BURNT BRIDGES: REAL reason why Kaizer Chiefs fumbled Appollis

Kaizer Chiefs reportedly had a concrete interest in Bafana winger Oswin Appollis before Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates swooped in to secure a deal. Appollis will wear the number 15 jersey at Pirates and have a clear pathway to the first team. Mohau Nkota has left South Africa to sign for Saudi side Al-Ettifaq. Pitso Mosimane's son heads to Italy Orlando Pirates transfers: SEVEN exits, 11 arrivals According to KickOff , Orlando Pirates have landed an almighty coup in signing Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City. The Sea Robbers managed to pay only R12 million for the star winger despite Polokwane having a much larger number in mind. Polokwane chairman Johnny Mogaladi allegedly has a frosty relationship with the Kaizer Chiefs top brass, meaning a deal between the sides was never likely. Chiefs manager Nasreddine Nabi also feels as though new signing Glody Lilepo can provide a better end-product than Appollis, who only managed two goals and an assist from 25 league outings last term. 'Aware that his (Appollis) contract was heading into its last 12 months, Polokwane then agreed to sell him to Pirates. Though the 23-year-old's valuation has been placed at R20 million over the past year, it has been established that he will move to Pirates for 60% of that amount. This places the transfer fee in the region of R12 million.' Miguel's advice to Chiefs youngsters

'They need to continue working hard to continuously improve their game,' said the Chiefs captain. Inacio Miguel has been captain of Kaizer Chiefs on their pre-season tour of the Netherlands. Picture: Backpagepix Kaizer Chiefs central defender Inacio Miguel has warned Amakhosi's crop of talented young players that only hard work will ultimately see them succeed. ALSO READ: Hlongwane hails 'fantastic feeling' after scoring for Chiefs Miguel is in the Netherlands with Chiefs for their pre-season camp, and captained the side in their 1-0 friendly win over PEC Zwolle on Tuesday. Chiefs finally win It was Chiefs' first win of their pre-season tour, with 19 year-old striker Naledi Hlongwane getting the winning goal. Defender Aden McCarthy, left back Kabelo Nkgwesa, and attacking midfielder Thulani Mabaso were other youngsters to feature in the game against Zwolle. 'Naledi has the quality to get far in the game of football. But this is just a start. Scoring has to be a habit of a striker,' Miguel told the Chiefs official website. 'We have a lot of very talented youngsters: Hlongwane, Mabaso, Nkgwesa, McCarthy… However, talent alone is not enough. They need to continue working hard to continuously improve their game. 'Making a mistake is not a problem. But you have to learn from it, to not make that mistake again. Otherwise, it will become a problem. Soccer is all about learning, day in, day out.' While he was pleased with the victory over Zwolle, Miguel pointed out that results are not that important in pre-season. 'The victory was great. However, in pre-season the process comes first, it's not so much about winning. In that process you build the Kaizer Chiefs idea. 'We have seen how our performances improved with each match we played. Meanwhile, we are looking for the foundation, which is needed to do well and be ready when the season starts – for the league, the cup competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup. 'Incorporating the ideas of the coach' 'Pre-season is all about incorporating the ideas of the coach, the new players and then, of course, there are the tactical aspects. Last season, we struggled to get that combination right, even though the process was right. ALSO READ: Why was Rayners snubbed for top PSL Awards? European scouts eye Kaizer Chiefs midfielder after Dutch Tour

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile 'Mshini' Ngcobo could be on the move after impressing scouts during the team's pre-season tour to the Netherlands. The 25-year-old Amakhosi youth product played only seven matches last season after falling down the pecking order. Ngcobo has been one of the few Kaizer Chiefs players who performed well in the Netherlands alongside Thabo Cele and Aden McCarthy. Soccer Laduma reported that scouts were monitoring the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder during the pre-season tour 'The interest was shown while we were in the Netherlands. There were recruiters and scouts from a European team who enquired about Mshini. They were impressed with what they saw. There was nothing much because it was a pre-season camp but they are interested,' the insider told Soccer Laduma . 'It's believed that at first, coach Nabi was not a fan for Nkosingiphile (Ngcobo), but apparently, now he has shown more belief in him and he seems to want to use him more. So, with this interest from Europe, this could mean a change in fortune for him as well (locally),' the second source told the publication. Kaizer Chiefs could lose another midfielder in a space of days after parting ways with captain Yusuf Maart last week. Amakhosi have already signed Ethan Chislett and Siphesihle Ndlovu in the midfield but one feel the club will need Ngcobo's energy in the middle of the park this coming season.
