KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department arrested 17 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh through Ops Serkap in Kota Bharu on Sunday (May 18). Its director Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the operation, which began at 4pm, involved 15 officers and members of the state immigration enforcement division. "Acting on intelligence, our party inspected foreigners around Pengkalan Chepa here, namely two houses around Taman Seri, a house in Batu 6 Tok Kaya and a kongsi in Mukim Pulau Gajah. "All the foreigners from Bangladesh are aged between 19 and 40 and have been sent to the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation," he said in a statement on Monday (May 19). He said 14 immigrants were suspected of infringing Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while three other immigrants believed to be agents are being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) 2007. - Bernama

Kelantan Immigration expands operating hours for border pass counters

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department has announced a revised operating schedule for counter services handling border pass applications at all its offices across the state. According to a posting on the department's official Facebook page, the new operating hours take effect from today. It stated that counters will now operate from 8am to 7pm, Sunday to Thursday. Previously, the counters operated from 8am-5pm . "The final acceptance of payments will be at 6.30pm," the department said. The department added that the adjustment is part of ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery and improve public convenience, in line with the government's commitment to more efficient and people-centric public services. The revised schedule applies uniformly across all Immigration offices in Kelantan. For further updates, the public is advised to follow the department's official social media channels via @Jimkelantan. It is understood that many Malaysians, particularly Kelantanese, are applying for border passes in preparation for the upcoming school holidays beginning May 29.

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Immigration Department has busted a migrant smuggling syndicate following the arrest of 41 individuals, including seven children, during an integrated operation in Kampung Kubang Sepat, Pasir Mas. Its director Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the operation, which began at 5.30am, was carried out by the Immigration Border Intelligence Unit in collaboration with the Special Tactical Team from the Intelligence and Special Operations Division of Immigration headquarters in Putrajaya. 'The raid was the result of a two-week intelligence operation conducted by the team, which led to the arrest of 41 individuals, comprising 35 illegal immigrants from Myanmar, including two boys and five girls. 'The arrested immigrants were aged between three and 53 years old, while six local men, suspected of acting as transporters and caretakers of transit houses, were also detained,' he said. Mohamed Yusoff Khan said authorities also seized five vehicles, namely a four-wheel drive, a sports utility vehicle, a sedan and two motorcycles, believed to have been used in smuggling activities. The total estimated value of the vehicles is RM300,000, Bernama reported. 'Cash amounting to RM820 and 10,000 Thai baht was also seized,' he said.
