A Makeup Artist's Easy Tips to Make Lips Look Fuller, Naturally
You may be noticing a change in your lips as you age, or find yourself looking back and seeing once fuller lips that seem to have shrunk. Lips, generally, tend to become thinner and less full as we get older. That's all down to the science of our bodies, as there's a decrease in collagen and elastin production with age. Collagen and elastin are key proteins that provide elasticity and vital skin structure, and as we age, our bodies produce less of these proteins, and that in turn leads to a loss in firmness and declining volume in the lips and skin.
Fear not. Makeup artist Katey Denno, who paints the faces of Amanda Seyfried, Sadie Sink, and Quannah Chasinghorse, has some simple tricks to create the affect of fuller lips. At almost 50 years old, Denno highlights exactly how she keeps her lips looking plump—no filler necessary. She posted a video to Instagram of her total routine.
Denno swipes on a layer of 'new on the scene indie beauty brand' Aora's solid lip serum in the nude pink shade 'Rosa.' The Mexican beauty brand's lipstick leaves a juicy sheen and gloss-like finish. Here, you can see how important it is to use a hydrating lip product from the get go to maximise the expanse of your lips.
She then accentuates her cupid's bow with a similar hued lip liner from Mob Beauty to give her lips some of the lost height back, and defines the bottom similarly. Keeping to natural shades and tracing and edging out the true shape of her lips—as Denno says, everyone has asymmetrical lips—you can create natural looking fuller lips.

As a bonus, both brands Denno uses are sustainable.
If you're looking for other ways to improve the look of your pout, look to lip plumpers; these glosses temporarily enhance the appearance of fuller lip using tingly ingredients like chilli pepper or capsicum, paired with hydrating heroes like shea butter and hyaluronic acid.
For more mature skin too, you'll want to focus on hydration all-rounders, staying away from products and ingredients that might cake or sit dry on the skin. Think instead: hydrating face bases and eye creams, radiance-boosting blushes, subtle bronzers, solid skin prep, and light finishing powders.
Test out Denno's tips, and you might start hearing: 'Did you get filler?' 'Is that a lip flip?'
