Korangi Road cattle market licence cancelled

The commissioner Karachi has cancelled the licence of a cattle market, established legally on Korangi Road, in compliance with the court orders. The decision causing significant concern among traders. The administration of the cattle market announced they would challenge the decision in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday. They have appealed to the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to resolve the matter. According to Korangi Cattle Market Administrator, Sardar Sohail, the market's licence was properly obtained through an official auction process under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. A payment of Rs7 million was made to KMC through a bid process to secure the permission. Commissioner Karachi had originally issued the market's operating licence on May 9 after all legal requirements were fulfilled based on reports from relevant authorities including KMC, the deputy commissioner of Korangi, police and other departments. Korangi Road cattle market spans ten acres of land and currently hosts more than 250 traders and cattle farmers who have set up stalls to sell their livestock. The market contains approximately 4,000 large and small animals and has developed into a temporary settlement complete with food stalls, online banking facilities, parking and other necessary facilities. In addition to local traders, more than 250 sellers from Punjab and various parts of Sindh have brought their animals to sell in the market, which supports the livelihoods of a number of families. Traders have expressed deep concern following the sudden cancellation of market's licence by the commissioner's office, which cited court orders as the reason for revocation. They are now facing uncertainty about where to relocate their businesses and decided to approach the court on Thursday for resolution. The market has been serving residents of Korangi, Landhi, Defence, Mahmoodabad, Qayyumabad and surrounding areas, providing convenient access to buy sacrificial animals. Current prices start at Rs40,000 for goats and 150,000 for cows, making it an accessible option for middle-class buyers. Meanwhile, the commissioner's office has approved a total of 14 cattle markets across Karachi this year. While citizens have been visiting the markets to purchase animals for Eidul Azha, many are finding the prices exorbitantly high.

Task force proposes ban on rooftop sale for biz gains

1 2 Kolkata: The state task force, which was constituted after the recent Burrabazar fire, on Wednesday recommended that the Bengal govt and civic bodies across the state, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), shouldn't allow the sale of rooftop space for commercial gains. This was discussed at the task force's first meeting held at the KMC headquarters. Mayor and state urban development minister, Firhad Hakim, who attended the meeting, said another meeting on the fire safety issues would be held before a final report in this regard would be submitted to the state Cabinet within a month. The meeting was also attended by state power minister Aroop Biswas, disaster management minister Javed Khan, and panchayat minister Pradeep Majumdar. Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Verma, municipal commissioner Dhaval Jain, and director general of fire services Ranvir Kumar took note of what the task force members discussed at the meeting. "Rooftop should be treated as a fire refuge, and hence we will need to arrive at a decision not to allow the sale of rooftop space anywhere in the state for commercial gains," Hakim added. The task force members also agreed on conducting a third-party fire audit at the commercial and office buildings, including at the vulnerable ones in the city. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo The disaster management department will be asked to train its manpower to ensure the rescue of trapped persons in case of fire, said a member of the task force. RVNL sets ball rolling for Chingrighata underpass

1 2 3 Kolkata: RVNL has started preparing the detailed project report for the three-way underpass at Chingrighata after it got a nod from the KMC. Police had told RVNL traffic blocks at Chingrighata for two weekend nights to bridge the last 366m of the viaduct gap of the Orange Line's Ruby-Sector V section would be granted only after the underpass was built. The implementing agency of the 29km New Garia-Airport Metro corridor is trying to reason that the underpass would take time to be built and involve complex traffic curbs at the crossing. The traffic department noted the ground reality in a compiled 'minutes' of an inspection by police and RVNL engineers: "The construction of the underpass may start in Oct-Nov... Completion is estimated to take six months..." RVNL has been seeking six nights' traffic block at Chingrighata to launch two spans over the crossing to bridge the viaduct gap. Once this 366m work is done, the Orange Line can be extended from Ruby to Sector V. But with the traffic department refusing to hand over the site, girder-launching at Chingrighata has been stalled since Feb 2. Several meetings and inspections later, police told RVNL the underpass was their biggest priority for pedestrian safety at Chingrighata. TOI reported on Feb 15 that the extension of Orange Line till Sector V would be stalled till the work on the Chingrighata underpass got underway. Metro is pleading with the traffic department to reconsider its stand. "The underpass will take around a year. Launching spans over Chingrighata can be done in six nights, over two weekends," a railway official said.

5 cases of jaundice found during survey in Kolhapur

Kolhapur: With the intensity of rain spells increasing and a projected rise in vector-borne and water-borne diseases, the civic body's epidemiology department has started a survey of affected areas through Asha workers. Already, five patients with jaundice have been located in the survey of 145 houses in the Rajarampuri and Shahunagar areas. Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) chief health Officer Dr Vijay Patil said, "A survey of 145 houses was conducted in the affected area by the epidemiology department, in which 595 people were surveyed, and 10 water samples taken for testing." Jaundice is characterised by an increase in the amount of bilirubin in the blood, causing the skin and eyes to turn yellow. If symptoms such as dark urine, fatigue, stomach pain, and loss of appetite appear, it is necessary to seek appropriate treatment as per medical advice. Citizens are urged not to panic and to maintain cleanliness, boil and cool drinking water, exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet. In other measures, KMC additional commissioner Rahul Rokade has instructed officials and departments concerned to inspect all shelter centres in the city and provide necessary lights, water, and other facilities there. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He added, "If water lifting stations are submerged in case of floods, the Shingnapur water supply scheme must be implemented by June.
