Bo Bichette's pinch-hit blast in ninth lifts low-scoring Jays to improbable series win over host Texas

If a 0-0 tie were even permitted in baseball, the Blue Jays and Rangers were certainly more than qualified to produce such an outcome. Article content Article content Neither team can hit, nor has shown any penchant for consistently putting up runs recently, and yet one team had to take Wednesday's series rubber match in Arlington because the rules dictate a winner must be established. Article content In a weird way, these two offensively challenged teams did create some drama the deeper the night went and the longer the game remained scoreless. Article content Article content The dramatics only intensified when Bo Bichette — who was not in the Jays' starting lineup because of back tightness and was labelled day-to-day by manager John Schneider — came off the bench as a surprise pinch-hitter in the ninth inning with two out and Ernie Clement on second base. Article content Bichette looked at a called first strike, then launched right-hander Jacob Webb's changeup deep to left field to account for all of the scoring and helped the Jays salvage something from a 2-4 road trip that saw them produce all of six runs in six games, including two shutout losses. Article content The night's other compelling story involved the Jays' pitching, a combined bullpen effort that yielded only one hit — a single by Josh Smith leading off the first inning.. Article content Three takeaways as the Jays took two of three in Texas: Article content Since he hit his most recent homer on May 11 in Seattle as the Jays capped off a series sweep of the Mariners, George Springer has recorded three extra-base hits, including one in Tuesday's loss at Globe Life Field. Article content No one was expecting the veteran to sustain his early-season revival, but something more needs to be extracted from Springer, who isn't the only player on the roster in need of an offensive bump. Article content In manager John Schneider's re-imagined lineup, Springer batted cleanup in the series finale, an order that had Daulton Varsho leading off in place of Bichette, Anthony Santander batting second followed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the No. 3 hole. Article content Vladdy was the lone hitter in the Jays' top of the order to produce a hit, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.

Want a glorious Memorial Day weather weekend, Boise? You got it

Whether you plan to attend the city of Boise's Memorial Day Ceremony, go for a walk, bike ride on the Greenbelt or just spend time in the yard this weekend, you're in for a treat with blue skies and lots of sun. Sunday's forecast high is 87 degrees, making it the warmest day of the weekend. Memorial Day itself should be around 80 degrees. And that's after an 80-degree Saturday. The normal high temperature for this time of year is about 75 degrees, according to National Weather Service data. Clear conditions are expected for the weekend, and as of now, there is no sign of rain in Boise. 'We're not looking for any precipitation right now for Memorial Day. There could be some thunderstorms around on Monday, but we don't have anything here in the valley; it's going to be mostly in the mountains,' said Josh Smith, a meteorologist overseeing Boise for the National Weather Service. Although the weekend is expected to be pleasantly warm with no extreme weather, conditions will be most favorable for outdoor activities on Saturday and Sunday, with those two days being the 'clearest and the warmest,' according to Smith. 'If you're going to stay in the valley, I would not expect any adverse weather,' Smith said. If you are leaving the valley to spend time in the mountains on Monday, weather conditions won't be as clear. 'Some people are going to be out camping or hiking in the mountains, so there is a chance for some thunderstorms … most of the day Monday. So that might be a concern for some people outside,' Smith said.

Big Bad Breakfast Returns to Serve Inlet Beach, 30A

Share with your friends! Pinterest LinkedIn Email Flipboard Reddit If you're a fan of hearty Southern breakfasts and long poolside brunches, we've got some delicious news: Big Bad Breakfast (BBB) is officially back and serving Inlet Beach! At the entrance of 30A and just before the first light in Rosemary Beach, the family-friendly spot has reopened its doors after a temporary closure. The shutdown came suddenly last November, when renovations on the complex housing the restaurant forced a six-month pause in service. 'We had about an hour's notice,' says Josh Smith, local owner and franchisee of both the Inlet Beach and Miramar Beach BBB locations. 'It was a whirlwind, but we made the most of it. More importantly, we made it through to the other side and are excited to be back.' We're excited they're back, too. Pin Big Bad Breakfast's break allowed the team to deep clean the space, add fresh paint, and complete a few thoughtful updates to the interior, which helped maintain the down-home diner charm guests know and love. One of the best pieces of news about the reopening is that BBB moved many folks over to the Miramar location and ultimately retained 85% of its workforce, including its trusted General Manager and Kitchen Manager. That means regulars can expect the same warm welcomes, impeccable service, and—perhaps most importantly—the same execution of the mouthwatering menu they've come to expect. Big Bad Breakfast is known for being a scratch kitchen, which means nothing is phoned in. The biscuits, jellies, and salad dressings are made in-house, and produce arrives fresh daily — a major reason the fresh-squeezed orange juice always hits just right. The eatery is also proudly part of the Fatback Pig Project, an initiative that sources one-of-a-kind meats like sausage, bacon, and chicken that you won't find anywhere else. Its long-standing partnership with Louisiana's Tabasco Company also gives it a unique edge. The 'spicy bacon' option is seasoned with a proprietary rub you'll dream about long after your last bite. In an era where many restaurants responded to inflation by raising prices, BBB has held firm in order to stay true to customer expectations. And that's really who this restaurant is all about. As Josh puts it, 'Word of mouth is great for advertising, but you really 'meet your guests' on their plates.' So whether you're craving a perfectly cooked Jack Benny, a biscuit slathered in housemade gravy, or a plate of that signature bacon, Big Bad Breakfast in Inlet Beach is open, energized, and ready to welcome you back. Local Tip: Skip the Line If you're planning a weekend visit or looking to jumpstart your day, take advantage of BBB's 'call-ahead' seating by phone or on Yelp! While traditional reservations are not allowed, the Inlet Beach team is exceptionally skilled at managing its dual-options waitlist — something many restaurants in the area cannot claim. Saving time and avoiding the wait without sacrificing the laid-back experience?
