Australian forward Alex Toohey listed as a first-round pick in one mock draft

Australian forward Alex Toohey listed as a first-round pick in one mock draft Alex Toohey is considered one of the top international prospects in the 2025 NBA draft, and the Australian is projected to be a first-round pick in one mock draft. Toohey averaged 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists on 30.2% shooting from 3-point range in 30 appearances with the Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League. He was rewarded with the NBL Next Generation Award, given to the top player under 25. The 6-foot-8 forward is highly touted after two seasons with the Kings, given his offensive skill set and 6-foot, 10 3/4-inch wingspan. He is projected to be the 27th pick in the latest mock draft by Bryan Kalbrosky of For The Win, as a result. Australia's Alex Toohey is a fascinating prospect who contributes well on both sides of the floor. He is a legitimately strong wing defender whose Defensive Statistical Impact (DSI) ranks as the best among those who have played more than one game in Australia's NBL this season, per Cerebro Sports. Toohey competed in the combine earlier this month, averaging 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in two scrimmage games. He also recorded a 2.90-second time in the shuttle run, tied for the 16th-fastest mark among all participants this year. The 21-year-old showed improvement with his 3-point shot this past season after converting 27.3% from beyond the arc in his first year in Sydney. He showcased that improved shot in the combine, connecting on 61.2% of his attempts in two 3-point drills. Toohey played with the Kings as part of the Next Stars program, which has also helped the likes of LaMelo Ball, Josh Giddey and Alexandre Sarr, among others. He is looking to become the next player to hear his name called in the NBA draft after spending time in the NBL.

Sacramento Kings Make Coaching Decision on Friday

Sacramento Kings Make Coaching Decision on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Sacramento Kings are at somewhat of a crossroads regarding their roster. They're just good enough to contend for a spot in the NBA Playoffs or NBA Play-In Tournament, but not good enough to compete to win the Western Conference. Advertisement On the flip side, they're also not bad enough to bottom all the way out and rebuild. And if we know anything about owner Vivek Ranadive, he'll keep trying to contend. Sacramento Kings make coaching move on Friday The Kings have already been busy in their offseason, naming Scott Perry as the new general manager. The Kings elected to part ways with Mike Brown just after Christmas this season and installed Doug Christie as the interim head coach. He was later named the full-time head coach. Christie played for the Kings from 2000-2005 and his impact was felt as soon as he was traded there. He helped the Kings to the best record in the NBA in the 2000-01 season. He was named to the All-Defensive First Team once and the All-Defensive Second Team three times during his tenure with the Sacramento Kings. Advertisement Christie made a pair of moves Friday, adding Chris Darnell, the head coach of the Canton Charge of the G League, to his coaching staff, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. That wasn't all. James Ham of reported that Mike Miller will also be joining Christie's staff as an assistant. Miller has a history with Perry. While Perry was the general manager of the New York Knicks in 2019-20, Miller was an assistant and at one point, the interim head coach. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on May 30, 2025, where it first appeared.

Why Josh Hazlewood is crucial in RCB's quest for their maiden IPL title

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Virat Kohli and Josh Hazlewood celebrate a dismissal of Punjab Kings wicket. (ANI Photo) in Mullanpur: In the last couple of years, Josh Hazlewood has taken his T20 game to the next level. Josh Hazlewood is six feet five inches tall, has a high release point, and he makes the most of it. The ball that nailed Punjab Kings' Josh Inglis in Qualifier 1 was not too short. It was just an effort ball, and his fellow countryman was undone by the extra bounce. On Thursday night against the Kings, he picked up 3 for 21, and dismantled the Kings in the powerplay by getting rid of their in-form captain Shreyas Iyer in quick succession. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! For a bowler who hadn't seemed too clued into the T20 format in his earlier days, Hazlewood is playing a different game now. He sees it as a natural evolution of playing more and more T20s. Who's that IPL player? "I think, purely just opportunity and experience of playing the format more often, different leagues, obviously mostly international but I think I've really improved," he told reporters after RCB cruised to their fourth final, following a convincing eight-wicket victory over Punjab Kings. Josh Hazlewood - we picked up momentum from Jitesh's knock in Lucknow "You just learn every year. I think you always learn something and you sort of just take that and put it into your arsenal and remember that the next time. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Schlechter Stuhlgang? Diese Methode funktioniert wie "auf Knopfdruck" Darmschutz Ratgeber Undo You can train all you want but I think playing the game, playing T20 cricket, you are learning all the time, so yeah that is probably the main thing I think that has made me improve as a T20 bowler. Purely the opportunity and the learning from the experiences," he added. Hazlewood missed a few matches for RCB after he sustained a shoulder injury. Poll Do you think RCB has the best bowling attack in the IPL? Yes, definitely It's competitive but not the best No, there are stronger teams "Worked really hard the last few weeks on the shoulders to get back and got some good overs into it the last sort of 10 days. I was happy with tonight, the wicket helped obviously, didn't it? Not having to bowl fast yorkers or anything like that. So yeah, it is feeling good to be back," he said. The break proved to be a blessing in disguise for the Australian pacer. He has not only recovered but now will be gunning for the second World Test Championship (WTC) final, starting from June 11 against South Africa. "I've got to be bowling, you know, wherever I am in the world I've got to be bowling, getting ready for that game anyway. There's no better place than, I think, out in the middle, obviously you've got to bowl more, more hours of training from time to time to build up for a Test, but to get that intensity right up, there's no better place than the IPL. I don't bowl too much differently in Test match cricket than tonight," said Hazlewood. Josh Hazlewood suggests RCB has got all the bases covered when it comes to bowling. He said: "I think we've just got all bases covered, it feels like. I think any one of the five or six bowlers can bowl at any moment of the game, whether it's the start, middle or end," he said about RCB's bowling attack. Punjab Kings bowling coach James Hopes on where it went wrong - after the first over "I think it obviously helps having Bhuvi, who has so much experience, quite a calm customer, so that sort of rubs off on the rest of their attack. I'm probably pretty similar to Bhuvi as well in that regard, everything is quite relaxed, quite calm, focus on your skill and try to execute that," he said. A couple of years ago, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald had summed up Hazlewood's rise in T20s: 'If you give a highly-skilled bowler a chance in the format, he will work it out.' In a way, he was correct. Hazlewood hasn't changed as a bowler. The soul of his bowling is to hit that good length consistently and keep trapping the batters, who always go for an adventure in this format. With 21 wickets in just 11 games, Josh Hazlewood has shown that he is probably the missing puzzle in RCB's quest for an elusive title.

'Who is this guy?': Virat Kohli taunts Musheer Khan; debutant told to reply 'You know my brother. He hit 150 for India'

Punjab Kings' dream run met a brutal reality check in their own backyard as Royal Challengers Bengaluru tore through their top-order in a fiery display of Powerplay bowling. On a pitch they know intimately, the Kings were expected to dictate terms after being put in to bat, but Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had other plans. Their relentless accuracy, aided by poor shot selection and a frozen response under pressure, left PBKS reeling at 48/4 within the first six overs. The early carnage silenced the Mullanpur crowd and also exposed a side that had cruised through most of the league stage without a serious test of their batting depth. And perhaps, that led to a rather unexpected decision from the team management as they stared at an ugly batting collapse. For the first time in IPL 2025, the team was compelled to send Musheer Khan as their Impact Player, signalling both desperation and surprise. Until now, the young batter had been a player PBKS never needed to tap into – a testament to how secure their top order had been. Musheer's sudden entry, meant to patch up an innings in tatters, didn't work for the Kings, though. Interestingly, as Musheer took the crease for PBKS, RCB great Virat Kohli also seemed to align with the notion that a franchise debut in Qualifier 1 was, indeed, a surprising decision. 'Look at Virat Kohli at the first slip. Just letting him know that he's a debutant in a pretty big match. He's saying, 'who is this guy?'' Matthew Hayden, who was on-air during the moment, pointed out as Musheer took the crease. Harsha Bhogle, Hayden's co-commentator at the time, suggested that Musheer should remind Kohli about Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer's brother, who has played with the RCB great in Test cricket. 'He might just turned around and say, 'you know my brother, he hit 150 playing for India'.' Musheer has been away from professional cricket for many months after a car crash right before the beginning of the domestic season last year. The youngster, however, was in scintillating form for Mumbai in the previous Ranji Trophy season, scoring 433 runs in just five innings at a brilliant average of 108. Musheer made his return to cricket with local T20 league in Mumbai before joining the Punjab Kings squad. Punjab Kings had finished at the top of the IPL 2025 table with 19 points to their name. This secured them a cushion in the playoffs, as a loss won't eliminate them from the tournament. If the side concedes a defeat to the RCB on Thursday, Shreyas Iyer's men will await the result of the eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, setting up a clash with the winners of the game on Sunday.
