No world-class swimming pool in Hong Kong any time soon

A new swimming arena capable of hosting world-class competition was unlikely to be built in Hong Kong any time soon, sources have told the Post, with officials deciding there was no room for a pool near Kai Tak Sports Park. Sung Wong Toi Park, a thin strip of land sandwiched between two major roads in Kowloon, had reportedly been considered for the project, but was later deemed 'not big enough' for an Olympic-sized facility. A government source said while they could build something there 'for what we wish to have, we are not entirely sure we can fit everything – spectator stands and other facilities – in it'. The source added: 'We couldn't quite visualise it happening there for now; maybe we could try squeezing everything in, but there's no conclusion yet.' Hong Kong's leader John Lee Ka-chiu had mentioned the construction of a new pool in each of his past two policy addresses, after local swimming star Siobhan Haughey amassed four medals – two silver and two bronze – at the past two Olympic Games in Tokyo and Paris. From now to July 13, Airside is hosting 'The World of ASMR' exhibition that was at London's Design Museum. This will be the Kai Tak venue's first time collaborating with an international museum since its opening, and we're so excited that it's going to be this special exhibition on the euphoria or calm triggered by sound, touch, and movement. This immersive experience delves into the crackles, pops, feather brushes, whispers, and tappy noises that have become a whole culture and community around the world. Showing over 40 works by contemporary artists, ASMRtists, and designers, the Hong Kong edition also features newly commissioned works by local artists which capture our city's unique auditory identity. The highlight of the show is a sculpture of wavy, bendy pillows woven together to form over a kilometre of squishy comfort, where visitors can lounge while watching various ASMR-related videos. There's even an entire room dedicated to Bob Ross, who many in the community dub the 'Godfather of ASMR'. Don't forget to try your hand at creating your own ASMR noises before you leave! Tickets to this exhibition at Gate33 Gallery cost $30.

Tepid sales at Hong Kong's Uni Residence as competition heats up in new home market

Competition is intensifying in Hong Kong's new residential property market as improved sentiment and declining mortgage rates have prompted developers to offer attractive prices to entice buyers. Advertisement Homebuyers snapped up just 58 of the 100 flats on offer on the first day of sales at Uni Residence in Tai Wai, agents said. Five out of 10 flats offered by tender were also sold, generating about HK$38 million (US$4.8 million). In contrast, Henderson Land's The Henley in Kai Tak sold 78 of 80 units on offer less than four hours after sales began at noon on Saturday, according to agents. The batch, priced at a discount, consisted of 18 open studios, 50 one-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom flats. The lowest-priced one, a 238 sq ft unit, sold for HK$4.62 million, or HK$19,415 per square foot. The developer said one group of buyers bought six units, three groups each acquired three units and seven groups each purchased two units. 'With ample new supplies launching in the market at attractive prices, developers may face competition as homebuyers increasingly consider project quality, supporting facilities and the nearby environment,' said Louis Chan Wing-kit, CEO of Centaline Property Agency. Hong Kong keen to help fragile Manchester United ‘put on a show' in Friday match

Ashley Westwood has said Hong Kong will treat their game against Manchester United on Friday like a training session, with the hosts' priority being to help their illustrious opponents 'put on a show for fans'. United look ripe for the plucking after their timid loss to Asean All-Stars in Malaysia on Wednesday, but Westwood was adamant he harboured no great ambition to inflict more misery on the club he once played for as a youth. Rather, the Englishman said he was content for his team to play the role of 'sparring partners' for stricken United. 'In that we're there to help them put on a good show, not because we're trying to chin anyone,' he clarified. Hong Kong also play Nepal in a friendly next week, before a pivotal Asian Cup qualifier against India at Kai Tak Stadium on June 10. United's Mason Mount takes part in Thursday's open training at Hong Kong Stadium. Photo: Elson Li 'My job is to navigate through these games and peak for India,' Westwood said. Excitement is bubbling up for the Kai Tak clash, with more than 15,000 tickets already sold. Twice that number were expected at Hong Kong Stadium for Manchester United's first visit to the city since 2013.
