Will There Be A ‘Happy Gilmore 3'? Here's The Bad News
Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 had a massive debut weekend on Netflix, so does that mean there are already talks of a Happy Gilmore 3? Happy Gilmore 2, which is new on Netflix, arrived on the streaming platform on July 25, more than 29 years after the release of the original Happy Gilmore film in February of 1996. Starring Sandler as the title character opposite original Happy Gilmore cast members Julie Bowen (Virginia Venit) and Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin), Happy Gilmore 2 finds Happy in a not-so-happy place. After marrying Virginia and having five kids together, Happy's life goes into a tailspin after a personal tragedy and he quits the golf game. But when a huge opportunity arises for Happy's daughter, Vienna (Sunny Sandler), to attend a prestigious but spendy private ballet school, the one-time hockey-stick-wielding professional golf sensation aims to make a comeback to provide for his family. However, a rich entrepreneur, Frank Manatee (Benny Sadfie) runs interference with Happy's plan when his new extreme sports-like golf league threatens the world of professional golf. Happy Gilmore 2 attracted massive viewership numbers on Netflix in its first three days of release, which was enough for the sequel to rack up 46.7 million views — which equates to 91.9 million hours viewed — to debut at No. 1 on Netflix's Top 10 Global Movies chart for the week of July 21-27. Naturally, a viewer response like that begs the obvious question of whether there will be a Happy Gilmore 3. Unfortunately for fans, Happy Gilmore franchise writer Tim Herlihy — who penned the Happy Gilmore and Happy Gilmore 2 scripts with Sandler — told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday that right now, the answer is no as to whether the idea of a second Happy Gilmore sequel has been discussed. 'Not between me and Adam,' Herlihy, who did the interview with Sandler, told THR. 'I can say we haven't had one discussion about it. I haven't even thought about it in the privacy of my own brain. I'm sure some people in the world are talking about it. Never say never, I guess. We said we'd never do Happy Gilmore 2, and it's currently streaming on Netflix, so you never know.' As for other principals involved with the new film, the idea of a Happy Gilmore 3 film isn't on Happy Gilmore 2 director Kyle Newacheck's radar, either. 'I would be too forward to even think about it right now,' Newacheck told The Direct. 'The first one took [a] 29-year gestation period before they figured out what the second one is. I feel like whatever I come up with right now is going to be, not it, homie.' Adam Sandler And Tim Herlihy Were In A Happy Place Before 'Happy Gilmore 2' Was Even Released In his THR interview with Tim Herlihy, Adam Sandler was naturally thrilled about the huge reception of Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix over the weekend, which was an extension of the good vibes he was getting before the film arrived on the streaming service. 'We couldn't be happier. It's something that I can't describe,' Sandler told THR. 'Just walking down the street, hearing people talk about it even before it came out — we were like, something fun is going on here. We went from 'This was nothing we ever thought about' to having one of the best times of our careers together feeling, the fun of it all.' While the idea of a Happy Gilmore 3 seems like a non-starter for now, it doesn't mean that other characters in Herlihy and Sandler's treasure trove of comedies aren't up for the sequel treatment. Herlihy told THR that the success of Happy Gilmore 2 'throws it open' regarding sequels for past characters from their films. 'Obviously, a lot of our older movies, we've lost cast members, like in this one, and sometimes it's hard to imagine doing it without them. Definitely not sure we want to just be in the business of doing sequels to movies,' Herlihy told THR with a laugh. 'But the response to this and the way people have embraced it definitely makes it more exciting, if we were to do that.' Also starring Ben Stiller, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), Hayley Joel Osment, Sadie Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Margaret Qualley and John Daly — and featuring several and showbiz and pro sports star cameos — Happy Gilmore 2 is new on Netflix.

Netflix Has Both 'Happy Gilmore' Movies Right Now, but Not for Long
The biggest original film to arrive on Netflix in July was undoubtedly Happy Gilmore 2. The Adam Sandler sequel was 30 years in the making and marks the return of one of his most iconic characters, Happy Gilmore, a Boston Bruins-obsessed hockey fan who turns his mean slapshot into a professional golf career. Happy Gilmore 2 premiered on Netflix on July 25, and features most of the original film's cast. Sandler is joined by Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Dennis Dugan and Ben Stiller, all of whom reprise their roles from the first movie. Sadly, some members of the original 1996 cast, including Bob Barker and Carl Weathers, have died, but new characters played by Bad Bunny, Kym Whitley and Benny Safdie debuted in the sequel. With so much hype around the new release, it makes sense that fans are clamoring to revisit the original, which dropped on Netflix July 1 and is currently in the Netflix Top 10. But you'll have to act fast if you want to watch the comedy classic on Netflix -- that's because Happy Gilmore will no longer be streaming there after July 31. But, when one door closes, another opens, while you may not be able to watch the original on Netflix after this week, the good news is that it'll arrive on Starz on Friday, Aug. 1 so you can catch it there. You'll still be able to rent Happy Gilmore on platforms like Prime Video and Apple TV, too. So if you're gearing up for a Happy Gilmore weekend, fear not, you can still stream both films, as long as you know where to look.

Adam Sandler Explains Why He Added Happy Gilmore's Iconic Soundtrack Back Into The Sequel
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Happy Gilmore is one of Adam Sandler's best rom-coms, and is arguably one of the most iconic titles from his long resume. The next upcoming Sandler movie is a long-awaited sequel for that title, which is arriving this week for those with a Netflix subscription. I had the chance to catch and early screening, and asked Sandman why so many of the songs from the original made their way to Happy's second movie adventure. What we know about Happy Gilmore 2 has been limited thus far, as Netflix and Sandler are hoping to guard the secrets of the follow-up. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with Sandler and Julie Bowen ahead of its release. I asked about the repeats in the soundtrack, and he told me: When we put them in we were editing and we would throw the right song in from the past and it would give you just a whole other feeling for the scene. We were definitely trying to show respect for the first one throughout the movie and the feelings that gave you and connect the two. I'm glad you brought that up. Whenever we could and whenever it made sense we put a song in from the first one. Honestly, this tracks (no pun intended). Music has a strange way of bringing people back to a certain time, and Adam Sandler has always brought memorable soundtracks to his movies. And fans who have re-watched Happy Gilmore over and over again will likely be struck by the way the same needle drops are used in the sequel. The Happy Gilmore 2 trailer featured one such song, namely Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone." This song opened the original movie, and it does the same for the sequel. In our conversation Sandler brought that track up specifically, saying: That Lynyrd Skynyrd song up top always breaks your heart, yeah He's not wrong. The nostalgic feels for Happy Gilmore 2 are real, as it feels like a love letter to the 1996 original. In my screening I could see other fans get excited when they heard the same songs, as well as every little easter egg and reference to the first movie. Now I'm curious to see if certain tracks end up being streamed more after the new project is released. Happy Gilmore 2 is one of the most highly anticipated titles on the 2025 Netflix release list. Adam Sandler has been finding a ton of success with his movies for the streaming service, which include Hubie Halloween and and the Murder Mystery franchise. Happy Gilmore has a legacy all its own, and the first movie has been trending on Netflix as fans prepare for the sequel. At the time of writing this story, it's currently #4 among all of Netflix's vast catalogue of movies. It certainly seems like Happy Gilmore 2 is set up for success, and we'll see how well it ultimately performs when it arrives on Netflix on July 25th as part of the 2025 movie release list. Julie Bowen Reacts To Her Famous Happy Gilmore Lingerie Scene (And Its Big Return In The Sequel)
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Spoilers ahead for Happy Gilmore 2. Adam Sandler has a number of beloved movies on his long resume, including Happy Gilmore. The 1996 sports comedy (which is streaming with a Netflix subscription) is arguably one of Sandler's best rom-coms, thanks to the title character's love story with Julie Bowen's Virginia Venit. She reprised that role for Happy Gilmore 2, and recently spoke to CinemaBlend about her reaction to the OG movie's lingerie scene... and how it factored into the sequel. What we knew about Happy Gilmore 2 has been limited ahead its release on Netflix, with Sandman and the gang trying to guard the long-awaited sequel's secrets. That includes the way Virginia is used, a huge twist comes her way early on in the Adam Sandler movie. As you can see in the video above, I had the privilege of speaking with the cast ahead of the sequel's release, where I asked Bowen about that iconic lingerie scene from the original. She told me: When I read it in the first script it's what made me love the first script. You don't know how great those performances are going to be. You don't know they're actually gonna get Carl Weathers or anything. You're just reading it going 'I think it's funny but I'm not sure.' And I get to that scene and I laughed out loud 30 years ago at two pitchers of beer. And I thought 'I want this.' She's not wrong. Virginia is a buttoned-up professional for Happy Gilmore, so seeing her in lingerie carrying two huge pitchers of beer in the "Happy Place" was a hilarious departure. And per our conversation, that was one of the big reasons that the Modern Family star wanted to sign onto the 1996 original. Happy Gilmore 2 is chock-full of easter eggs and references to the original movie, with Sandler even using the same soundtrack. We also briefly see OG Virginia back in the lingerie, with current-day Bowen getting to share a scene with her younger self. In our same interview, she spoke more about that iconic scene, sharing: I've always seen that as hilarious and funny and a sendup of sex pinups. I never felt objectified by that at all. So when it's coming back I was like 'I don't know if I can still put it on.' That's the only thing I was afraid of. Of course, Bowen didn't actually have to suit back up in the white lingerie. Or if she did, it ended up on the cutting room floor. Instead we got to see both version of Virginia share the screen together. And it was yet another way that Happy Gilmore 2 feels like a love letter to the original. Julie Bowen was only featured briefly in Happy Gilmore 2's trailer, and it becomes clear early onto the movie. Still, it's exciting that so many original actors are back for the sequel, including Christopher McDonald, Kevin Nealon, Dan Patrick and Verne Lundquist. In our interview Julie Bowen further shared her support of Virginia's appearance in the "Happy Place", telling me: I always felt completely respected and in control of all of it. Anticipation for the long-awaited comedy is high, and the original Happy Gilmore has been trending on Netflix ahead of its release. Julie Bowen returning as Virginia proved to fans that the spirit of the first movie would continue, and I can tell you there are countless references and easter eggs to the first one. Happy Gilmore 2 will arrive on Netflix on July 25th as part of the 2025 movie release list. We'll just have to see if the movie inspires Adam Sandler to produce more sequels to his beloved '90s hits like Billy Madison or The Waterboy. Solve the daily Crossword

Gilmore has to navigate the world of professional golf tournaments nearly 30 years after famously winning his first Tour Championship. In addition to Sandler, the film also stars returning cast members Julie Bowen as Gilmore's wife, Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald as Gilmore's longtime nemesis, Shooter McGavin. While the original Happy Gilmore was primarily filmed in Vancouver, Sandler and the Happy Gilmore 2 team opted for a different approach and shot the movie in New Jersey in the fall of 2024. The film includes scenes from several golf courses, local spots and favorite beaches. So, where was Happy Gilmore 2 filmed? Scenes were shot in a total of nine counties: Bergen County, Essex County, Hudson County, Hunterdon County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Passaic County, Somerset County and Warren County. The movie's director, Kyle Newacheck, spoke to NJ Advance Media about what it was like pinpointing specific sites during the summer, a few weeks before the cameras started rolling. 'I really liked some old buildings we shot in. My only complaint is how humid it was when I was walking around scouting," he said. "I mean, it's not even really a complaint. I just remember that my entire being was covered in sweat, and I wasn't used to that feeling.' Meanwhile, the state Economic Development Authority told the outlet that the Happy Gilmore 2 production spent a total of $152 million filming in New Jersey. Which golf courses were featured in Happy Gilmore 2? As Happy Gilmore 2 centers around Gilmore's return to golfing, it should come as no surprise that the movie showcases several of New Jersey's finest golf courses. 'My goodness, you have some beautiful golf courses out there in New Jersey,' Newacheck told NJ Advance Media. The film featured shots from six different golf courses, but most of the scenes took place at two private country clubs: Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, according to and the Montclair Golf Club in Verona, Patch reported. Fiddler's Elbow is a private club with a clubhouse and three unique 18-hole golf courses — the River Course, the Meadow Course and the Forest Course. The second primary club they used was the Montclair Golf Club, which is also a private club founded in 1893 with four 9-hole golf courses. In addition to the two main clubs, the sequel was shot at Alpine Country Club in Demarest, Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands and Rockleigh Golf Course in Rockleigh, per NJ Advance Media. What other spots were shown in Happy Gilmore 2? While the movie takes place on several golf courses, there are still dozens of spots around New Jersey that are shown in Happy Gilmore 2. Unlike the first film, the sequel includes numerous moments on a beach where Gilmore practices his swing away from the golf course. The main beach used in the movie was Ideal Beach, located in Middletown off the Jersey shore, according to NJ Advance Media. Another major landmark in Happy Gilmore 2 is the castle-like venue where Gilmore gets honored for his golfing career. In reality, the property is the Pleasantdale Château & Conference Estate in West Orange. The famed estate has previously been featured in The Sopranos and Law and Order. One less glamorous spot the filmmakers used was Newark Liberty International Airport, Terminal A. Newacheck told NJ Advance Media that they used the facility for a "big airplane joke." Sandler and his costars were also seen filming at Goldberg's World Famous Deli & Bagels in Millburn, LOKL Café in Morristown, Faubourg Montclair restaurant and Steve's Burgers in Garfield, among others, per TAPinto Somerset Hills. Jame Meier, who is a South Orange resident, saw Sandler filming with his daughter, Sunny Sandler, in South Orange and told The Village Green in September 2024, 'Adam and his daughter Sunny were so nice. They made a point to say hi to all the excited kids watching. They took some pics and thanked everyone for letting them film in their neighborhood.' In addition to public outings, the cast shot at several private homes and residences in Kearney, Closter, West Orange, South Orange and Bedminster. A private home in Belleville serves as the interior of Gilmore's home, while a house in Irvington was the exterior of Gilmore's home, the director told NJ Advance Media.
