Keke Palmer's Money Comments Spark Divide

Keke Palmer has long been open about living below her means. Of course, Keke has been in the acting industry for decades, having landed her role at age 10. She starred in a bunch more movies and TV shows throughout her childhood and adolescence, perhaps most notably playing the lead role in the Nickelodeon series True Jackson, VP. Six years after becoming the breadwinner of her family and having a business manager to help manage her finances, Keke once had to file for bankruptcy at age 18. 'I was so spooked. I was like, 'What went wrong?'' she recalled last year, before opening up about deciding to live well below her means going forward. And now, Keke has discussed her finances once again, telling CNBC that she finds it 'incredibly important' to live frugally. 'I live under my means. I think it's incredibly important,' she said. 'If I have $1 million in my pocket, my rent is going to be $1,500 — that's how underneath my means I'm talking. My car note is going to be $340. I don't need a [Bentley], I'll ride in a Lexus.' Numerous internet users have since praised Keke's mentality. 'This is EXACTLY how I'd be living too if I was rich. That's how you stay rich longer! There is zero reason I need a house with 14 rooms and 10 bathrooms,' one person wrote. 'It's smart, lots of celebs have gone broke and been left with high cost of living condos and mansions they could no longer afford,' someone else said. However, while many fans presumed that Keke was hyperbolically saying that she's not blowing her money with ridiculous spending, some argued that her rent example felt 'disingenuous' and accused her of 'trying to be relatable.' Last year, Keke listed her NYC penthouse for just under $3 million, and a few months ago, she listed another $1.4 million studio city home; per Architectural Digest, she currently resides in a $5 million property in California. 'This quote makes me think she is more disconnected from reality than had she said nothing at all,' one person wrote in response to her comments. 'I just googled and she's had multiple million plus dollar properties,' someone else pointed out. Several people defended Keke, arguing that she was simply 'giving an example of what she'd pay in rent relative to her wealth.' However, others pointed out: 'Given income inequality and crazy prices for rent, folks are extra sensitive to a rich celebrity speaking about how to save or live.' Let me know what you think in the comments.

‘We Was Already Over Boo' – Keke Palmer Opens Up About Her Ex & Viral Night In Vegas In Her Newest Track

Black America Web Featured Video CLOSE Source: Aeon / Getty Keke Palmer has always been one to keep it real—and now she's putting it all into song. On May 9, the multi-hyphenate star dropped a teaser for her latest release, 'My Confessions,' and it's already got fans talking. In the track, Keke gets personal, unpacking her emotions from one of the most viral nights of her life. Yes, the one centered on an Usher concert in Vegas and the public fallout with her ex and her son's father, Darius Jackson. But the song doesn't seem like another breakup anthem, but a moment to set the record straight. And for many of us navigating relationships, motherhood, and ambition, it hits home. RELATED: Keke Palmer And Darius Jackson Hang Out For Her 30th Birthday In the Instagram reel promoting the track, Keke pairs moody visuals with emotional lyrics, including screenshots of social media headlines, a fictitious courtroom, and what appears to be real text messages from that chaotic time. She doesn't shy away from the truth. She leans in. 'This one is personal,' she wrote in her caption. 'Sometimes the closure we need doesn't come from a conversation—it comes from being honest with ourselves.' The lyrics lay it bare: 'Summer 23 we was in Vegas right… Forty-eight hours later, online made me a villain for sympathy. But you lied. But the truth is in Vegas we was already over boo.' Whew. Let's not forget that Keke addressed the moment before, clapping back with a whole music video with Usher ('Boyfriend'), in which she flipped the narrative with humor and style. But 'My Confessions,' reminiscent of her friend Usher's 'Confessions,' feels different. RELATED: It's Over: Sources Say Keke Palmer And Darius Jackson Split It's vulnerable and grown. Written with Keke's best friend Tayla Parx, the song is another reminder of why Keke remains that girl. A new mom, a successful actress, a singer, an author, a producer, a podcast host, and a walking blueprint for doing it all, the Big Boss is showing us what it means to be soft and strong, public and private , all at once. As she said herself, she's 'not here to play perfect.' She's here to be Keke. And that's more than enough. Hear the full song and watch the video below. Drag Him Or Dragging It? Keke Palmer Drops Diss Song On Ex

Black America Web Featured Video CLOSE Derek White A relationship can serve as the best material for lyrics to a love song, and the dissolution of said union can result in one banger of a diss track. For singer/actress Keke Palmer, the latter proved to be her choice of weapon in the latest chapter of her highly-publicized breakup with ex-boyfriend and baby daddy, Darius Jackson. Keke just released a new single titled 'My Confession,' which not only airs out all of their worst moments in melodic detail but does so over an obvious Usher sample as a slick nod to the controversial concert moment that sparked it all. RELATED: Darius Daulton Blasts Keke Palmer's Booty Butt Cheeks Fit After Usher Serenaded Her 'This one is personal,' Keke wrote about the song in the caption to a promo post (seen above) that went up across her social accounts, which further states, ''My Confession' is exactly what it sounds like—me giving voice to the feelings I buried. Sometimes the closure we need doesn't come from a conversation—it comes from being honest with ourselves. That's what this song is. My peace. My clarity. My way of letting go.' She wrote the song with fellow singer/songwriter Tayla Parx as she went on to add, which puts even more emphasis on this being one of Keke's most personal bodies of work to date. What's interesting though seems to be her relentlessness in dragging Darius through the mud, which we've been seeing hints of since the August 2023 release of Usher's music video for 'Boyfriend' that features Keke and ends with her coyly stating with a wink, 'I'm a mother, after all.' A temporary restraining order followed in November 2023, then a tell-all exclusive with People Magazine in October 2024, a memoir in November 2024 and a cover story with The Cut back in January — each moment adding a new detail to the relationship's end. 'My Confession' looks to the coup de grâce, but does it come off as taking the situation a bit too far or is there really no end to the fury of a woman scorned? Take a look at some of the reactions to Keke Palmer's new single, 'My Confession,' and let us know if you think it's a proper diss to a no-good ex or are you ready to be taken out of their group chat: Keke Palmer better than me bc if my baby daddy texted me this, i would've went home with Usher too tf 😭 Keke Palmer better than me bc if my baby daddy texted me this, i would've went home with Usher too tf 😭 — spicebae (@spicebae_) May 9, 2025 So he broke up with Keke before the Usher post went viral and tried to make her out to be the villain?? Keke Palmer Is Facing Criticism For Having Jonathan Majors On Her Podcast

Warning: Discussion of domestic violence. Keke Palmer is facing criticism for interviewing Jonathan Majors on her podcast Baby, This Is Keke Palmer. In 2023, Jonathan was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of harassment against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The ex-Marvel actor pled not guilty and subsequently said in an interview that he was responsible for "none of her injuries." He has been back in the public eye in recent weeks amid the release of his movie Magazine Dreams, even starring on the cover of the Hollywood Reporter. In the accompanying interview, he said of his time during and after the trial, "It's a heartbreak like I've never experienced and it just compounded and compounded." Matthew McConaughey, Michael B. Jordan, and Whoopi Goldberg all further voiced their support. Shortly after the cover dropped, audio leaked that allegedly revealed Jonathan admitting to strangling Grace. "I can't speak to it, but obviously, because you're talking about it, there are vibrations, reverberations, same as everything before," Jonathan said in response. "I'm living life. I'm surrounded by loved ones and family." And now, Jonathan will add Keke to his list of new interviewers. The episode, which is available now to Wondery+ users and will be released to the public on April 8, is titled, "No Easy Answers: Accountability and Moving Forward with Jonathan Majors." The episode description reads, "Accountability. It's a loaded word, right? We're living in a time where we want real accountability—especially for things men have gotten away with for far too long. At the same time, finding forgiveness feels harder than ever, and we're still figuring out what true accountability even looks like." "Today, we're sitting down with Jonathan Majors to talk about what life has looked like after being convicted of harassment and assault. This conversation isn't here to give you all the answers—it's complicated, it's messy—but hopefully, it brings us a little closer to understanding the complex emotional landscape of the time we're living through," it concludes. But some did suggest that Keke might use the opportunity to thoroughly question Jonathan: A clip further resurfaced of her talking about R Kelly in 2016, where she said, "Stop with the grooming. I don't know this side of Kells. The side of Kells I know is a musical genius." The singer has since been convicted of child sex crimes. Keke herself has said that she experienced domestic violence during her relationship with the father of her son, Darius Jackson (he has denied the allegations). She was previously granted a temporary restraining order against him. We'll keep you posted on whether Keke addresses the controversy. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger as a result of domestic violence, call 911. For anonymous, confidential help, you can call the 24/7 National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (SAFE) or chat with an advocate via the website.
