BTS' RM Thanks Fans As He Wins Favourite K-pop Artist At 2025 AMAs
Last Updated: With this win, RM becomes the first K-pop artist to be awarded in this category as both a soloist and in a group. BTS leader Kim Namjoon, popularly known as RM, made history at the 2025 American Music Awards by becoming the first K-pop artist to win in the Favourite Artist category. Although he couldn't attend the ceremony due to his ongoing military service, RM celebrated the milestone on social media. With this achievement, he also becomes the first K-pop artist to be awarded in this category as both a soloist and in a group. RM took to Instagram stories and re-shared the AMAs post with the caption, 'Thank you @amas #ARMY" with a kissing emoji. Later, the leader of BTS shared an article by Yonhap News and revealed BTS's military discharge. 'It will be soon, seriously, soon," he wrote. As soon as the American Music Awards dropped its winners list, BTS fans rushed in to congratulate their favourite K-pop idol. A fan commented, 'RM PAVED THE WAY. HISTORY MAKER RM," while another fan commented, 'Big congrats, Joon!!! Barracks can't hold down your goatness. Keep thriving, and I can't wait to see you." Other nominations for this award included BLACKPINK's Rose, BTS's Jimin, ATEEZ, and Stray Kids. Previously, BTS made history at the American Music Awards by winning Favourite Pop Duo or Group for the fourth consecutive year in 2022. In June 2022, the K-pop band went on hiatus as some of the band members began their mandatory military service and others focused on their solo careers. Later in that year, RM released his debut solo studio album titled Indigo, which took the third spot on the Billboard 200 list. His second studio album, titled Right Place, Wrong Person, was released in May 2024 and attained wide popularity. Additionally, a documentary titled RM: Right People, Wrong Place premiered at the Busan International Film Festival prior to RM's military enlistment. RM, along with BTS' V, is scheduled to be discharged on June 10, 2025, whereas Jungkook and Suga are set to be discharged on June 11 and 21, respectively. First Published:

RM makes AMAs history as solo star, upholding BTS's global legacy
RM, the leader of world-renowned K-pop group BTS, has etched his name in music history once again — this time as a solo artist — by winning Favourite K-pop Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). Currently serving in the South Korean military, Kim Namjoon, known to millions as RM, became the first artist to win this prestigious category both as a solo performer and as part of BTS, cementing not only his personal legacy but also reinforcing the enduring global influence of the band. Despite his absence from the awards ceremony due to military duties, RM took to Instagram Stories to thank fans. Reposting BTS's official announcement, he wrote: 'Thank you for your love and support, #BTSARMY 💜.' In another post, he sparked excitement by hinting at his return, writing: 'It will be soon, seriously, soon,' in response to an article about BTS's upcoming reunification. RM's victory was bolstered by the success of his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person , released in May 2024. The record earned both critical acclaim and commercial success — topping Billboard's Top Rap Albums Chart, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, and securing six spots in the Top 10 Rap Digital Song Sales. BTS: Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehung, Jeon Jungkook His artistic evolution was also documented in 'RM: Right People, Wrong Place', a film released worldwide in December 2024 after its premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. RM's solo success adds to BTS's phenomenal legacy — a group that has not only reshaped the global music scene but also broken barriers for Asian artists worldwide. With all members expected to reunite in late 2025 following the completion of military service by RM, V, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook, fans are eagerly awaiting BTS's full-fledged return. Jin and J-Hope, the first to complete service in 2023, are already back in the public eye, setting the stage for what promises to be a monumental comeback for the world's most influential pop act.

BTS' RM Says His Agency ‘Doesn't Like It' When He Opens Up About Industry Hardships
Last Updated: The BTS star took this opportunity to give the world a look into what goes on behind the scenes of making a K-pop idol. RM, aka Kim Namjoon, is back with yet another insight into the K-pop industry, for which he has been garnering widespread praise. The BTS leader, who is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, once shared his unfiltered thoughts on the harsh reality of K-pop and how the West views South Korea in an interview which was recently posted on the social media platform The Qoo. His replies caught the internet's attention, prompting people to share their views on the same. As reported by Koreaboo, RM was questioned about the intense K-pop trainee life, with the interviewer asking, 'K-pop stars go through years of intense training under a highly competitive survival system, and even after debut, they continue to push themselves to the limit. What are your thoughts on this system?" The BTS star took this opportunity to give the world a look into what goes on behind the scenes of making a K-pop idol. Namjoon candidly answered, 'My company doesn't like it when I answer questions like this, because I do acknowledge parts of it." Well, this won't be the first time he has honestly confessed to the hardships of K-pop training. He further added, 'Some reporters are going to write headlines like, 'RM calls it a horrible system that destroys young people!' But I think that system has, in its own way, played a role in shaping this unique industry." Sharing that the industry has changed, RM said, 'A lot has improved over time, too, things like contract terms and training methods have changed significantly for the better." The interviewer further questioned the BTS star about K-pop's 'obsession with perfection and the constant tension," inquiring if these were unique to Korean culture. To this, RM gave a nuanced answer, highlighting why Koreans work hard. He explained, 'Westerners don't understand. Korea is a country that was invaded, devastated, and then divided in two. Just 70 years ago, we had nothing. We were a country that needed help from the IMF and the UN. But now, we're a nation the whole world is watching. How was that even possible? How did this happen? It's because people worked like crazy to move forward." He mentioned how foreigners, especially from France or the UK, who were colonisers once, come to Korea and criticise their way of life. But for Koreans, the same hard work made them one of the leading countries in the world. RM continued, 'But those things are what it takes to make it. And they're also what makes K-Pop so captivating. Sure, there's a grey area when it comes to judgment, but anything that happens too fast or too intensely is bound to come with side effects." His insights went viral in no time, with even racking up thousands of views and comments on The Qoo. RM's honesty and depth earned him praise from fans. First Published:

When Kim Namjoon said he didn't 'know a single thing about BTS': We're just people who met each other because…
BTS leader Kim Namjoon, aka RM, along with Suga, Jimin, Kim Taehyung and Jungkook will soon get discharged from the military. The BTS members, who began their military service in December 2023, are scheduled to get discharged in June this year. As BTS fans eagerly await the day when the K-pop idols will return, we take you down memory lane when they spoke about their group. (Also Read | RM has 'many things' to tell BTS ARMY when he returns as 'civilian' Kim Namjoon: 'I'll be able to talk at some point') Speaking with Weverse Magazine in 2020, Namjoon talked about how there was a time when the group debuted in 2013, he thought he knew everything about BTS. But after seven years he felt he didn't "know a single thing about BTS". When asked about how he felt about BTS in 2020, Namjoon had said, "BTS is … Well, it's really hard to tell. (laughs) When BTS started out, I thought, 'I know everything there is to know about BTS,' but now it's, 'I don't know a single thing about BTS.' In the past, I felt like I knew everything, and that anything was possible. Call it childish or ambitious. But if I were to ask myself, 'What is BTS to me?' I would say, we're just people who met each other because we were meant to." Namjoon also talked about how all seven members came together to form the group. He had said, "But it feels like the stars aligned and a startup company became a unicorn, with perfect timing and lots of smart people. Looking back, there were a lot of ironies and contradictions in this industry. I thought I figured them out one by one, and then finally understood the whole thing. But now I feel like I don't know anything at all. Anyway, to sum up: My young, reckless twenties. The events of my twenties. There were a lot of contradictions, people, fame, and conflict all tangled together, but it was my choice and I got a lot out of it, so my twenties were an intense but also happy time." Namjoon is a part of BTS, which also includes Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. Jin returned after completing his service in June 2024. J-Hope was the next member to get a military discharge. The rest of the members will also get their military discharge this year. The group is expected to reunite this year once all members have completed their service. They performed their last concert together in 2022 at the Yet to Come event in Busan, South Korea.
