Nathan Fielder blasts ‘dumb' FAA response to The Rehearsal plane crash claims

Nathan Fielder has blasted the Federal Aviation Administration in a new interview with CNN. Fielder is behind the HBO show The Rehearsal, which used outlandish methods during its recently concluded second season to examine very real issues surrounding the ability of co-pilots to communicate clearly with one another. The comedian, 42, joined CNN's The Situation Room Thursday morning to discuss the show's second season and the aviation issues it thrust into the spotlight. In addition to anchors Wolf Blitzer and Pamela Brown, Fielder was joined by former National Transportation Safety Board member John Goglia, who also appeared on The Rehearsal. Brown shared the FAA's statement to CNN responding to Fielder's claims that communication issues between pilots are causing crashes, saying the FAA "requires all airline crewmembers (pilots and flight attendants) and dispatchers to complete Crew Resource Management training.' The FAA also said it isn't seeing data to support Fielder's claims. But Fielder instantly slammed the statement as 'dumb.' 'Here's the issue: I trained to be a pilot. I'm a 737 pilot. I went through the training,' Fielder started. 'The training is someone shows you a PowerPoint slide saying, 'If you are a co-pilot and the captain does something wrong, you need to speak up about it.' That's all. That's the training, and they talk about some crashes that happen, but they don't do anything that makes it stick emotionally.' Fielder was pleading the case for additional communication training for pilots, and Goglia agreed the need exists. 'In aviation, we've long known that communications has been an issue,' Goglia said on CNN. 'And we've — we have dealt with it effectively through crew resource management. But what Nathan has uncovered was a little sliver that has fallen through the cracks and with these communications disconnect between pilots.' The new comments come after Fielder's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, in which he confirmed that he had genuinely spent two and a half years obtaining his license to fly a Boeing 747 for the show's shocking season two finale. 'So I trained for almost two-and-a-half years and worked my way up through private pilot, instrument, commercial, and I got a 737 type rating, so I am a licensed 737 pilot,' he shared. The comedian again shared his belief that poor communication between pilots has been a leading contributing factor in many plane crashes. 'That's why I went as far as becoming a 737 pilot, because I wanted to demonstrate that on a regular flight where two pilots are just trying their best, that communication between the co-pilots, captain and first officer, can be a struggle,' he explained. Giving further details about how the final episode came together, he added: 'I found someone who would lease me a 737. It's very hard to convince someone to lease a comedian a 737, but I found someone to do it and we chartered a real flight over the Mojave desert. We went from San Bernardino round to Las Vegas and then looped back, with cameras filming the whole time. 'You can see that we're both trying our best to communicate, and it's a struggle. I do think, and this is in the show, and you can see it, that when people look back at this 'Miracle over the Mojave', that they can see a turning point in aviation.'

Sarah Silverman recalls keeping 'I'm F---ing Matt Damon' video a secret from then boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel: 'I had to lie to him'

It's been 17 years since we all learned a little too much about Sarah Silverman's love life. On Jan. 31, 2008, Silverman surprised her then boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel with a gag video, revealing that she was involved in an affair with Matt Damon. The resulting clip turned into an early YouTube sensation, and added tankers-worth of fuel to the ongoing phony Damon-Kimmel feud. Silverman, who has a new Netflix special out now called PostMortem, stopped by Ted Danson's Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast and recalled how the video came together. The initial idea, Silverman said, came from "two writers on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Tony Barbieri and Sal Iacono, Jimmy's cousin Sal. I was on tour, and I was going through Miami, and that's where Matt Damon was living at that time. So we planned to do something when I was there." She continued, "[Jimmy and I] were a couple, and I remember I had to lie to him about where I was on tour, and I'm not good at that at all. I was just like, 'Commit to this.' The night before, we got together, and we wrote the song in a studio and recorded it. We wrote the song, like, in a fury, and one of the guys did Matt's voice. Then we had three hours at this hotel the next morning, and Matt had also given us three hours because he had a hard out at noon, because his daughter had a Halloween pageant." Danson, who admitted he had missed the phenomenon when it first happened, asked a bit about the lore of the Damon-Kimmel feud, a running gag that has gone on to involve Ben Affleck, Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake, and schtick at the Oscars ceremony and the World Series. Silverman explained how early on Kimmel had trouble securing guests. "I remember his second guest was a man with the longest arm hair. Like, it was really slim pickings. He couldn't get anyone. And I said, 'You should, say, take the biggest movie star, you know, Matt Damon. Say, 'Sorry, Matt Damon, we ran out of time' at the end of the show. And then he started doing that. And then when Matt started engaging in it, he was like, 'I wanna do this, but don't ever stop doing it.' And I think he still to this day says, 'Sorry, Matt Damon, ran out of time.'" Getting back to the shooting of the video, Silverman explained, "[Damon] came in and learned it in a closet in one of the hotel rooms, recorded his part, and then we just played the audio and lip-synced it. And we had four different locations, and it was just, like, run and gun. And it came out so great." Kimmel, meanwhile, knew nothing about it, and didn't know what he was going to see when Silverman rolled the clip on the show. "I think he acted mad because he felt like he needed to," she said. "But he loved it. And I remember we were brushing our teeth before the show, you know, like, in his dressing room, and he goes, 'Everyone says this video is great.' And I go, 'Keep your expectations low. It's just a funny video.' But it really was kind of one of the first viral videos, and it's so funny because after that, people would try to hire me to make a viral video, and I was like, 'Everyone wants to make a viral video. That's everyone's intention, I'm sure, but that's not something you can make.'" Silverman also said that she had rewatched the clip for the first time in a while about a year ago. "I was like, 'This actually holds up. So much of my comedy, and comedy in general, is just not evergreen. But that one felt pretty evergreen." You can hear Silverman's full chat with Danson below. Miley Cyrus Recalls Getting 'Brutal Infection' By Rolling Around on Hollywood Walk of Fame During Something Beautiful Shoot

Miley Cyrus recently revealed that she developed a 'brutal infection' after filming on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her upcoming visual album, Something Beautiful. During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the singer shared that she got sick shortly after shooting a scene where she rolled around on the famous sidewalk. 'I filmed this video in October, and by November, on Thanksgiving, I was put in ICU for a moment,' Miley told Kimmel. The Flowers singer shared that she was taken to the intensive care unit because the hospital was full during the holiday. Here's What Happened to Miley Cyrus Miley Cyrus recalled how the infection started around her knee, saying, 'My leg began to disintegrate…around the kneecap area.' A doctor later asked her if she had any idea what could have caused the infection, and that's when she remembered filming on the ground. She said she had to explain the situation to the surgeon and was surprised when he reacted by saying, 'yuck.' Miley added that even though surgeons are used to opening up cadavers and seeing the insides of humans, including during brain operations, he still found her injury disgusting. The upcoming film, Something Beautiful, is described as a unique visual experience fueled by fantasy and a one-of-a-kind pop opera. It will be released in theaters on June 12, shortly after her 9th studio album of the same name dropped on May 30. The project combines Miley's music with creative visuals. But the artist admitted she had to make some "sacrifices" along the way, especially when it came to budgeting the film. Despite having what she described as a pretty good budget, Miley admitted that she spent most of it on costumes. She told Kimmel that all her money went into her clothes. When asked about renting a location for filming, she shared that she chose to film in the middle of the night instead. Miley asked Kimmel if he had ever been to the Walk of Fame at that time, adding that she felt like it could have been her last day. Although she later felt uneasy about sharing the story, Kimmel reassured her by saying that she showed true dedication and nearly gave her life for the project.

Miley Cyrus Got a 'Brutal Infection' after Filming on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Yara Sameh Miley Cyrus shared that she got a 'brutal infection' after rolling around on the Hollywood Walk of Fame while filming her upcoming film, accompanying her new album, "Something Beautiful". The Grammy-winning singer opened up during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that due to her budget for the project, she decided to go to the iconic landmark at night to film, as there would be fewer people around. However, she 'caught something' in the process. 'I filmed this video in October, and by November, on Thanksgiving, I was put in ICU for a moment,' Cyrus said, clarifying that she was admitted into the intensive care unit, specifically, because the hospital was full due to the holiday. 'My leg began to disintegrate…around the kneecap area,' she added. 'And then the doctor goes, 'Do you have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?'' The 'Flowers' singer said that's when the memory of her dancing on the ground in Hollywood popped into her head. 'I had to tell him, and to have a surgeon look at you and say, 'Yuck,'' Cyrus recalled. 'They open up cadavers. They see inside the guts of humans, and they're looking at me, telling me I'm disgusting. And they do brain operations!'. Cyrus' visual album is set for a big-screen release on June 12, shortly after her ninth studio album, "Something Beautiful", dropped on May 30. The new film is described as 'a unique visual experience fueled by fantasy' and a 'one of a kind pop opera.' The 'We Can't Stop' singer also admitted that she had a 'big dream' and a 'pretty good budget' for the film, but 'spent it all on my clothes.' 'So then when it came time to go to the Walk of Fame, they're like, 'So what are you going to do? Are you going to rent this thing or what, 'cause that's really out of your price range.' I'm like, 'No, we'll just go in the middle of the night.' Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night?' she asked the host in a concerned tone. 'I thought it was my last day.' Cyrus later felt bad because she 'wanted this video to be so fabulous and now I've just told everyone such a filthy [story].' However, Kimmel quickly recounted, 'No, what you've told everyone is that you sacrificed for this, you nearly gave your life for this.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies
