Janmashtami Special Recipes: Celebrate Lord Krishna's birthday with 10 delicious bhog recipes. From Makhan Mishri to Kheer, offer love and tradition through every sacred bite. Janmashtami Bhog Recipes 2025: Janmashtami, also called Gokulashtami, celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna and is observed with great devotion across India. Homes and temples are decorated, devotional songs fill the air, and the birth of the beloved deity is marked at midnight with special prayers. A key part of the celebrations is preparing bhog, food offerings made with love and devotion for Krishna before being shared as prasad with family and devotees. This year, Janmashtami falls on Saturday, August 16, as per Drik Panchang. Known as Makhan Chor (butter thief), Krishna's childhood love for butter and curd inspires many of the dishes prepared during the festival. While some devotees create the elaborate chappan bhog of 56 items, you can still honour the tradition with a few simple recipes.
