Jodie Comer shares unexpected Everton link after final Goodison match

Killing Eve star Jodie Comer revealed she has a surprising connection to Everton Football Club as she took to social media to mark the end of the club's time at Goodison Park Jodie Comer tribute to Everton fans on Sunday as the football club bid farewell to its Goodison Park ground after 133 years. The football team will move to a new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock later this year. Everton, which is currently captained by Irish footballer Séamus Coleman, 36, had one last game at Goodison Park - and left fans on could nine when they enjoyed a win. The team scored a a 2-0 victory over Southampton on Sunday. ‌ Ahead of the game, 32-year-old Killing Eve star Jodie took to social media to mark the end of an era - and made special mention to her father. She took to Instagram Stories and shared a photo of her dad in an Everton coat and revealed that he has worked at the club for almost three decades. ‌ She captioned her photo, writing: "Thinking of everyone saying Thank you and Goodbye to Goodison Park today. Especially this legend. 28 years at the club and counting. I love you dad!" Jodie, who is from Liverpool, has previously discussed her love for the team. She previously told The Guardian that she longs to see Everton win the Premier League. She told the outlet: "The Oscar is considered the pinnacle of acting. You receive one of them… But I think I have to say winning the league, purely to see the joy and elation on my dad's and my brother's faces." Later this year, Jodie will be seen on the big screen as a cast member of the Danny Boyle directed horror film sequel, 28 Years Later. The zombie horror film follows the 2002 original film 28 Days Later and first sequel 28 Weeks Later - which was released in 2007. Opening up to ELLE Magazine about her involvement in the film in June last year, Jodie revealed she had been studying a pop singer in order to ace an accent for her role. The magazine reported at the time: "This afternoon, she'll head to Newcastle to begin rehearsals for her latest role in the film 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle's third instalment in his zombie-horror trilogy, alongside Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. "The part means she'll get to add another accent to her repertoire: Geordie. She has been watching clips of Cheryl on The X Factor with her dialect coach to prepare." And discussing her anticipation about filming the project, she told the magazine: "I'm excited to get the first day done... Danny just seems like such a confident, intuitive and intelligent director. The original was so loved, so I'm trying not to think of that too hard. I'm not putting too much expectation on myself." Comer recently confessed to struggling with perfecting a Chicago accent for her role in the movie The Bikeriders, which is inspired by Danny Lyon's photographic book bearing the same title. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she confessed: "I would say that Kathy's accent is probably the hardest one that I've done. I was given 30 minutes with the real Kathy being interviewed by Danny Lyon, and I was so struck by how singular and unique her dialect and cadence was." She continued: "So I started working with a dialect coach, Victoria (Hanlin), and she told me, 'All the vowel sounds are a contradiction. This is something that is entirely her own.'". She added: "And I said, 'I want to get as close to the audio as I possibly can.' ". In another recent interview, this time with Buzzfeed, Jodie revealed she was enjoying working in films after first being rejected for a role in a major blockbuster. She told the magazine: "I auditioned for 'Mamma Mia! ' That was a time, that was also when I was auditioning for 'Killing Eve' as well." Despite past setbacks, both actors have secured starring roles in the upcoming crime drama 'The Bikeriders', portraying the married couple Benny and Kathy Cross.

Nicolas Cage returns as Spider-Noir in first look at live-action series for Prime Video

Nicolas Cage is officially stepping into the shadows as Spider-Man Noir, this time in live action. Prime Video has released the first look at Spider-Noir, showing Cage suited up in the black-and-white costume fans will recognize from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The series, based on the Spider-Man Noir comics, is set in 1930s New York and follows an aging private investigator who must confront his past as the city's only superhero. Cage, who voiced the character in the animated Spider-Verse film, now takes on the role in a full live-action format. The show will be available in both black-and-white and color versions when it premieres in 2026. Spider-Noir will first air domestically on MGM+'s linear channel before streaming globally on Prime Video. The ensemble cast includes Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Abraham Popoola, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, and Jack Huston. A number of guest stars are also confirmed, including Lukas Haas and Cameron Britton. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Prime Video. Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) is directing and executive producing the first two episodes. Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel's The Punisher) serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. The show was developed in collaboration with Spider-Verse filmmakers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all of whom return as executive producers. While not directly tied to the Spider-Verse films, Spider-Noir draws from the same gritty tone and visual style, with a darker, more grounded take on the superhero mythos.

Susan Sarandon and Frankie Boyle among signatories urging BBC to air Gaza film

Figures from across the film, TV, journalism and cultural sectors have signed their name in an open letter urging BBC director general Tim Davie to air the unreleased documentary, Gaza: Medics Under Fire. The letter has been sent on behalf of the UK Screen Industry, made up of a 'group of concerned film and TV professionals'. Tim Davie, director general of the BBC (Andrew Milligan/PA) The documentary, which includes eyewitness accounts from frontline Palestinian health workers in Gaza and documents attacks on hospitals and clinics, was due to air in January. But it was delayed by the BBC until an ongoing review into a different programme in the region was completed. The BBC pulled the documentary How to Survive a Warzone in February after it emerged its 13-year old narrator was the son of a Hamas official. The letter, signed by more than a dozen anonymous BBC staff, said: 'This documentary was scheduled to air in January but has since been indefinitely delayed. It has undergone rigorous editorial scrutiny. It has been fact-checked and signed off repeatedly, and yet the BBC refuses to set a broadcast date. 'This is not editorial caution. It's political suppression. The BBC has provided no timeline, no transparency. Such decisions reinforce the systemic devaluation of Palestinian lives in our media. 'It's hard not to conclude that the BBC's gatekeeping is rooted in racism. The message is clear: Programmes about the ongoing genocide, told from Palestinian perspectives, are held to a different standard. 'Every day this film is delayed, the BBC fails in its commitment to inform the public, fails in its journalistic responsibility to report the truth, and fails in its duty of care to these brave contributors.' Also among the 600 or so signatories are Channel 4 News international editor, Lindsey Hilsum, and actors Game of Thrones' Indira Varma, Killing Eve's Dame Harriet Walter, and Sweetpea star Olivia Cooke. Director Mike Leigh also added his name to the list along with actress Miriam Margolyes and Bend It Like Beckham's Juliet Stevenson. Ruhi Hamid, a filmmaker who signed the letter, said: 'As a documentary filmmaker, I know how much work, risk, and responsibility goes into telling the truth – especially in places like Gaza. 'When the BBC, a public service broadcaster, chooses to suppress a film that highlights the lifesaving work of doctors under siege, it doesn't just fail the filmmakers. It fails the public. 'It sends a message that some truths are too inconvenient to air, and that some lives – especially Palestinian lives—are less worthy of compassion or coverage. 'That's not just editorial judgment. That's a failure of journalistic integrity – and it's dangerous for our entire industry.' Rose Glandfield, a documentary editor who also signed the letter added: 'As a Jewish woman from a family of pacifists, I was raised with the belief that our humanity is defined by how we respond to the suffering of others, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or religion. Bearing witness to injustice and standing up for those in danger is not only a moral imperative, it is a core part of my identity.' The production company behind the new documentary, Basement Films, said they gathered 'searing testimony from multiple Palestinian doctors and healthcare workers' and are 'desperate' to confirm a release date. The broadcaster has responded to the delay and said it will release the documentary 'as soon as possible'. A BBC spokesperson said: 'We are committed to journalism which tells our audiences the stories of this war, including what is happening in Gaza. This documentary is a powerful piece of reporting and we will broadcast it as soon as possible. 'We have taken an editorial decision not to do so while we have an ongoing review into a previous documentary Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone.' The BBC previously apologised over 'serious flaws' in releasing How To Survive a Warzone with Davies saying he lost 'trust' in the film after learning of the Hamas connection. It is understood that the BBC will respond to the letter in due course and will not cancel the documentary. The broadcaster launched a review into the film and has delayed the release of the new documentary with no current date in place for when it will air.
