Forest dept issues demolition notices to 60 illegal shops on Dargah-Taragarh road
Ajmer: The forest department Monday issued demolition notices to 60 illegal shops built along the road from the dargah to Taragarh, citing encroachment on forest land. Shop owners have been asked to produce valid ownership documents within a stipulated period or face demolition. A team from the department, accompanied by heavy police deployment, pasted the notices on the shops. Divisional forest officer Virendra Singh Jora said 700 hectare of forest land lies above the dargah, and 40 vacant shops were identified along a kaccha road passing through this forest area. Notices were issued under the Land Revenue Act by the court of assistant conservator of forest (ACF), giving owners 15 days to submit ownership proof. Jora added that 20 more shops, found newly constructed during the drive, were also served notices. These owners have been given two days to approach the range office with documents. The forest department warned that encroachments would be cleared. The operation caused a stir in the area due to presence of a large police force. This follows a recent police crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the region, during which 21 individuals were detained.
