Nabi must jump ship before it's too late
TOUGH JOB The Phefeni Glamour Boys' nationally respected, iconic brand is too big for Nabi. He ran out of depth earlier in this Premiership Soccer League (PSL), evident in the yo-yo performance of his team, says the writer. If you don't go for what you want, you won't get it. A decade-long hunger and thirst therapy of Kaizer Chiefs supporters and players annexed the Nedbank Cup for the chair, Kaizer Motaung. Coach Nasreddine Nabi did little to nothing in strategising the Khosi's victory against their archrivals, Orlando Pirates, last Saturday. The club was on autopilot. But their fighting and ancestral spirits prevailed. The Phefeni Glamour Boys' nationally respected, iconic brand is too big for Nabi. He ran out of depth earlier in this Premiership Soccer League (PSL), evident in the yo-yo performance of his team. To maintain his pedigree, he'd better jump ship before he's unceremoniously pushed out. A talented chef with a few basic ingredients (players) can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. That's exactly what Chiefs need for a way forward. The ticket fiasco, not to be forgotten, at Moses Mabhida Stadium, illustrated once again the poor governance of the top-flight football league. The FNB Stadium could have been an ideal venue for this derby clash. The PSL chairman, Ivirn Khoza's contribution to the beautiful game is hitherto much appreciated. It's time for him to pass the baton. Politically, the black majority lack representation in this country. Like the Chiefs' die-hard fans and passionate players, the rudderless electorate will answer at the right time through therapies. Liyez'iKhosi, kudos to fired-up players and the club's faithful for cheering their side to silverware that eluded them for ten years! Thami Zwane I Edenvale

Khune urges Chiefs to win Nedbank Cup for Kaizer Motaung
'He's (Kaizer Motaung) aging, and he's invested so much in that team," says the former Chiefs skipper. Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has urged the Amakhosi players to win the Nedbank Cup for club chairman Kaizer Motaung. Amakhosi will lock horns with rivals Orlando Pirates in the final of the competition at a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. ALSO READ: Kaizer Chiefs – the road to the Nedbank Cup final 'Let's hope they will bring their A-plus game come weekend so that they win it for the old man. Eish, Doctor Motaung deserves something. Witnessing your team not lifting a trophy in nine and a half years, it's not nice and you've invested so much in the players, in infrastructure. I think Doctor Motaung deserves to be given that trophy,' said Khune as quoted by SABC Sport. 'Motaung has invested a lot in Chiefs' Khune, who was part of the last generation to win the Nedbank Cup in 2013, has urged the current crop to end the unwanted record of not having won any silverware for the club. 'He's (Kaizer Motaung) aging, and he's invested so much in that team. So, I think the players who are there now must think of writing their names in the history books,' continued Khune. 'I was busy posting on my WhatsApp status, the last time we lifted the Nedbank Cup final. It was me who lifted it but the whole team collectively fought hard to get to the final and win it,' he added. ALSO READ: Orlando Pirates – the road to the Nedbank Cup final 'That's what I wish for the current crop of players to say, you know what? We are sick and tired of hearing about the 2013/14 team that lifted the trophy; now it's our turn. 'It's the same as when you get to Bafana, we'll always be reminded about the 1996 squad that won AFCON. We've had so many opportunities to erase that, unfortunately, things didn't work out,' concluded the Chiefs captain.
