Formula E's Driving Force program aims to guide 50,000 students amid need for skilled workforce in UK
Formula E (Image credit: Formula E) Formula E has several initiatives running under its sustainability campaign. Among them is a youth education program called Driving Force, supported by PIF E360. It aims to teach children between the ages of 8 and 18 about science, technology, and sustainability. The goal is to reach over 50,000 students worldwide by the end of 2025. All about Formula E's Driving Force program supported by PIF E360 The Driving Force initiative comes at a time when there is expected to be a massive demand for 200,000 skilled workers in the UK for green jobs by 2030, according to PwC. Driving Force helps students learn about clean energy and the environment. It also introduces them to role models from the fields of science and technology, helping them gain the knowledge and confidence needed to consider careers in these areas. These workshops use fun and practical activities to show how what students learn in school can lead to exciting real-world careers in racing, clean energy, engineering, and more. Driving Force workshops in London On July 16, over 90 students participated in Formula E's Driving Force workshop at Hammersmith Academy in London. The session was one of five workshops held at schools across London in July, near the London E-Prix race site in East London and Formula E's headquarters in Hammersmith. Earlier this year, similar workshops were also held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Miami, USA, during Formula E race weeks. Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability at Formula E, said, "A survey in 2024 of more than 7,000 UK secondary school students reveals a worrying downward trend in both their involvement in and their ambition to pursue STEM subjects — a stark wake-up call for educators and policymakers alike." "Teachers are being asked to make stronger connections between subjects and careers, but they need support from employers to do that effectively. Driving Force, presented by PIF E360, is part of the solution to help the education system deliver what our students and our green economy both desperately need to succeed,' she added. For example, they recently participated in a beach clean-up near the site of the Jakarta E-Prix. Sustainable drinking water cups and similar practices are small but meaningful contributions by Formula E toward making motorsport as sustainable as ever. Formula E leaves green footprint in Jakarta with beach clean-up, plant donation, eco cups, and other sustainable initiatives
Image credit: Formula E Formula E is not only introducing the fastest electric car, the GEN3 Evo, at the Jakarta E-Prix this year but also making an impact off the track. Several Formula E members participated in a beach clean-up on Thursday at Pantai Beach in the Ancol resort, where the race will be held. They are also engaging in local partnerships, educational initiatives, and community outreach to help reduce the environmental impact in the city. Beach clean-up by Formula E members On Thursday, June 19, Formula E, Waste4Change, and over 100 volunteers—including FE team members and drivers—joined local community members for a large-scale beach clean-up. The initiative focused on conserving marine habitats and addressing waste management, a key issue in coastal Jakarta. Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability at Formula E, said about the drive: 'Plastic pollution is a growing problem that affects everyone around the world and is a growing challenge here in Jakarta — threatening both coastal habitats and the health of nearby communities. At every race, we are committed to engaging with local communities and aim to leave a place better than we found it. We are united as a championship with the community to clean the local area of plastic rubbish and ensure it is sustainably managed and not put back into landfill. ' Sustainable initiatives at Jakarta International E-Prix Circuit To further minimize waste at the event, free hydration stations will provide water refills to reduce reliance on single-use plastic bottles. Visitors will also receive biodegradable eco-cups made from corn starch flour as an alternative to traditional plastic. Six dedicated waste stations will be set up for proper recycling and plastic waste management. How Formula E is making an impact in Jakarta Formula E has undertaken several more sustainability initiatives in Jakarta. A Formula E delegation visited the Waste4Change recycling center on Tuesday to learn about effective waste management practices and the role of the circular economy in conserving resources. On Wednesday, a school visit featured a panel talk on environmental education and youth leadership, along with art and cultural exchanges between students and Formula E members. Following the race, a paddock plant donation is scheduled. Trees and plants used during the event will be donated to local schools. After the race on Saturday, Formula E will host a ceremony on-site with local school students to mark the donation. The 'Climateability: From the Margins to the Frontlines' project aims to empower women, people with disabilities, and youth groups most vulnerable to climate impacts. It will include inclusive leadership workshops, digital storytelling, training, and the development of a Climate Sign Language Glossary in Bisindo. Students participate in FIA Girls on Track events at Formula E Championship in Jeddah
JEDDAH: Ahead of the first Jeddah E-Prix, the FIA, Formula E management and participating teams and partners took part in several events at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit to educate and inspire 120 young local girls. For the latest updates, follow us @ArabNewsSport The FIA Girls On Track initiative is designed to increase female participation in Formula E. Young women from the ages of 12 to 18 are invited to discover, for free, different aspects of the motorsport industry. The activities, which took place on Friday ahead of the races that night, on offer included career talks, a walkthrough of the pit lane, activations in the Gaming Arena, and partner workshops led by inspirational women from within the paddock. In addition to the on-site events, Formula E co-hosted a panel discussion at the University of Business and Technology (UBT) with the Nissan Formula E Team. The attending group of 70 selected UBT students heard from an expert panel from the FIA. Questions posed by the students covered the inaugural Jeddah E-Prix, race week operations, sustainable racing, diversity initiatives, and Formula E's continued focus on innovation. Speaking about the initiative, Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability, Formula E, said: 'These programs and initiatives benefit the people in our host communities and the wider environment where we race. This weekend here in Jeddah, we continue to make sure our race weekend is delivered to the highest possible sustainability standards, while championing and supporting equity, community and environmental action.' Laiali Al-Zahrani, an 18-year-old Saudi student who took part in the event, told Arab News: 'The experience was incredible. We got to meet some of the drivers, meet amazing people, and learn how members of the team work together in order to win. We learned how teamwork is so important. We also learned how communication and organization are important to make things efficient and safe.'
