Kirk Herbstreit Teases Major Announcement With Nick Saban originally appeared on Athlon Sports. ESPN sports analyst Kirk Herbstreit, most known for his work on College GameDay and Thursday Night Football, went viral with his former dog Ben, who passed away in November 2024. Advertisement Ben's younger brother, Peter, has filled the void and been a sensational piece of Herbstreit's life, and is fully integrated in the College GameDay crew. Beloved by all members of the team, Herbstreit posted a picture with the young golden retriever with former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, teasing a major announcement upcoming. A new Home Depot commercial featuring both Herbstreits and Saban is set to release soon, and the picture of them more than adds to the hype. Lee Corso's final ‘College Gameday' to be at Texas-Ohio State

June 10 - ESPN announced that it's long-running "College GameDay" will take its show to Columbus, Ohio for commentator Lee Corso's final ever broadcast on Aug. 30. The Week 1 contest between Ohio State and Texas figures to be a highly ranked affair, with both the defending national champion Buckeyes and Longhorns having title aspirations in 2025. The network announced Corso's retirement in April, noting the legendary college football personality would make his final appearance during Week 1 of this upcoming season, after a nearly four-decade run on the show. "Lee Corso has developed a special connection to generations of fans through his entertaining style and iconic headgear picks," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said. "Lee is one of the most influential and beloved figures in the history of college football and our ESPN team will celebrate his legendary career during his final College GameDay appearance this August." The former collegiate head coach and Florida State player has become well known for his tradition of donning the mascot heads of teams he predicts will win the show's featured matchup. According to ESPN, Corso, 89, boasts a 286-144 record picking games with headgear since he began that segment in October 1996. "ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years," Corso said. "They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement. And lest I forget, the fans ... truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful." Ohio State begins its title defense with three straight home games, also hosting Grambling State and Ohio before taking to the road for a Sept. 27 matchup with Washington. The Buckeyes bring back a talented roster but are replacing both coordinators and will have an entirely new backfield. For Texas, the game marks the highly anticipated turn to Arch Manning at quarterback following a semifinal run a season ago. The Longhorns' schedule lightens up after the trip to Ohio, with home games against San Jose State, UTEP and Sam Houston to close out September. --Field Level Media

How to Watch Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video

PCMag editors select and review products independently. If you buy through affiliate links, we may earn commissions, which help support our testing. Football fans are accustomed to changing channels if they want to watch games. After all, the NFL eagerly slices up its schedule to sell matchups to CBS, FOX, and NBC. With the popularity of streaming video services, there's room for another company to get in on the gridiron competition. And few companies are more powerful than Amazon. Prime Video has the exclusive rights to stream Thursday Night Football until 2033. Prime Video costs $8.99 per month, or you can get it as part of your larger Amazon Prime subscription for $14.99 per month or $139 per year (there are no extra fees for NFL streaming). If you want to see the new NFL rookie class in action or the Philadelphia Eagles' attempt at a Super Bowl repeat, check out everything you need to know about streaming Thursday Night Football. Finding streaming-exclusive NFL games shouldn't be too complicated for most viewers. Instead of hopping to a specific traditional broadcast channel, simply fire up the Prime Video app downloaded to your smart TV or media streaming device. You can also watch Thursday Night Football on Twitch, the Amazon-owned live-streaming platform (unfortunately, the app isn't available on Roku TVs). You can stream the games live or check out the replay afterward. Amazon's Thursday Night Football covers the 16 games listed below, as well as an undisclosed NFL Wild Card game on either January 10 or 11, 2026. 9/11 Washington Commanders versus Green Bay Packers 9/18 Miami Dolphins versus Buffalo Bills 9/25 Seattle Seahawks versus Arizona Cardinals 10/2 San Francisco 49ers versus Los Angeles Rams 10/9 Philadelphia Eagles versus New York Giants 10/16 Pittsburgh Steelers versus Cincinnati Bengals 10/23 Minnesota Vikings versus Los Angeles Chargers 10/30 Baltimore Ravens versus Miami Dolphins 11/6 Las Vegas Raiders versus Denver Broncos 11/13 New York Jets versus New England Patriots 11/20 Buffalo Bills versus Houston Texans 11/28 Chicago Bears versus Philadelphia Eagles 12/4 Dallas Cowboys versus Detroit Lions 12/11 Atlanta Falcons versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12/18 Los Angeles Rams versus Seattle Seahawks 12/25 Denver Broncos versus Kansas City Chiefs You can also enjoy pregame, halftime, and postgame entertainment led by broadcasters Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit. The pregame starts at 7 p.m. EST, and you can view cool matchup details via Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats once the game starts. Naturally, Amazon's stream encourages you to buy plenty of NFL merchandise from the Amazon store. A VPN lets you virtually travel the world by spoofing your geographic location. So, if you want to watch Thursday Night Football from outside the US, perhaps from a country that calls the NFL American football, a VPN is theoretically your best bet. However, Prime Video is one of the many major streaming services that block VPN traffic due to licensing deals. Watching Thursday Night Football on Twitch may be a workaround worth investigating. NFL analyst slams anti-vaxxers for hijacking poignant post about college player's death at age 21

Kirk Herbstreit has hit back at anti-vaxxers attempting to blame the covid vaccine for the death of college football payer Ben Christman at age 21. Earlier this week, it emerged that Christman died from cardiac arrhythmia, an irregular heartbeat and cardiomyopathy - a disease that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood around the body. Herbstreit took to X to offer his condolensces to Christman's family, explaing how his son was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at 20, but his condition improved. The ESPN college analyst ended his initial post by saying: 'Too many young people are asymptomatic and unaware of any issues that exist. A mandated Echo (echocardiogram - a heart test) could help save lives. It's time for the NCAA and Conference Commissioners to take a look at this. Love to be involved.' But an X user responded to Herbstreit asking if Christman was vaccinated for Covid-19, to which he replied: 'I have no idea about Ben and his health history and respectfully this isn't about politics. 'Heart disease-cardiac arrhythmia-irregular heartbeat have been an issues with young people for generations! My grandfather-aunt-brother-myself all diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. 'All these can be diagnosed with the proper testing-it's expensive to do it universally but feel it's last time to help prevent these unfortunate type of situations. 'Please don't take the low hanging fruit and make it about Covid-the vaccine-or your politics. This has been an issues for several decades.' Another anti-vaxxer replied to Herbstreit saying: 'It kinda is about politics and the forcing of people to take an untested vaccine that has resulted in an abnormally high number of heart defects in young people.' Herbstreit responded: 'All good. If it's okay let's sidebar that discussion-just for a moment. 'Whether the vaccine added to this issue or not-the point is my suggestion about making Echos mandatory in college athletics is past due and hope we can make it happen albeit very expensive and I'd like to use my platform and family experience with heart disease to offer my support. That's all.' Christman reportedly underwent an EKG - a test to check the heartbeat - on February 10 after complaining of chest pains, with a cardio doctor subsequently reviewing the tests but not finding anything alarming. Following that practice, Christman reportedly returned home at around 3pm and went straight into his room after briefly greeting his roommate. The next day, according to police documents, Christman was found by a teammate lying on his back, foaming at the mouth and with purple fingers. A police officer reportedly arrived at the scene on the morning of February 11 - following a 911 call - and determined that Christman had been deceased for 'a few hours' due to the color of his right arm. The person who placed the 911 call and another teammate were administering CPR when the officer arrived.

Kirk Herbstreit: Falcons drafted 'two elite pass rushers' on Day 1

Kirk Herbstreit: Falcons drafted 'two elite pass rushers' on Day 1 The Falcons' moves on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL draft impressed Kirk Herbstreit On Day 1 of the 2025 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons did exactly what the fans wanted them to do, and then some. It was a pretty solid guess that the team would land some sort of pass rusher at pick 15. After wisely using that pick to take former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Jalon Walker, the Falcons came back into the first round to select former Tennessee Volunteers edge James Pearce Jr. These two picks show how desperate the team has become to address a critical issue that has plagued this team for so long. While this move did come as a shock to most people, largely due to the team's lack of draft capital, college football/NFL analyst Kirk Herbstreit gave high praise to the Falcons following Day 1 of the draft. "Another one I'll give you that I really loved is what Atlanta did. Atlanta got Jalon Walker, who I think can be the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Explosive, just nasty. Can play off ball linebacker, can come off the edge blitz, can do so many different things," stated Herbstreit. "Then they get James Pearce, one of the better pass rushers in this draft and very explosive." Even though the team gave up a future first-round pick, the Falcons had to do something on defense after an uneventful free agency period. "So, you get two elite pass rushers, which is something Raheem Morris desperately needed and it's exactly what he got," Herbstreit continued. "When you not only look at talent, but need, I think it's hard to argue who did a better job than Atlanta picking up those two pass rushers and what they are going to be able to do." Since 2021, the Falcons have been last or near last each season in sacks per game and sack percentage. Adrian Claiborne 10 sacks in 2017 was the last time the team fielded a defender that got double digit sack totals. The next best was Vic Beasley's nine sacks in 2019. Of course, no player's NFL career can be predicted on draft night, but it goes to show how serious the team is about building a proper defense. You could also argue that this was Terry Fontenot's last ditch effort to save his job because he could be out as general manager if the team doesn't produce in 2025. So all in all, tonight was a massive potential win for the Falcons and one the team will look to build upon.
