BTS' V and Jungkook Defamation case update: Unable to reach a settlement with YouTuber
BTS members V and Jungkook have been at the centre of a defamation case with the infamous YouTuber Sojang. Known to target celebrities and online personalities and share defamatory content, the operator of the channel and the BTS members were unable to settle in a recent case hearing. BTS V and Jungkook fail to settle defamation case The BTS members earlier this year had filed a defamation case against the owner of the online channel Sojang. As per Allkpop reports, the 1st Mediation Division of the Seoul Western District Court held a special hearing on July 21, in the form of a mediation session. The aim was to ensure that both parties could appeal their case concerning the defamation lawsuit that was filed in March 2023. However, the BTS members were unable to settle with the alleged perpetrators. This ensures that a regular trial will now be carried on in order to determine whether the actions of the YourTuber are punishable or not. About the case In March 2023, BTS's company officially filed a damages claim against the channel, seeking 90 million KRW in total for the distress that was caused to the members by their videos. Known for their love of Korean food, it is not surprising that they craved the taste of their homeland while being in a foreign nation. The viral clip showcases them in casual t-shirts and trousers, as they head to their table in the restaurant. Jimin showed his appreciation to the fans filming their restaurant visit with a gracious bow and by waving at them. It demonstrated his considerate attitude towards them even during off-duty moments, which truly reflects his kind heart. Jungkook proves enduring global impact with milestone achievement Jungkook, who is both loved as a talented soloist and as the youngest member of global sensation BTS, has set another historic global record on Spotify. According to the World Music Awards, on Monday, Jungkook became the first Asian solo artist in history to surpass 100 million streams on every original track released via his Spotify account. Among the 47 tracks registered under his profile, 18 are original songs, excluding remixes. The World Music Awards honor the world's bestselling music artists. Jungkook is also one of only three artists in the world ― alongside Billie Eilish and Harry Styles ― to achieve 100 million streams on every original solo track on Spotify, according to international outlet Oneily Vibe. Jungkook's most-streamed track is 'Seven,' which had amassed 2.4 billion streams as of Monday. It is followed by 'Standing Next to You' with 1.2 billion streams and a collaboration track with Charlie Puth, 'Left and Right,' which has garnered over 1.1 billion streams. "Seven" holds records both for racking up streams the fastest and achieving the highest number ever for a song by an Asian artist on the platform, which was founded in 2006. Jungkook has continued to hit milestone after milestone as a soloist. In 2023, he was recognized by the Guinness World Records for becoming the fastest artist in history to reach 1 billion Spotify streams, achieving the feat in only 409 days with just three solo tracks. BTS' V and Jungkook's Sojang defamation case moves to trial
In a fresh development in the defamation case filed by BTS members V and Jungkook against YouTuber Sojang, both parties appeared in court on July 21 for a court-led mediation session. However, the attempt at reaching a settlement proved unsuccessful, suggesting that the legal battle is far from reported by Korean media outlet Star Today, the mediation took place at 9:40 am KST (6:10 am IST) at the Seoul Western District Court. The session was held in an effort to settle the dispute without proceeding to a full trial. The case, originally filed in January 2025, was redirected to mediation by the court on June lawsuit revolves around allegations that Sojang, who runs the YouTube channel Taldeok Camp, spread false and damaging content about the BTS duo. Despite the court's involvement in facilitating discussions, both parties failed to reach a compromise. The court has since declared the mediation unsuccessful, meaning the case will now return to the standard trial process. Earlier this year, in February 2025, the Seoul Western District Court had ruled in favour of V and Jungkook, concluding that Sojang had published defamatory content in 23 videos posted between October 2021 and June 2023. The court initially ordered her to pay 76 million KRW (approx. Rs 47 lakh) in damages, slightly lower than the 90 million KRW sought by the BTS members, citing her status as a first-time offender and her expression of has previously lost multiple other defamation suits, including cases involving IVE's Jang Wonyoung and former Wanna One member Kang Daniel.- EndsMust Watch
