The PGA Tour unveiled its new "smart trace," which will change color after a shot based on whether the ball lands in the fairway or the green. Josh Carpenter, a reporter for Sports Business Journal, tweeted about the new change and shared the PGA Tour video that shows it shifting colors. PGA Tour debuts a new 'smart trace' that changes colors based on fairway probability — Josh Carpenter (@JoshACarpenter) June 5, 2025 His post sparked fans to begin discussing whether or not this is a change that needed to happen. There is no denying that since LIV Golf emerged onto the scene, the PGA Tour has made some changes with its schedule and payouts. Cool tech, but so much worse than the camera from behind with normal shot tracer... this is a terrible view for people who like golf — George Beardsley (@GBeardsley) June 5, 2025 The X user, George Beardsley, complimented the tech but expressed that he did not like it. "Cool tech, but so much worse than the camera from behind with normal shot tracer... this is a terrible view for people who like golf," he wrote. Another user wanted less technology and, of course, fewer commercials. How about less tech and less commercials? — Mike McG (@EffTruck) June 6, 2025 A few people took the opportunity to express their opinions about this change and remind the PGA Tour of their other needs. "This is cool, but we really just want to see more than six golfers during prime time coverage," X user Jack Goff wrote. While many people were unimpressed by the tracer, some fans still thought it was neat. Very cool. Love this application of tech. — Lee Brillhart (@leebrill) June 6, 2025 One guy suggested they do the same for the ladies' tour so more people can see how far the women hit it. There were many mixed reviews for this new technology, as it seemed to be a slight shift in the broadcast when there were other issues at hand. Many who commented on the new tracer quickly reminded the PGA Tour of that, too. Simply put, fans want fewer commercials and more action from the best players on the PGA Tour. At least the Tour seems finally open to changes and improving its product for professional golf. The broadcast may have room to grow, but it appears to be heading in the right direction. Shots Fired: LIV Golf Marketed Overhead at PGA Tour Byron Nelson

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The PGA Tour and LIV Golf can't quite see eye-to-eye, and negotiations between the two seem to be further away than June 6, 2023. In this scenario, the host of one of the Saudi-backed league's upcoming events came up with nothing better than to promote his tournament using the rival circuit as a platform. The fact was reported by Sports Business Journal journalist Josh Carpenter on his X account. What happened was that Maridoe Golf Club owner Albert Huddleston had a plane fly over TPC Craig Ranch, the host of this week's PGA Tour event, with a banner promoting the LIV Golf tournament his club will host next month. "Enjoy the Nelson & LIV Golf @ Maridoe June 27-29," the banner read. Albert Huddleston, the owner of Maridoe Golf Club near Dallas, is having this plane fly over the Nelson this afternoon. 'Enjoy the Nelson & LIV Golf @ Maridoe June 17-29.' — Josh Carpenter (@JoshACarpenter) May 3, 2025 Maridoe will host the LIV Golf Dallas event, which will return to the venue after its debut in 2024. Last September, it hosted the league's Team Championship, which was won by the All-Aussies team Ripper GC. Next June's event will be part of the league's regular schedule and will be the event played immediately following the U.S. Open, the third major of the season. Neither the PGA Tour nor LIV Golf has issued any comments on the matter. Scheffler started Moving Day with a six-shot lead, but didn't let up and now has an eight-shot lead with 18 holes to play. Scheffler carded a 5-under 66 in the third round despite his first two bogeys of the tournament (seven birdies). His 54-hole score is 23-under and threatens to break more records at this event. The World No. 1 has a shot at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson's aggregate (261) and to-par (23-under) records. He only needs to shoot a fourth round of even-par 71 to reach the former, while he needs to shoot a 3-under 68 or better on Sunday to add the latter record. The two-time Masters champion has already set a new 36-hole record for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson (18-under 124), which is the second-best 36-hole score in PGA Tour history, one stroke behind Justin Thomas' record of 123 at the 2017 Sony Open in Hawaii. Valspar signs extension to continue as PGA Tour title sponsor through 2030

Valspar signs extension to continue as PGA Tour title sponsor through 2030 Valspar was first a title sponsor of the PGA Tour event at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course in 2014, and that will partnership will continue through the end of the decade. Valspar, a paint and coatings manufacturer, has extended its title sponsorship of the Valspar Championship through 2030, the PGA Tour announced Monday. The current deal was set to expire after this season's event, which is set for March 20-23, the final stop of the PGA Tour's Florida Swing. Financial terms were not revealed, per Sports Business Journal's Josh Carpenter, though full-field events have been commanding between $13 million and $15 million per year. 'As the final event of the PGA Tour's Florida Swing, the Valspar Championship sits in a pivotal spot on the golf calendar as players and fans gear up for the heart of our FedEx Cup Season,' PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a release. 'Our friends at Valspar understand the importance this event carries in the Sunshine State and have embraced that role through unique activations including the Valspar Be Bright mural initiative and the Valspar Caddie Hat Program. The PGA Tour is proud to continue building upon these enhancements with Valspar as we take our relationship into the next decade.' The deal is also significant as numerous PGA Tour title sponsors have been waiting to sign extensions as unification talks with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund continue. Some sponsors have left in recent years, like Wells Fargo and Honda, while others, such as RBC that sponsors the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links and the Canadian Open, have committed to only one-year deals as negotiations continue. Last week, President Donald Trump met with commissioner Jay Monahan, Tiger Woods, Adam Scott and LIV Golf chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan at the White House to discuss unification, talks the PGA Tour called a "constructive working session." The PGA Tour's Florida Swing begins Thursday with the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches at PGA National's Champion Course.
