Spaniard Muniz says adios after three memorable years with JDT
PETALING JAYA: Spanish midfielder Juan Muniz (pic) has bid farewell to Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) – the club he has called home for the past three years.
The 33-year-old's contract with the Southern Tigers has come to an end, and Muniz took to social media to announce his departure, with a heavy heart.
'After three unforgettable years, it's time to close a very special chapter in my life,' said Muniz.
'I'm saying goodbye to JDT with a heart full of gratitude for everything I've experienced at this club,' he said.
Muniz joined JDT from Greek club Atromitos, and has since made 42 appearances for the Southern Tigers and scored 15 goals.
He also thanked team owner, the Regent of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, and sporting director Kiko Insa for their belief in him.
'Thanks also to my teammates, the staff, and all the fans for making this journey truly unique.
'Johor will always be a part of me. See you in the future!' he said.
Muniz's departure also saw well wishes from his current and former teammates, with Arif Aiman Hanapi saying, 'Thank you my bro, all the best in the future!'
Midfielder Syamer Kutty Abba, who is on loan from JDT to Kuala Lumpur, said, 'Good luck my Gareth Bale!'
Muniz was among the three finalists for the Best Import Player award at the 2024-2025 National Football Awards, which went to teammate Bergson Da Silva.
Among Muniz's highlights with the club was at last season's FA Cup final, when he was named best player after scoring a hattrick during JDT's 6-1 win against Selangor at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
