Sixers draft history: Michael Carter-Williams selected No. 11 in 2013

With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history. This edition focuses on the 2013 draft when the Sixers selected Syracuse guard Michael Carter-Williams with the No. 11 overall pick. Philadelphia had just traded All-Star guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans earlier in the evening so the Sixers needed his replacement. They found it in Carter-Williams. Advertisement The 6-foot-6 guard went on to win Rookie of the Year with averages of 16.7 points, 6.3 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.9 steals while shooting 40.5% from the floor. He had one halluva NBA debut going for 22 points, 12 assists, nine steals, and seven rebounds while guiding the Sixers to an upset win over LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and the defending champion Miami Heat. Carter-Williams looked like he was going to be a Sixers fixture for quite some time. However, he missed time to begin the 2014-15 season due to offseason shoulder surgery and he got off to a slow start. He was then traded to the Milwaukee Bucks at the deadline in 3-team deal that netted a 2018 draft pick. Carter-Williams would go on to play nine years in the league. He played for the Sixers, Bucks, Chicago Bulls, Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets, and Orlando Magic. He averaged 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists across his nine seasons playing in the league. What might the Los Angeles Clippers trade the Boston Celtics for vet guard Jrue Holiday?

What might the Los Angeles Clippers trade the Boston Celtics for vet guard Jrue Holiday? What might the Los Angeles Clippers trade the Boston Celtics for vet guard Jrue Holiday? The UCLA alum has found himself in the thick of the speculation about which players the Celtics might move on from to save money as they stare down a historically large payroll and tax bill thanks to the second apron restrictions in the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Holiday has even found his name floated in a few trade rumors, such as for the Dallas Mavericks and Clippers, coming from trusted NBA sources. Those rumors may have some truth at their roots, but even if they are, what could a team like the Clips send back to Boston in such a deal that would make sense for both sides? Cohost of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, linked up with guest Law Murray to talk it all over. Check it out below! Report: Los Angeles Clippers expected to show interest in Boston Celtics vet Jrue Holiday

Report: Los Angeles Clippers expected to show interest in Boston Celtics vet Jrue Holiday There may be another suitor for veteran Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday this offseason. As the Celtics will likely try to clear salary this summer to diminish the punishing incoming payroll and tax bill their roster would be set to incur thanks to the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA), Holiday has been floated as one of the more likely players to be on the move to such an end. And now MassLive's Brian Robb reports that "Holiday is expected to be pursued by several teams on the trade market," lining up with similar reports from the likes of the Stein Line's Marc Stein, and "the Los Angeles Clippers are one team expected to show interest in the 34-year-old guard this offseason." Astute readers will recall that the Clippers were one of the ball clubs pursuing the UCLA alum before the Celtics successfully dealt for Holiday in 2023, so the rumbles make sense from what we know about what their front office values in terms of team building. Whether the two teams would be able to put together an offer that would make sense for both sides is another matter. But it is a possibility to monitor as the offseason unfolds, and a potential point of leverage for Boston to use in negotiations with other teams should they elect to consider moving on from Holiday.

What would the Dallas Mavericks trade for vet Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday?

What would the Dallas Mavericks trade for vet Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday? What would the Dallas Mavericks trade for vet Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday? With respected, connected NBA reporters like Marc Stein sharing rumbles about the Mavs eyeing the likes of Holiday as a potential trade target at the exact same moment we are seeing copious speculation that the UCLA alum is one of the more likely players for the Celtics to trade to try to tame their rapidly ballooning payroll and tax bill, the potential for a deal between the 2024 NBA Finals opponents has never seemed higher. But if such a deal were to happen, it would be a bit of a complicated dance given the goals each of the two franchises are working with as much as the parameters the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) allows them to do such trades in. Cohost of the CLNS Media "Garden Report" podcast, Bobby Manning, recently say down with Tim Cato from DLLS Sports to talk it all over. Check it out below! NBA trade rumor: Los Angeles Clippers eye Jrue Holiday to build elite backcourt with Harden

(Image Source - Getty Images) The Los Angeles Clippers are creating a stir in the NBA trade rumor world as they aim to acquire Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday. With James Harden expected to stick around in Los Angeles, the Clippers are considering ways to enhance their backcourt, and Holiday's championship experience along with his defensive skills make him a prime target. Clippers revisit Jrue Holiday pursuit amid Celtics' financial constraints The Clippers have had their eye on Jrue Holiday for a while now. Back in 2023, they tried to get him but lost out to the Celtics, who sent Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, and a couple of future first-round picks to the Portland Trail Blazers for Holiday. Now, with the Celtics dealing with hefty luxury tax penalties—over $40 million into the luxury tax and $20 million into the second apron—they might be more willing to trade high-salary guys like Holiday to ease their financial burden. Holiday, who has won the NBA championship twice and made the All-Defensive Team six times, put up averages of 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the 2024–25 regular season. His defensive abilities and leadership could really enhance Harden's scoring skills, forming a strong backcourt partnership for the Clippers. To make a trade happen, the Clippers could think about putting together a deal that features players like Bogdan Bogdanovic ($16 million salary) and Drew Eubanks ($4.75 million), plus a young talent like Jordan Miller or Cam Christie to balance the salaries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Killer New Toyota 4Runner Is Utter Perfection (Take A Look) MorninJoy But whether the Celtics would go for this kind of offer would hinge on how they view the potential and compatibility of the new players with their team. For the Celtics, moving Holiday could ease their financial burden and give them a chance to nurture younger players, particularly since star Jayson Tatum is likely to be out for most or all of the upcoming season due to injury. Even without Tatum, the Celtics are feeling good about their competitiveness, highlighting the team's depth and resilience. On the flip side, the Celtics might consider trading Holiday as a smart move to handle their finances and focus on the team's future. As the NBA offseason rolls on, this possible trade is definitely something to keep an eye on, as it could have big effects for both teams.
