The Voice: Which Former Contestants Should Return for Season 29?

Fans of The Voice let out a collective chorus of 'Hmm' when the NBC sing-off revealed the changes being implemented for Season 29's Battle of Champions (which premieres in spring 2026). In particular, eyebrows were raised over the Knockouts round twist in which coaches Adam Levine, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson bring back two former contestants apiece to duke it out in what the show has dubbed an In-Season All-Star Competition to be judged by former coach CeeLo Green. On one hand, it seems unfair to the new contestants who will have made it to the Knockouts. They ran a gauntlet to get that far, only to then have to contend with past favorites. On the other hand, it's an intriguing proposition. Who among us doesn't have singers from past seasons that we'd love to see come back and win the whole shebang? I might not tune in for one coach over another, but you bet I'd make The Voice appointment TV to hear Team Legend's Katie Kadan again! More from TVLine Chicago P.D. Amanda Brown (Team Adam Levine) The Season 3 standout's Playoffs cover of Aerosmith unequivocally told all future contestants that if they thought they could do better, ahem, dream on. (Listen to her rendition above.) (Team Kelly Clarkson) The quality of his voice was right there in this charismatic Season 23 contestant's name. Maybe the second time will be the charm for him? (Listen to 'Perfect' take on Ed Sheeran above.) Sarah Grace (Team Kelly Clarkson) Just a kid during Season 15, when she was axed in the Semifinals, Grace had the chops even then to go all the way; she just… well, didn't. (Marvel at her 'Amazing Grace'/'House of the Rising Sun' mash-up above.) Katie Kadan (Team John Legend) Though the Season 17 belter had a memorable look, enviable wit and an unforgettably resonant voice, she only scored a third-place finish. (Buckle up for her cover of Janis Joplin's 'Piece of My Heart' above.) Jershika Maple (Team John Legend) The term 'powerhouse' was all but coined to describe the Season 21 contestant whose soulful vocals should've landed her higher than fifth place. (Lend an ear as she slays Natalie Cole's 'Inseparable' above.) James Wolpert (Team Adam Levine) The alt-rocker left us intoxicated with his Playoffs cover of Joni Mitchell's classic 'A Case of You' but still got eliminated in Season 5's Semifinals. Indi Hartwell wins TNA debut with a finisher from Johnny Gargano

Indi Hartwell had a successful in-ring debut for TNA, and she used a finisher handed down by her wrestling father, Johnny Gargano. Hartwell arrived to Impact (May 15, 2025) for action against Kelsey Heather. It didn't take long for the crowd to chant, 'Indi Wrestling.' Heather was scrappy. Hartwell had to put in work to neutralize her opponent. A spinebuster paved the way toward victory. Hartwell executed the Hurts Donut full nelson slam. Commentary mentioned that the move came from Gargano's playbook. Here is his version of Hurts Donut in an NXT ring. Hartwell picked up her first win in TNA, and seeds were planted for her first feud as well. As Indi reflected on the moment backstage, Tasha Steelz barged in with an update on Mustafa Ali from a different storyline. Hartwell didn't appreciate the rude interruption taking her camera time. Steelz stuck a finger in Hartwell's face and warned that she will deal with her later. That is a big step in competition for Hartwell. Steelz is a former Knockouts champion. She won the title off Mickie James. Steelz is also a two-time Knockouts tag team champion with Kiera Hogan. Hartwell is a former NXT women's champion in her own right. She also had tag team success winning the NXT women's tag titles with Candice LeRae. Share your thoughts on the TNA in-ring debut of Indi Hartwell and a potential feud with Tasha Steelz. RENZO Delivers Standout Billie Eilish Cover on ‘The Voice'

RENZO continued to prove why he's one of the most unique vocalists on The Voice this season, earning a spot in the Playoffs after a powerful performance of Billie Eilish's 'Happier Than Ever' during Monday night's Knockouts episode (April 14). Paired with fellow Team Legend artist Nell Simmons, who performed Chaka Khan's 'Sweet Thing,' RENZO delivered a gripping, emotionally nuanced version of the 2021 hit. More from Billboard Katy Perry Posts Video of Her Blue Origin Flight Featuring Outer Space Reveal of Tour Setlist Lil Nas X Reveals Partial Paralysis of Right Side of His Face: 'I Can't Even Laugh Right' BTS' Jin Prepping Second Solo Album, 'Echo' Following the performance, coach John Legend praised Nell's performance as 'poised' and 'perfection,' but ultimately chose RENZO to move forward. 'Happier Than Ever' was the title track from Billie Eilish's sophomore album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2021. The song itself peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. RENZO's raw vocal style brought new weight to the song's emotional arc, which shifts from gentle melancholy to full-throttle anguish. His performance left the coaches visibly moved, and the audience responded with raucous applause. Later in the night, Team Legend's Olivia Kuper Harris also earned a spot in the next round with a sultry rendition of Donna Summer's 'Last Dance,' narrowly edging out Jacquelyn George, who tackled JoJo's 'Too Little Too Late.' Over on Team Bublé, Adam David took on Allen Stone's 'Unaware' and impressed coach Michael Bublé and winning over Carlos Santiago, who performed Calum Scott's 'You Are the Reason.' In another pairing, Jadyn Cree's performance of Avril Lavigne's 'Keep Holding On' earned her a spot in the Playoffs, with Bublé noting her voice 'cuts through.' Meanwhile, Team Kelsea's Knockout between Jaelen Johnston and Hailey Wright saw both artists step up. Hailey brought crowd-pleasing energy to the Patsy Montana classic 'I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart,' but Jaelen's take on Noah Kahan's 'Dial Drunk' ultimately secured his win. The night closed with a dramatic decision on Team Adam, where Conor James' rendition of Alphaville's 'Forever Young' narrowly beat Darius J.'s high-energy take on Estelle's 'American Boy.' However, Kelsea used her steal to bring Darius onto her team, saying, 'I've been waiting for this for so long.' With RENZO's Knockout victory, Team Legend's updated lineup heading into the Playoffs includes Ari Camille, Bryson Battle, Olivia Kuper Harris, and RENZO — a stacked roster for the live shows. The Voice Is Bringing Back Four Season 27 Contestants: Who Do You Think They Should Be?

The Voice Is Bringing Back Four Season 27 Contestants: Who Do You Think They Should Be? In the final moments of Monday's episode of The Voice — the conclusion of Season 27's Playoffs — six more artists were eliminated. Only maybe they weren't, not really. Host Carson Daly revealed to coaches John Legend, Adam Levine, Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Bublé that they were being allowed to offer Super Saves to four cut contestants and bring them back for the NBC sing-off's Lives (which kick off Monday, May 12, at 8/7c). Now, of course, the question is: Which vocalists should be given those coveted reprieves? More from TVLine Kelsea's choice oughta be easy peasy. She's got to bring back Jaelen Johnston, whom she never should have dropped in the first place. Not only was the fan favorite her only country artist, but he'd slayed in the Playoffs. Moving on… THE VOICE -- "The Knockouts Part 2" Episode 2710 -- Pictured: Divighn -- (Photo by: Tyler Golden/NBC) Michael's decision shouldn't be too hard to make, either. After the showstopper of a performance that Divighn gave in the Knockouts, he should be ushered not just back into the competition but straight on through to the finale. As for John… hmm. Whom he'll pick is a real question mark. Ari Camille and Olivia Kuper Harris both did well in the Playoffs, but in my heart of hearts, I'm hoping he'll go back further and give another chance to Nell Simmons, who got the chop in the KOs. Adam arguably faces the most difficult choice. Ethan Eckenroad is a true artist, he just has no stage presence. Britton Moore could develop into the next Shawn Mendes. But — and I'm sure there's no way this will happen — Adam should go back and unmake the mistake that he made sending Fran Posla home after her amazing performance in the Playoffs. Who do you think the coaches will bring back? And who are you hoping they'll bring back? Sound off in the comments below. Best of TVLine Sign up for TVLine's Newsletter. The Voice's Season 27 Frontrunner Sparks a Heated Debate: Where Do You Stand On Her Unique Tone?

One thing you've gotta say about The Voice's Lucia Flores-Wiseman: Nobody is on the fence about her. I was a fan from the first time I heard the 22-year-old, when her Blind Audition inspired her future coach Adam Levine as well as John Legend, Michael Bublé and Kelsea Ballerini to turn their chairs. A lotta viewers seemed to share my admiration for Flores-Wiseman, too. In fact, when I dared to give her Knockouts rendition of Benson Boone's 'Slow It Down' a grade of C- — largely owing to it having been absolutely the wrong song choice for her — boy, did I hear about it in the recap comments. Grade NBC's Martha Stewart-José Andrés Cooking Competition But along the way, I've noticed that my fave has amassed a number of detractors, too. After what I thought what a gorgeous rendition of 'My Funny Valentine' in the Battles, one recap reader remarked, 'I had to go find video of [American Idol's] Melinda Doolittle singing that song just to get Lucia's tortured version out of my head.' The Voice's 20 Best Performances of All Time, Ranked: The Good, the Badass and the Downright Amazing View List Following Flores-Wiseman's flawless cover of The Beatles' 'In My Life' in the Playoffs — you can listen above — the backlash grew. 'If [she] ends up winning, I'm done watching the show,' grumbled one commenter. Another rattled off the names of four eliminated contestants that she felt were 'all far better singer/performers than Lucia. Can't believe Adam kept her.' I get it. Flores-Wiseman's voice may be an acquired taste. The word that always comes to my mind to describe her tone is 'tangy.' I dig it. (She kinda reminds me of Victoria Williams.) Some people don't. But I'm curious: How many of you are actually with me in rooting for her to win Season 27, and how many are more like, 'Thank you, next'? Make your feelings known in the poll below, then back up your response in the comments.
