Midland woman wastes no time upgrading home with first big lottery win
Heather Thompson of Midland, Ont. won the second price in the Ontario 49 March 5, 2025, draw worth $50,000.
Heather Thompson wasn't no time deciding what to do with her first big lottery win, she immediately put it toward upgrading her Midland home.
'I ordered new windows for my home right away, and I plan to paint my house,' she said. 'I'm retired, so this win is a nice cushion to fall back on.'
Thompson won the second price in the Ontario 49 March 5 draw worth $50,000 with the ticket she purchased at King's Little General Convenience on King Street in Midland.
'It was 5 a.m. when I decided to check the winning numbers on my phone,' she shared. 'At first, I thought I'd won $500, then I saw the bonus number and froze.'
The proud mother of two and grandmother said she couldn't believe her luck.
"It's just — wow. I'm speechless, and still can't fully process it. It's all just so exciting," she said.
Ontario 49 costs $1 per play with draws every Wednesday and Saturday.
