Bangladeshi Passenger Tries To Break Through Glass Barrier At Kolkata Airport, Detained

Last Updated: Ashraful tried to forcefully break the glass partition in an apparent attempt to exit the terminal. Mohammad Ashraful, a Bangladeshi national en route from Singapore to Dhaka, was arrested at Kolkata Airport after attempting to break a glass barrier during a layover. Ashraful, who did not possess an Indian visa, was restricted to the international transit area and was not authorised to enter India. The Kolkata International Airport's terminal is designed with secure glass enclosures that prevent passengers from leaving the transit zone without following proper international transfer procedures. Despite this, around noon on Friday, Ashraful tried to forcefully break the glass partition in an apparent attempt to exit the terminal. Authorities remain unclear about his motive for trying to enter Kolkata without a visa. Following his arrest, Ashraful was questioned, and his responses raised suspicions, leading to his detention for further interrogation. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing. view comments First Published: August 02, 2025, 07:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Thai Lion Air Flight grounded at Kolkata airport with technical fault, departs safely with 96 passengers

New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): A Bangkok-bound Thai Lion Air plane, which was temporarily grounded at Kolkata Airport in the early hours of July 5 after encountering a technical issue during taxiing and forcing it to return to the bay, resumed flight operations successfully on Sunday. Flight TLM242 from Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok, arrived in Kolkata at 01:23 AM IST on July 5, carrying 151 passengers. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was scheduled to operate the return leg as TLM243. After being cleared for pushback from Stand 60R at 2:35 AM IST, the aircraft reported a technical malfunction and requested to return. It was re-parked at Stand 34 by 2:43 AM IST. The outbound flight was subsequently cancelled, and 130 passengers were deboarded and provided hotel accommodation. Airport authorities noted that the aircraft's extended stay on the apron also caused a 25-minute delay to an incoming Qatar Airways flight due to stand availability issues. Following inspections and technical clearance, the airline resumed services the next day. A rescheduled flight, operating under the call sign SL243D, took off from Kolkata at 6:17 AM IST on July 6, carrying 96 passengers to Bangkok. Earlier on Saturday, Thai Lion, having call sign TLM 242, landed at Kolkata Airport at 0123, with 151 Passengers on board from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The aircraft bearing registration HSLGS took Pushback from 60R at 0235. After taking Pushback, it reported Technical and requested a return to Bay. The flight with Call Sign TLM 243 once again parked at parking stand 34 at 0243. All 130 Passengers were sent to the Hotel. (ANI)

Thai Lion flight to Bangkok from Kolkata cancelled following ‘technical snag'

KOLKATA: A Thai Lion flight on Kolkata-Bangkok route was cancelled on Saturday after it returned to the parking bay at NSCBI Airport in Kolkata following detection of a 'technical snag'. All 130 passengers were disembarked from the flight and taken to a hotel. According to the AAI officials at the NSCBI Airport the flight was scheduled to take off from Kolkata at 2.35 am on Saturday. The plane started moving from the taxiway towards the runway at the specified time. But it suddenly stopped on the way to the runway. It is reported that the flap of the plane malfunctioned. It is alleged that the passengers were kept inside the plane for about three hours after the incident. The passengers said that the air conditioning system of the plane was not working. They had to face severe problems. At that time, the technicians were working on the wing. Finally, at 5:30 am on Saturday, the airline informed that a 'technical snag' had been detected in the Boeing 737-800 new generation aircraft and so it was unable to fly. An AAI official said the aircraft developed a flap-related problem. 'Thai Lion landed at Kolkata Airport at 1.23 am, with 151 passengers on board from Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The aircraft took push back from parking bay 60R at 2.35 am. After taking push back it reported a technical problem and requested return to bay. The flight once again parked at parking stand 34 at 2.43 am. All 130 passengers were sent to a hotel,' the official added.
