atop a moving car, completely unaware - and unfazed - as her owner unknowingly drove off. The car had already made it some distance from home before vigilant neighbours, familiar with both the cat and the owner, waved the driver down. Fortunately, a friendly motorcycle taxi driver, who happened to be a cat enthusiast, stepped in to help. Recognising Joon and knowing exactly where she lived, the driver personally escorted her back to her doorstep, safe and sound. While viewers were delighted by Joon's relaxed nature, many couldn't help but suspect this wasn't it's first rooftop escapade. As the video continues to gain attention, one playful question keeps popping up: who paid the bill for Joon's unexpected motortaxi ride?
