Cocaine and cannabis worth €170,000 seized in late-night garda raid in Kerry

Cocaine and cannabis worth an estimated €170,000 were seized in a Kerry town last night. Gardaí intercepted a car in Listowel shortly after 10pm on Friday and seized the drugs. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested at the scene. Approximately four and a half kilos of cannabis and one kilo of cocaine were recovered by gardaí. The cannabis was stored in clear, plastic, vacuum-sealed bags. The cocaine was wrapped and stored in a vacuum-sealed FoodSaver bag. A drawing of a pink monkey with its hands covering its eyes appeared on the front of the cocaine package. The man who was arrested is currently being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a garda station in Co. Kerry. Gardaí from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit and the local Crime Unit carried out the seizure, and the drugs will now be sent for analysis to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI). Approximately €150,000 worth of drugs were seized after searches in commercial premises including Killarney, Tralee, Killorglin and Listowel. This include psychoactive substances, cannabis edibles/vapes and cannabis. The seized drugs will be sent for analysis to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI). Two men were arrested during the operation but now have been released. The Kerry drug operation was part of Operation Tara aimed at disrupting drug operations in the country.

Gardaí have arrested two men after seizing psychoactive substances and cannabis totalling €150,000. Gardaí from the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a number of searches at commercial premises in Tralee, Listowel, Killarney and Killorgin, Co. Kerry on Wednesday, May 7 as part of ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs. During the operation, psychoactive substances, cannabis edibles, cannabis vapes and cannabis to the value of €150,000 have been seized. The seized drugs will be sent for analysis to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI). Two men in their 50s have been arrested and conveyed to Garda Stations in County Kerry. They are currently being detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. A Garda spokesperson said that investigations are ongoing. This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021. The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
