Sharmishta Panoli's arrest: Mamata govt only works for Muslims, claims BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, thanks Kangana Ranaut
BJP leader Agnimitra Paul on Monday condemned the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal for the arrest of social media influencer Sharmista Panoli, who was held by Kolkata Police for allegedly hurting the sentiments of a religious communty. Paul cited recent incidents in West Bengal and said that the TMC government will not spare anyone if they say 'something against Muslims'. But no action will be taken if it is the other way round, she claimed. 'We have seen so many posts from West Bengal lately abusing India, PM Modi, our Goddess Maa Kamakhya, after Operation Sindoor, but no action was taken. It is a clear message from the Mamata government that if you are a Hindu or a Muslim who is abusing or saying something against Muslims, you will not be spared, but if it is the opposite, no action will be taken,' Agnimitra Paul was quoted as saying by ANI. The Bengal BJP leader also thanked Kangana Ranaut and the Delhi Bar Council for standing by Sharmistha Panoli, who was arrested by the Kolkata Police last week from Gurugram. 'I thank the Bar Council and Kangana Ranaut (for standing by Panoli). Every Indian, Hindu and nationalist Muslim must stand against this injustice,' she said. The Bar Council of Delhi on Monday demanded the immediate release of Sharmista Panoli to 'uphold the scale of justice'. Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut also demanded the release of Panoli. 'Harassing someone in the name of law and order is not good,' she had said. Agnimitra Paul urged Hindus in West Bengal to rise, saying that the state needs a 'neutral government'. 'Hindus of West Bengal also need to rise; they are sleeping under the cloud of secularism. We need to have a neutral government. The police of the state today only see a religion.' The BJP leader further claimed that the police did not take any action against Anubrata Mondal, who recently came under fire for reportedly using "derogatory and abusive" language against a police official over a phone call. 'No action was taken against Anubrata Mondal, a TMC leader who abused a police officer. The Mamata government only works for the Muslims, not for Hindus,' she said. Kolkata Police arrested Sharmistha Panoli from Haryana's Gurugram on May 30. She is a law student in Pune, Maharashtra. May 31, Panoli was produced before the Alipore Court in Kolkata, which remanded her in judicial custody for 14 days.

Javed Akhtar says Kangana Ranaut apologised, asked if he will write songs for her next film; he still has a list of people he hates: ‘I have grudge against…'
Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar were all over the news when the two resolved their legal battle through mediation earlier this year. Sharing a picture on her Instagram Stories, Kangana Ranaut said that she resolved her issues with Javed Akhtar. She even shared that the veteran lyricist has even agreed to write songs for her next directorial film. Now, Javed Akhtar has reacted to the news. In an interview with Lallantop, Javed Akhtar recalled his meeting with the Queen actress and said, 'I met her at the court where she wrote me an apology before the judge. She signed on them.' He added, 'I never demanded any money from her. I just demanded an apology, which she did. Even the judge signed on the apology letter. Soon after that, we had a conversation. She asked me, 'Aap meri agli picture mein gaane likhenge? (Will you write songs for my next directorial?)' I was like, 'Kyu nahi likhunga? (Why not?)' Then her lawyer suggested if he could add more things like, 'She respects you very much and you are like her father figure'. I was like, 'Please, don't write all that. I don't want to be a father figure for someone so beautiful.'' Javed Akhtar laughed as he said this. He further shared, 'Now, everything is sorted between us. She even wrote that she will never make such comments against me again. What more do I need? It makes no sense to keep grudge against her. She corrected her mistake and that's all that matters. Now, whenever I will see her, we will meet each other with respect and fondness.' In the same interview, however, Javed said that not all mistakes can be forgiven. He said he has a list of people, who he still dislikes. 'There are a few people who I have not forgiven. I won't reveal their names. I still have grudge against them'. Javed Akhtar filed a defamation case against Kangana Ranaut in 2020 after she alleged that the veteran lyricist forced her to apologise to her Krissh co-star Hrithik Roshan. As a counter-complaint in 2021, Kangana accused Javed Akhtar of calling her and her sister Rangoli Chandel to his house with malafide intentions and ulterior motives. Five years later, Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram Stories to share a picture with the veteran lyricist. She wrote, 'Today Javed ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. In the mediation, Javed ji has been very kind and gracious. He also agreed to write songs for my next directorial.' A month later, Javed Akhtar's wife and actress Shabana Azmi shared her disappointment in press showing it as a mutual settlement, whereas according to her it was her husband's victory, She told Bollywood Hungama, 'They had asked for no monetary compensation but for her apology in writing, The victory is his and his lawyer Jay Bhardwaj's. But, I am mystified why the press made it seem as though it was a mutual settlement but did not mention that it was the apology in writing which he was seeking and why he had fought the case for four and half years.'

Kangana, Kalyan slam West Bengal cops over influencer arrest
File photo VISAKHAPATNAM/DELHI: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut urged TMC government in Bengal "not to try to turn the state into North Korea" while Andhra deputy CM Pawan Kalyan flagged what he termed "selective outrage" as a political row erupted Sunday over 22-year-old social media influencer Sharmishta Panoli's arrest by Bengal police for a controversial video post on Operation Sindoor . Sharmishta, who is studying law, was arrested in Gurgaon on May 30 based on an FIR filed against her in Kolkata's Garden Reach police station, accusing her of "hurting religious sentiments". She has since been remanded in judicial custody in Kolkata until June 13. "Blasphemy must be condemned, always! Secularism isn't a shield for some and a sword for others. It must be a two-way street. Bengal Police, the nation is watching. Act justly for all," Kalyan said in a social media post. "What about the deep, searing pain inflicted upon millions when elected members, MPs of TMC, mock Sanatan Dharma? Where is their apology? Where is their swift arrest? She ( Sharmishta) has acknowledged her mistake, deleted the video and apologised," he said. Kangana, too, stood up for the content creator, saying "harassing someone in the name of law and order is not good". "When someone has apologised and deleted the post, putting her in prison, torturing her, ending her career and raising questions about her character is very wrong," ANI quoted the actor-politician as saying. The Maharashtra University, where Sharmishta studies law, has suspended and barred her from placements.

They said the Kolkata-based girl, in judicial custody till June 13, had issued an unconditional apology and recorded a confession statement with police. The girl's Instagram post reportedly contained "disrespectful and derogatory remarks," targeting a religion, while responding to a post on Operation Sindoor that the Instagrammer claimed was made by a Pakistani national. Hate speech and abusive language should not be misconstrued as freedom of speech & expression as enshrined in Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution." Referring to the timing of the post, police said, "At a time when the whole country stood united and our brave citizens were fighting at the frontier, posting such content. .. is most abominable act... The accused was not arrested for expressing patriotism or personal belief; legal actions were taken for sharing offensive content, which promotes hatred among communities." "We will discuss the legal course of action on Monday. My client already accepted her mistake and sought an apology, but cops arrested her. We said that she gave her confessional statement and submitted her devices to cops. The magistrate acknowledged it and sent her to judicial custody," said the girl's advocate, Mohammad Shamim, who questioned the manner of arrest. He claimed they could have sent her summons on mail and WhatsApp when they could not find her or her family at their Anandapur high-rise. "The family was away and so they couldn't receive the summons. It gave cops the chance to get an arrest warrant and pick her up from her Gurgaon place, where she was with her mother." Police said, "The case was filed under appropriate BNS sections. The case was duly probed and adhering to legal procedures, several attempts were made to serve notice u/s 35 of BNSS to the accused but every time, she was found absconding. So, a warrant of arrest was issued by the court. She was apprehended lawfully from Gurgaon during day time."
