Nicole Kidman Reveals What Her New Wig Says About Masha in 'Nine Perfect Strangers' Season 2

The new season of Nine Perfect Strangers is treating us to a number of things: huge plot twists, an A-list cast, and a new Nicole Kidman wig. In season 1, Kidman's character Masha sports long, flowing locks that made headlines when the show premiered in 2021. But as season 2 travels to the Austrian Alps, Masha is now rocking a sharp, fringed bob. The hairstyle denotes a darker, sharper side to Masha, as Kidman herself explained to Variety. 'Everything is very specific. It's chosen for a reason because she's got very strong intentions and agendas,' the actress said. The second season finds Masha in a fictional resort, Zauberwald, where a new group of strangers come to find wellness and healing under her questionable methods. When Kidman was shown options by her hairdresser and makeup artists Noriko Watanabe, she only had to see one wig. 'It's very quick,' Kidman said. 'We just came up with the character and vibe, how she should be and what she should look for.' The actor also told Variety she was thrilled to have 'free rein' this season, as the story wasn't based on a book like the first season, which was based on Liana Moriarty's novel. She added it was 'fun to play' a woman with power. 'So many times, I play women that are in a very precarious place emotionally and Masha is just a badass.' Kidman previously spoke to ELLE about supporting women behind the camera too. 'I'm surrounded by great women and I understand all the aspects of different women, because we have so many women in our family,' she said. 'I feel very, very safe and very at home.'

Christine Baranski shares why Nicole Kidman kept distance on Nine Perfect Strangers set

Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. They may be Nine Perfect Strangers on screen, but behind the scenes the new cast of the drama series are anything but. Christine Baranski joins Nicole Kidman along with a star-studded line-up for season two, including Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding, The White Lotus star Murray Bartlett, and Schitt's Creek star Annie Murphy. But while the cast bonded during the six months they filmed in the snowy Austrian Alps, in a case of life imitating art, Kidman kept her distance on the series, which is now streaming on Prime Video. Picture:MORE: Kidman forced to 'apologise' to her neighbours The Aussie actress reprises her role as Masha Dmitrichenko, a Russian wellness guru who uses unconventional and questionable methods to treat her guests as the fictional health retreat Zauberwald Although Masha is sociable and people are drawn to her, she is equally complex and enigmatic – and it appears Kidman maintained this persona off-screen too. 'We bonded, the nine of us. And when [Kidman] would come in, it was sort of exactly like it would be in the show, which is she comes in and we're all, what's she all about? What's she going to do? And so the chemistry was sort of exactly right for it,' Baranski, 73, told Baranski and Kidman are joined by Henry Golding, Mark Strong and Aussie actor Murray Bartlett in the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers. Picture: Prime Video 'She's rather perfect for that role. The character of Masha is so mysterious and has her own backstory that's very, very complicated and interesting. And Nicole is really tall and statuesque, and her look in this show, I think, is particularly arresting. So she's just perfect for this inscrutable, intimidating character.' Baranski plays glamorous divorcee Victoria on the series. Picture: Prime Video Victoria's much younger boyfriend Matteo is played by Aras Aydın (centre). Picture: Prime Video Still, there was nothing that could keep Baranski away from the show or Kidman. 'It's such a no-brainer. My agent said it was Nicole Kidman and the second season of Strangers, which was already an established hit. Then he mentioned the talent that they were offering roles to various actors, and they were all extraordinary people. And then he said that it was going to film in Europe, in Munich and the Austrian Alps,' the Mamma Mia star shared. In season two, Baranski plays the glamorous and sensual Victoria, who enlists the help of Masha to repair her relationship with her daughter Imogen (played by Murphy). While they play an estranged mother-and-daughter duo, off-screen Murphy adored Baranski. Canadian actress Annie Murphy plays Baranski's on-screen daughter Imogen. Picture: Valerie Macon/AFP 'She is the hostess with the mostest and she's so generous. Anytime she'd go away [from set], she'd come back with cakes and treats and all these things for us,' Murphy told 'We were staying in this town called Halstadt in Austria, which is this beautiful fairytale town around this alpine lake. And we're staying in this beautiful hotel and the hotel backed onto the lake. 'Christine arranged this evening for us, and the sun was just setting and we walked out and there was champagne and beautiful tables set up. She'd curated this incredible classical playlist for us that was kind of echoing across this still, beautiful lake. And it was just magical.' Kidman and Baranski (back left) with the cast at the season two premiere in Beverly Hills. Picture:In the series, there is also magic between Baranski's Victoria and her much younger lover Matteo (played by Aras Aydın). There seems to be a chorus of age-gap romances playing out on screens across Hollywood lately, but Baranski says there is nothing salacious about this May-December romance. 'It was very easy because Aras is so emotionally free and available and he's beautiful and so passionate. We didn't have to work at that [chemistry],' she said. 'As you can see from early on in the first few episodes, it's not just some sexy older woman-hot guy relationship. There's an enormous kind of tenderness and caretaking and loveliness between us. 'We valued bringing that out more than the sexy part because it's transcends age. People can love each other long after they feel sexy or hot for each other. The tenderness and the intimacy is what is most lasting and interesting.' Nicole Kidman Reveals What Her New Bob Wig Says About Masha In 'Nine Perfect Strangers' Series Two

With a new series of Nine Perfect Strangers we're treated to a number of things — huge plot twists, an A-list cast, and a new Nicole Kidman wig. In the first series of Nine Perfect Strangers Kidman's character Masha sports long, flowing hair that in itself made headlines when the series was released in 2021. But as the show travels to the Austrian Alps in its second outing, we find Masha sporting a sharp, fringed bob. FIND OUT MORE ON ELLE COLLECTIVE Reminiscent of her Paddington character Millicent, the bob denotes a darker, sharper side to Masha - as Kidman herself explained to Variety. Speaking to Variety at the premiere of season two, Kidman talked about Masha's new bob, saying: 'Everything is very specific. It's chosen for a reason because she's got very strong intentions and agendas.' The show finds Masha in a fictional resort, Zauberwald, where a new bunch of strangers come to find wellness and healing under her mostly questionable methods. And when she was shown options by her hairdresser and makeup artists Noriko Watanabe, Kidman said she only had to see one wig. 'It's very quick,' Kidman said. 'We just came up with the character and vibe, how she should be and what she should look for.' The actor also told the publication she was thrilled to have 'free rein' this season, as the story wasn't led by a book unlike the first series, which was based on Liana Moriarty's novel. She added it was 'fun to play' a woman with power. 'So many times, I play women that are in a very precarious place emotionally and Masha is just a badass.' Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and, Of Course, Nicole Kidman Are Just Some of This Year's Emmy Contender Overachievers

Peak TV may be over, but it's still Peak FYC for quite a few players both in front of and behind the camera. Because we're no longer in the era of 22-episode seasons — once the rule, now the exception — the idea of exclusivity has been thrown out the door. That's why you keep seeing your favorite actors all over your TV screens, as there seems to be no stopping of some stars' work ethic. Fine, I'm talking about you, Nicole Kidman. If there was ever an MVP of the streaming era, it would be Kidman, whose output this season includes Netflix's 'The Perfect Couple,' Paramount+'s 'Lioness,' AMC+'s 'The Last Anniversary' and Hulu's 'Nine Perfect Strangers' (which is premiering too late for eligibility this cycle, but still). More from Variety Gender Binary Acting Awards: How the Indie Spirits Have Set the Tone and Why Asia Kate Dillon Remains Hopeful Despite Setbacks Ike Barinholtz on That Chaotic 'The Studio' Golden Globes Episode, Creating 'Running Point' Despite His Bulls Fandom, and How He Won Both 'Jeopardy!' and 'Millionaire' 'Andor' Season 2 Emmy Submissions Revealed in 23 Categories Including Directing, Writing and Four Guest Stars (EXCLUSIVE) Kidman is far from the only one. Of all the unlikely TV overachievers, Harrison Ford makes the grade this year for Apple TV+'s 'Shrinking' and Paramount+'s '1923.' Then there's Steve Carell in 'The Four Seasons' and 'Mountainhead'; Nathan Lane in 'Mid-Century Modern' and 'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story'; John Goodman in 'The Righteous Gemstones' and 'The Conners'; Giancarlo Esposito in 'The Residence' and 'Godfather of Harlem'; Jon Hamm in 'Your Friends & Neighbors' and 'Landman'; Diego Luna in 'Andor' and 'La Máquina'; Lee Jung-jae in 'Squid Game' and 'The Acolyte'; and Jeffrey Wright in 'The Last of Us' and 'The Agency.' On the actress side, there's Kathryn Hahn in 'Agatha All Along' and 'The Studio'; Natasha Rothwell in 'How to Die Alone' and 'The White Lotus'; Catherine O'Hara in 'The Studio' and 'The Last of Us'; Michelle Monaghan in 'Bad Monkey' and 'The White Lotus'; Eva Longoria in 'Land of Women' and 'Only Murders in the Building'; Helen Mirren in '1923' and 'MobLand'; Allison Janney in 'The Diplomat' and 'Another Simple Favor'; Cristin Milioti in 'The Penguin' and 'Black Mirror'; Meghann Fahy in 'The Perfect Couple' and 'Sirens'; and Uzo Aduba in 'The Residence' and 'The Supremes at Earl's All-You Can-Eat.' And, listen, that is not an exhaustive list. It also doesn't include guest categories — where shows like 'The Studio' are so jam-packed with star cameos that virtually everyone can be considered a double contender. I'm perhaps most excited to see lesser-known names get their due. I don't know if anyone worked harder this year than O-T Fagbenle, and he stands out in each role – as Luke Bankole, June's husband in 'The Handmaid's Tale'; as Nico Della Guardia, the ambitious and smarmy new D.A. on 'Presumed Innocent'; and as Dennis, the mama's boy looking for a house with his wife on 'No Good Deed.' Those are three very different shows and, I've got to imagine, a treat for an actor to jump from one to the next. So I gave Fagbenle a call to hear about his strategy behind landing so many unique roles. 'When I first got into acting, I was doing theater, and you do so many different genres,' he says. 'In a single year, I would do Shakespeare to a physical theater piece, to a modern, gritty urban piece. That was par for the course in London. One of the things that I found funny about moving more into television was that the roles would become a bit same-y after a little while. With my agent, I said, 'Look, I really want to explore the diversity, both in genre and types of character. I'm just really excited that I got a chance to go back to kind of my roots.' Fagbenle has also become a bit known for his unique take on accents, particularly the drawl he gave his character on 'Presumed Innocent.' He laughs at how much attention he's received over that choice. 'The funny thing is, my natural accent changes all the time,' he explains. 'If I'm with my Nigerian family, it becomes one thing. If I'm with my London friends, it becomes another thing. So I'm always doing an accent. I was kind of like swinging the bat a little bit, but I was somewhat surprised just how interested people were in it!' And I'm sure there will be plenty more roles to come for Fagbenle to try on a few more. Nicole Kidman Reacts to Unusual Question About Her Children

When you've been a Hollywood A-lister for as long as Nicole Kidman has been, you've been asked just about every question in the book. Or at least, that's what it must feel like, since Kidman was recently asked a new question that totally caught her off guard. Don't worry though, it wasn't a "gotcha" moment from an overzealous reporter, but instead a thoughtful question that made the proud mother dig deep to deliver an insightful answer. Related: Tom Cruise Sparks Rumors About His Relationship With His Children After Awkward Father's Day Comment The interesting moment happened while Kidman was talking to Allure magazine. During the interview, the conversation turned to Kidman's late mother Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed in 2024, when the reporter asked Kidman if she liked who she herself was as a mother. Kidman was immediately taken aback and confessed that she had never been asked anything like that before. "I do, actually. Yeah," she eventually revealed. "I'm very close to both my girls. I sit on their beds and discuss the most intimate things; I get to be their guide. If they want to tell me to be quiet, they can." The actor went on to expand on her answer, offering even more insight into their shared bond, saying, "I'm able to apologize to them. I'm able to stand up to them. I very much like the relationship we have. It's nice to be able to say that." Kidman actually has four children. Two from her marriage to ex-husband Tom Cruise, who she rarely talks about or is seen with, and then her two teens that she shares with her husband Keith Urban. It sound like Kidman has worked hard to get to this point with her younger daughters, and she has every right to be proud of the mother she's become. Kudos to her!
