Former Saints goalkeeper joins Eastleigh after release this summer

GOALKEEPER Josh McNamara has joined National League side Eastleigh following his release by Saints this summer. McNamara will link up with Saints goalkeeping legend Kelvin Davis at the Silverlake Stadium, having agreed terms with the Spitfires. The 21 year old former Manchester City academy prospect spent two seasons in Southampton's under-21s, and helped them reach the Premier League 2 play-off final. They suffered a 2-0 defeat against his former side in the final, which turned out to be McNamara's final appearance for Saints. Upon the arrival of the shot-stopper, manager Davis said: 'We've had a number of trialists in this position and we're looking for character first and someone that's hungry to improve. READ: Saints defender Davis to be managed by dad Kelvin during Eastleigh loan "Josh comes in with a fantastic pedigree, having come out of a great academy and having ties with Manchester City too. "He's got ability, he's keen, and he's come in and excelled, so we're really pleased to have him on board." McNamara is no stranger to National League football, having spent time on loan at St Albans in the National League South during the 2023/24 season. He will compete for the number one spot with former Newport County and Antigua and Barbuda international Nick Townsend.

Eastleigh sign former Shrewsbury, Wycombe and Northampton defender

EASTLEIGH have announced the signing of experienced defender Aaron Pierre following his departure from Shrewsbury Town. The Spitfires fought off interest from EFL clubs to land the 32 year old centre-back, who has made nearly 350 appearances across League One and League Two. Pierre also adds international experience to Kelvin Davis' promotion hunting squad, having represented Grenada over 15 times. He arrives at the Silverlake Stadium as Eastleigh's eighth signing of the season and made 33 appearances in League One last season. 'I spoke to the manager for a good few weeks and got really good vibes from him and good communication in terms of what we're trying to do as a club," Pierre said. 'I want to make sure I give (the fans) 110% and make sure we perform as well as we can throughout the season. "I want them to see that I came here because I see the vision of where the club is trying to go.' Manager Davis commented added: 'I'm really pleased. It's a position that we've been chasing for a little while in terms of the profile of player to fit what we want to do. 'He has a track record of being a real competitor and has the attributes to really push us on. "So Aaron comes and joins a group of hungry lads that want to kick on and win football matches. Pierre began his professional career at Brentford, signing his first senior contract in 2012. Following a loan move, he joined Wycombe Wanderers permanently in 2014, going on to make over 120 appearances. In 2017, Pierre moved to Northampton Town, where he made 60 appearances and earned the club's Player of the Season award for the 2017/18 campaign. His performances attracted interest from higher up the pyramid, and he joined Shrewsbury Town in 2019. Across three seasons, he made more than 90 appearances and was once again named Player of the Season in his first year at the club. Pierre later had spells with Sutton United and AFC Wimbledon, before returning to Shrewsbury Town in 2023. Internationally, Pierre has been capped several times for Grenada, including appearances in the Concacaf Gold Cup, adding international pedigree to his profile.

Nick Townsend leaves League Two Newport County for Eastleigh

The 30-year-old goalkeeper entered negotiations with the Exiles at the end of last season but opted for a fresh challenge after seven years at Rodney Parade. The Antigua & Barbuda international, who racked up 209 appearances to become a County great, will now drop out of the Football League to play for the Spitfires. Eastleigh finished 13th out of 24 in the National League last season and Townsend will play under a boss who is a former goalkeeper, former Southampton, Wimbledon and Ipswich stopper Kelvin Davis. It is fair to assume that the contract length and financial package made the move to the south coast more attractive than staying in League Two on fresh County terms for stalwart Townsend. Arguably the Exiles are only still in the fourth tier thanks to his performances, particularly in a vital run of wins in February. LEGEND: Goalkeeper Nick Townsend passed 200 appearances for County (Image: Kian Abdullah/Huw Evans Agency) 'I'm glad it's all done now and it's an exciting start for me and my family to have a fresh start down here,' said the Brummie, who made the second most amount of saves in the EFL last season behind Stoke's Viktor Johansson. Townsend faced Eastleigh twice in 2024 when County earned a shot at Manchester United in the FA Cup by winning a replay at Silverlake Stadium 3-1 after a 1-1 draw at Rodney Parade. County currently have just one goalkeeper, Jacob Carney, on the books after the departures of Townsend and Lewis Webb, who failed to make an appearance after arriving midway through last season as back-up. Carney struggled when he got chances in his first season in Newport and the Exiles are closing in on a new stopper, who is likely to be first choice. 'Manager David Hughes has been prioritising a replacement and the club has already agreed personal terms with a new number one, due to be announced in due course,' said a County statement when confirming Townsend's exit. The Exiles are still in negotiations with three experienced players over fresh terms – centre-back James Clarke, midfielder Aaron Wildig and full-back/midfielder Shane McLoughlin.

Professional boxer Keyshawn Davis caught in backstage brawl after brother's unexpected loss

Professional boxer Keyshawn Davis was involved in a backstage altercation with the man who defeated his brother in a bout on Saturday night at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia. The Davis family, which includes junior welterweight Kelvin and welterweight Keon, is from the area, and it was expected to be a great night of boxing and celebration. However, after Kelvin was upset by Nahir Albright in their co-main event fight, Keon and Keyshawn both got involved in an altercation with Albright backstage. The altercation was caught on video as broadcast cameras captured a large skirmish that led to Albright getting banged up. Albright showed up to this post-fight press conference with notable facial wounds that weren't seen in the ring after the fight with Kelvin. Albright alleges that he was "jumped" by Keyshawn and Keon backstage after his victory against Kelvin. "They started walking up to me all tough, putting his head against mine, and then grabbed me," Albright told ESPN. "Then I was about to swing, but my team and everybody, they grabbed Keyshawn and everything, and it was crazy." Albright noted during his scrum with reporters that he hasn't decided with his team if he will be pressing any legal charges. Kelvin posted to social media on Sunday to apologize to Albright for the altercation, where he denied his brothers "jumped" him. "On behalf of DB3, we apologize for conducting ourselves in that way tension was high and emotions got the best of us we will be back and better and more professional its ups and downs with this and we gone take what comes with it.... With that being said WE DIDNT JUMP NOBODY," Davis said in his social media statement. There is some history between Albright and Keyshawn, the latter winning by unanimous decision the last time they fought in 2023. But the decision was overturned to a no-contest after Keyshawn tested positive for marijuana. Before the altercation, Keyshawn was already having a bad weekend despite being home. He missed weight and was stripped of his WBO lightweight title belt, as his main event bout with Edwin De Los Santos was canceled.
