Complete closure of I-135 in north Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Thousands of drivers will be affected when road crews close Interstate 135 in north Wichita for almost the entire weekend. The Kansas Department of Transportation is closing southbound lanes starting Friday evening and northbound lanes beginning Saturday morning. I-135 will remain closed until 6 a.m. Monday, in time for the morning rush hour. The closure will also affect drivers on I-235, Kansas Highway 96, Kansas Highway 254, and streets that connect to the highways. Complete details are below the map. To allow early pavement patching, southbound I-135 will close at 7 p.m. Friday from the K-254 interchange to just past the K-96 interchange. The ramp from westbound K-96 to southbound I-135 will also close. The newly constructed I-235 connector ramp to eastbound K-96 will remain open Friday night. Free fishing weekend coming up for Kansas At 5 a.m. Saturday, KDOT will close I-135 completely in both directions. The closure includes northbound I-135 at the K-96/I-135 interchange, the I-235 ramps to southbound I-135 and the I-235 connector ramp to eastbound K-96. Northbound drivers will be directed to eastbound K-96. They will exit at Hillside Street and use westbound K-96 to return to northbound I-135. Drivers will not be able to turn north or south onto Hillside Street from the K-96 detour route. KDOT said crews will be working on pavement patching, bridge surface repairs and barrier wall adjustments while I-135 is closed. Detour signs will guide drivers off the interstate. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Drivers will have to use a detour in Johnson County on I-435 starting on Monday, June 2. A Kansas Department of Transportation bridge repair project on the Nall Avenue over the eastbound I-435 bridge is set to begin tomorrow. During construction, the following routes will be altered: Eastbound I-435, Metcalf Avenue to Antioch Road, double lane closure. Eastbound I-435 to Nall Avenue exit ramp fully closed. Eastbound I-435 to Roe Avenue exit ramp fully closed. Metcalf Avenue to eastbound I-435 traffic will not have access to enter I-435 mainline lanes using the Metcalf Avenue entrance ramp. Traffic will be directed to the auxiliary lane and continue east to merge with eastbound I-435 mainline lanes at the Roe Avenue entrance This will be the following detour: Eastbound I-435/Nall Avenue and eastbound I-435/Roe Avenue exit ramp traffic: Continue on eastbound I-435 to use the State Line Road exit ramp, then turn left and travel north on State Line Road. Turn left to use the westbound I-435 entrance ramp and travel west to exit at Roe Avenue or Nall Avenue. WAMEGO (KSNT) – State transportation officials say an upcoming railroad crossing repair project in Wamego will result in traffic disruptions at the local level and a big detour for some. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced on KanDrive that work crews are getting ready to start the repair project at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 31 and wrap it up by 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3. Workers will be repairing a railroad crossing that sits between U.S. Highway 40 and the Wabaunsee/Pottawatomie County line. Wamego Caterpillar facility changes ownership, hundreds of local jobs saved KS-99 Highway will be shut down for both northbound and southbound traffic while this project is ongoing, according to KDOT. The official detour route for those trying to reach Wamego on KS-99 Highway from the south runs for nearly 30 miles and is as follows: Drivers traveling north on KS-99 Highway will turn west onto KS-18 Highway/Zeandale Road and take it to Manhattan. Next, take KS-18 Highway onto KS-177/Highway 24. Lastly, take Highway 24 east-northeast back to Wamego. The above detour is the same but in reverse for those trying to get around to the south of Wamego from the north, according to KDOT. Drivers should expect about 35-40 minutes of extra time on the road when following the detour route, according to Google Maps. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Part of U.S. 69 highway in Overland Park will be fully closed in the overnight hours for the next two days as part of the state's 69Express project. According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, all northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 69 between 103rd Street and College Boulevard will be closed to traffic. KHP searching for family of victim who died in I-35 crash Saturday morning The closures will take place from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, and then again from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. Drivers who are headed north on U.S. 69 will be directed to use the eastbound Interstate 435 ramp, travel east on I-435, exit at Antioch Road, re-enter I-435 to head west, and then use the northbound U.S. 69 ramp to get back onto the highway. Southbound U.S. 69 drivers will be directed to use the I-435/103rd Street ramp and then continue south to return to the highway. Crews will be conducting pavement work and overhead truss installation during those times as part of KDOT's U.S. 69 corridor modernization and expansion project. Crash slows traffic on I-70 near Junction City

JUNCTION CITY (KSNT) – A major highway in Kansas was closed in both directions in Junction City due to a crash on Monday afternoon. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) reports on KanDrive that I-70 was closed both east and westbound in the area of Grandview Plaza due to a crash on May 26. This crash was in the same area as major ongoing construction work. Traffic was diverted off the highway as first responders work the crash site. KDOT reported the highway was open again as of 6 p.m. You can check current road conditions in Kansas by dialing 5-1-1 or by heading to KanDrive. It was not clear if anybody was injured in the crash at the time of publishing. 27 News will update this article as more information is released.
