KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a pregnant woman was critically injured in a crash on Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City. According to the Kansas City Police Department, at about 1:25 p.m., officers and emergency responders were called to the area of Westbound Truman Road and Montgall Avenue on reports of an injury crash. WATCH: Second car in 3 months crashes into roof of Excelsior Springs Veterans Hall Investigations revealed that the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox was southbound on Montgall Avenue, toward Truman Road, when the driver entered the intersection from a stop sign and was hit by a Nissan Murano. The driver of the Equinox and the driver of the Nissan were uninjured in the crash, according to KCPD. However, the pregnant front seat passenger of the Equinox suffered critical injuries and was taken to a hospital. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man has been charged in connection with a shooting that left a woman dead in Kansas City earlier this month. According to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson, is facing one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action. WATCH: Second car in 3 months crashes into roof of Excelsior Springs Veterans Hall that on the night of Tuesday, May 13, officers with the Kansas City Police Department were called to a reported shooting near West 37th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, police said they found a woman who had been shot multiple times near a parked Chevrolet Malibu. She was later identified as Layla A. Freeman, who had just turned 21 that same day. According to the KCPD, witnesses told police they heard gunshots and a woman screaming – and saw a man exit the Malibu before running to the driver's side of a Ford Mustang. Court records say detectives were able to identify Turner through city surveillance cameras that showed the Mustang near the scene, as well as text messages and social media exchanges between Turner and Freeman. 21-year-old KC man hospitalized after Memorial Day rollover crash Additionally, previous court records revealed that the victim had filed a temporary order of protection against Turner at the time of the shooting. A judge can issue a temporary order of protection if someone is believed to be in immediate danger. Unlike a restraining order, an order of protection carries criminal penalties for violation. The probable cause statement says Freeman's cousin told investigators that she was on a FaceTime call with Freeman, who said she was planning to meet up with her ex-boyfriend, Turner, on Tuesday, May 13. Freeman allegedly told her cousin that Turner had convinced her to meet with him because he had a birthday present for her. About an hour and a half after the first FaceTime call, the cousin said she called Freeman again. According to the probable cause statement, the cousin told investigators that Freeman appeared to be crying on the second FaceTime call. Freeman told her cousin that she was still with Turner and that she would have to call her back. But she never did. Turner is currently being held without bond in the Jackson County Detention Center. Two vehicles hit pedestrian in midtown Kansas City; one driver fled

A pedestrian was in the hospital with critical injuries after being struck by two vehicles, one that fled the scene, early Sunday in Kansas City's midtown area, a police spokeswoman said. The hit-and-run crash occurred shortly after midnight near Linwood Boulevard and Campbell Street in the North Hyde Park neighborhood, said Officer Alyana Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department. A preliminary investigation revealed that a driver in a gray Toyota was headed east on Linwood from Charlotte Street and hit a pedestrian in the middle of the street, causing him to fall into the westbound lanes, Gonzalez said. A few seconds later, the driver of a dark-colored Jeep hit the pedestrian and left the scene of the crash. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene. Police do not suspect that the Toyota's driver was impaired.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is in the hospital with critical injuries after a Tuesday night crash in the Northland, the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) reported. According to KCPD, at about 10:20 p.m., officers and emergency responders were called to a crash near Westbound 152 Highway and Northwest Hampton Road. Investigations revealed that the driver of a Mercedes had been speeding westbound on the highway when it drove off the left side of the road. Woman shot and killed in Midtown Tuesday night, police say The driver then overcorrected and crossed both lanes of traffic, crashing on the right side of the highway and stopping in the tree line. The passenger of the Mercedes was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, while the driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. At this time, the driver is being investigated for DUI.
