The defender joined the Ibrox club on loan from Feyenoord last summer. Rangers possess an option to buy the 23-year-old, although it doesn't look like that will be taken up after he took to social media. Read more: Indeed, yesterday, Kasanwirjo wrote on Instagram: "Wore the shirt with pride, even when injury kept me off the pitch. "Thank you for the trust, support and memories, Rangers family." Kasanwirjo made just 15 Rangers appearances last season as he was ravaged by injury. The Dutchman missed 34 games due to a knee issue. A versatile defender, he will now return to Feyenoord ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, with vast changes anticipated at Rangers. The club are still on the hunt for a new permanent manager after Philippe Clement's dismissal in February. Barry Ferguson took interim charge of the team following the Belgian's departure, although it was confirmed just over a week ago that he won't be getting the gig long-term. Davide Ancelotti, son of legendary Real Madrid boss Carlo, has been named in connection with the job: "Davide is currently in negotiations with a European team, and it didn't seem right to bring him in," said Ancelotti Sr on Monday evening after being unveiled as the new Brazil boss. "If he goes to a club, I wish him the best, and if not, he can come back to us."

Rangers star bids emotional farewell to club as he tells fans ‘thank you for the memories'

Six big names have left Rangers after the end of the season NANA GOODBYE Rangers star bids emotional farewell to club as he tells fans 'thank you for the memories' RANGERS bid farewell to a host of first team stars last week. Now, one of those players has appeared to confirm he WON'T be returning to the club on a permanent basis. It followed the conclusion of a highly disappointing season for the Ibrox side but also comes before the arrival of a major new era for the Light Blues. Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises' takeover will be completed in due course, while a new manager is close to being appointed. So it very much appears to be a clean break for all concerned at Ibrox. Advertisement That break saw the exits of those key first team players last week. Big names Ianis Hagi, Leon Balogun and Tom Lawrence have all left after their contracts came to an end. Rangers also said goodbye to three loan players, Vaclav Cerny, Neraysho Kasanwirjo and Rafael Fernandes. Dutch defender Kasanwirjo joined on a season-long loan from Feyenoord last season. Advertisement Once he got his chance, he impressed but a devastating knee injury suffered on international duty late last year wrecked his campaign. The 23-year old did regain his fitness in time to make a return before the end of the season but it appears it was too late for him to earn a permanent switch. What does Rangers takeover mean for the club - finance expert speaks out Rangers' deal with Feyenoord included an option to make the move permanent this summer - but given the message Kasanwirjo has shared on social media, it appears that almost certainly WON'T be being triggered. Netherlands under-21 international Kasanwirjo took to Instagram and delivered what appears to be a final farewell to the Ibrox club. Advertisement Alongside a series of pictures of his time with the Gers, he said: "Wore the shirt with pride, even when injury kept me off the pitch. "Thank you for the trust, support and memories. "Rangers family 💙" Meanwhile, incoming Gers supremo Cavenagh is reportedly on his way to Europe to take a leading role in the club's manager search. Advertisement According to reports, the US health insurance tycoon will beet boss contenders Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin this week. The boss search has been led by Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart, new sporting director Kevin Thelwell and key 49ers figure Gretar Steinsson until now. Former Real Madrid assistant manager Ancelotti remains the odds-on favourite for the job but SunSport exclusively revealed on Monday night that Martin was very much still in the frame for the job. 3 The defender appears to have said a final goodbye to the club Credit: INSTAGRAM Advertisement Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Rangers announce six first-team departures including Hagi and Cerny

Rangers have confirmed six first-team departures as they begin planning for next season. Three out-of-contract players – Ianis Hagi, Tom Lawrence, and Leon Balogun – are leaving for pastures new, while loan stars Vaclav Cerny, Rafael Fernandes, and Neraysho Kasanwirjo are returning to their parent clubs. Rangers confirmed the news on Tuesday. Balogun had earlier announced on social media that his second spell had come to an end. He made over 100 appearances for the Ibrox side over two spells between 2020-2022 and 2023-2025. Hagi joined from Belgian side Genk in 2020 and has scored 20 goals in 130 appearances during an injury-hit five-year spell that also included a period on loan at Spanish side Alaves. Wales international Lawrence signed for Rangers in 2022 and has scored 11 goals in 65 appearances. Cerny and Kasanwirjo joined on loan last summer. Czech winger Cerny became a fan favourite following a string of impressive performances while Kasanwirjo's campaign was hampered by a long-term injury. Fernandes joined in January but has been unable to make an impact in the first-team. Rangers' Kasanwirjo speaks on return from injury

The 23-year-old defender, who joined the club on loan from Feyenoord in the summer, scored in Rangers B's Glasgow Cup final victory over Celtic B at Firhill as he continues to build his fitness ahead of a long-awaited return to first-team football. Kasanwirjo limped off during an U23s game for the Netherlands against England in November, and says he is thrilled to be back on the pitch. The Dutchman told the club website: 'It was good, I really enjoyed it. It had been a serious injury, and I hadn't played a game for a long time, so it was great. Read more: 'It was decided before the game that I would play 45 minutes, and it was a good period to start with and I feel good. It was very special to get a goal too. Paul [Nsio] said to me before the game that I was going to score, and he was so happy for me! 'I had never been part of that group, but I trained for a bit with them during the week and I see some of them when they train with the first-team. It was a good group, and they managed to win the cup for the second time in a row, so it was a good night for everybody.' As he left the pitch during the 1-1 draw with England, Kasanwirjo says he knew immediately his injury was serious. 'When I made the twist, I already knew it was not good,' he said. 'I had the surgery, and it all went well and now I am where I am, so I am happy. About five years ago I had an injury but it was not like this with the surgery, so it was more difficult for me to deal with. After five months on the sidelines with a knee injury, Neraysho Kasanwirjo returned to action on Tuesday night with @RFC_Youth in the Glasgow Cup at Firhill. I had a lot of contact with the physio in Holland and the physios and doctors at Rangers so they both really supported me. 'When I got back to Glasgow, I was almost fit and that was difficult because even though I was feeling good, I still couldn't train. When I saw the guys going outside to train and I had to train alone it was hard. 'They were coming in and getting ready to play games and I had to watch from the side, all I wanted to do was play but they all really helped me a lot and now I am happy to be on the way back. 'I hope I can play some minutes in the remaining games, it is up to the gaffer, but I will do what I can and keep working hard.'
