Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Ko Itakura reaches agreement with Ajax

and Sky Germany report that Borussia Mönchengladbach's Ko Itakura has reached an agreement with Ajax over a transfer. The Japanese international has agreed on a four-year contract with an option for a fifth year, while he is also expected to earn around €2-3m per year at Ajax. Gladbach and the Dutch side are yet to reach an agreement on a transfer fee, but it is expected that the clubs will agree on a fee soon. Previously, it was reported that the fee for Itakura will be around €8m. Itakura has been the number one candidate to leave Gladbach this summer after it was reported that he would not sign a contract extension at the club. Fellow Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven are also said to be interested in the 28-year-old, but Ajax have swooped in. Where Gladbach goes following the departure of Itakura is yet to be seen, but the money earned will allow them to reinvest in the squad, but whether they buy a new centre-back or give Fabio Chiarodia more game time is yet to be seen. Borussia Mönchengladbach boss denies reports of PSV offer for Ko Itakura

Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has denied fresh reports of a PSV Eindhoven offer for BMG defender Ko Itakura. The Bundesliga club boss, in a separate interview, has also commented on Gladbach's future plans for German midfielder Florian Neuhaus. Virkus spoke with both Kicker and Sport Bild. 'There is no offer for Ko,' Virkus told Kicker. 'There was a vague inquiry about four weeks ago, but nothing has happened since then.' 'There is no Virkus-Neuhaus case,' Virkus told Sport Bild when asked about his standing with the presently suspended midfielder. 'I am not a vindictive person. The club's values were violated. He was disciplined. That's the end of it.' Both Virkus and his fellow front office manager Stefan Stegemann have been clear about the fact that Neuhaus' situation will be reassessed after his month-long training demotion with the reserves has elapsed. Much as the Westphalians might wish to sell Neuhaus, a termination of the 28-year-old's contract isn't really an option. Buying Neuhaus out of his contract could cost Gladbach untold millions. Generally speaking, terminating a contract prematurely costs double what a player earns in a season. Neuhaus presently draws a €4m annual paycheck. GGFN |

Borussia Mönchengladbach's Ko Itakura appears headed to Frankfurt

The Rheinische Post reports Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Ko Itakura's most likely destination will be Eintracht Frankfurt. The Japanese international's lack of a future with his current Bundesliga club has never been in much doubt. RP claims that Eintracht are prepared to engage in a serious pursuit. The SGE must compensate for the presumed loss of long time defensive stalwart Tuta, who is being heavily linked with an exit. Itakura has been linked with a move to a whole plethora of Bundesliga sides, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund at one point. Advertisement Gladbach remain eager to complete Itakura's sale in order to raise capital and pursue their own summer transfer needs. Though the 28-year-old only maintains an estimated €12m market value, the foals can easily secure several million more for him. Itakura just completed a highly successful season in which he scored three of his career six Bundesliga goals. A €15-20m price tag seems reasonable. GGFN | Peter Weis
