Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany walks out of meaningless press conference: 'Cheers!'

FC Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany saw no need to conduct a post match press conference yesterday. The Bundesliga title already having long been secured, Kompany had nothing to add after a 0-4 away win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on the season's final matchday. Kompany and the press officer at the PreZero Arena did show up in the press room, but showed little-no-interest in proceeding with the formality. Kompany was brought into the room early whilst TSG head coach Christian Ilzer, the Hoffenheim front office managerial representatives, and most of the journalists weren't ready to join. The press officer made clear that he wanted to get Kompany in, out, and on his way quickly. Advertisement 'We're joining to separate the press conference today so that we can all go home,' the press officer began. 'Thanks for your understanding and thanks for coming. I'll ask for the first questions for our head coach. Whoever wishes to begin can raise their hand and take the microphone.' Kompany wasn't prepared to let it go that far. 'I'm not expecting any questions,' Kompany remarked with a snarky smirk. 'Since we just won 4-0.' 'Yes there's been a bit of a logjam [of people getting into the room],' the press officer then went on to say as no one seemed interested in raising their hands. 'Maybe we'll give it a few more seconds, or just take photos today?' Kompany gave it all of 0.2 seconds. 'Cheers,' Kompany said raising a glass of water and getting up. 'Thanks to the lads!' Report details when tide turned in Florian Wirtz choosing Liverpool over Bayern Munich — did the executives and coaching staff give mixed messages?

There is a bizarre report coming out of England, which implies that someone at Bayern Munich killed the club's hopes for signing Florian Wirtz. Previously, reports indicated that Bayern Munich has an inconsistent plan for Wirtz with the executives communicating one thing and Kompany stating another. There were also reports that Liverpool FC's Arne Slot simply had a better vision and sales pitch for Wirtz. Advertisement This report from Express, however, paints a slightly different picture — one where someone (presumably head coach Vincent Kompany) — might have told Wirtz that he would not start centrally in the attack: Florian Wirtz has reportedly chosen to join Liverpool over Bayern Munich due to concerns about playing time, in addition to other factors. The forward is widely expected to sign for the Merseyside giants over the coming weeks after being earmarked as a top target by Arne Slot. If the move goes ahead, he will become one of the most expensive players in Premier League history. The player is thought to be hell-bent on joining the Reds and went house-hunting in the Merseyside area last week. One of the key factors behind his decision is the possibility of starting more games at Liverpool, according to Bild. It is said that Wirtz did not receive assurances from Bayern Munich, with the question of his role within the team 'not finally resolved'. The club were reportedly planning to start Jamal Musiala, who recently signed a long-term contract extension, ahead of him. This led to Wirtz facing a straight choice between Liverpool and Manchester City. The report adds that during initial talks, both clubs guaranteed the player 'a central role in attack' before he eventually settled on joining the Reds. Given the timing of things, it is now clear that Wirtz had already moved on from Bayern Munich in advance of his jaunt to England and definitely before all of the news dropped last Friday. Now, the focus must turn to why Wirtz was not going to get the opportunity to play centrally in the attack. Did Kompany tell Wirtz he would have to play wing? Does the club have an agreement with Jamal Musiala that would preclude them from the club pushing him out to wing (maybe a better position for him)? Most importantly, how did the club get this far along with Wirtz, only to not have a plan for how to address this potential issue? From previous reports, we can ascertain that talks with Bayern Munich's executives might have had a different idea for how Wirtz would fit as opposed to Kompany. Advertisement The failure to land Wirtz is a black mark on the club and shows a distinct lack of alignment if this report is true. Internally, the organization should be trying to discern how it fell apart, why it fell apart, and take action to ensure it does not happen again. From the outside looking in, it does not appear as if the executives pulling the strings and the coaching staff on the ground working with players were in agreement for an acquisition of Wirtz might look like — and that ultimately killed the deal. Bayern's Kompany wants focus on Hoffenheim before Sunday's title party

(Reuters) - Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany's focus is firmly on the last Bundesliga game of the season at Hoffenheim on Saturday and not the following day's title party in the Bavarian capital, he said on Friday. Bayern secured the Bundesliga title almost two weeks ago in Kompany's first season in charge, but Saturday's match could see the Bavarians go for the 100-goal mark this season. They have currently scored 95 league goals this term. It will also likely mark the second straight top Bundesliga scorer title for Bayern striker Harry Kane in his first two seasons in Germany, with no Bundesliga player ever having managed that feat in their first two seasons. Kane has netted 25 Bundesliga goals so far this season ahead of Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy with 20. It is, however, a far more important game for the struggling hosts Hoffenheim, who are three points above the relegation playoff spot currently occupied by Heidenheim. "For me the anticipation (for the title party in central Munich) is great because that was the goal; to bring the league trophy back to Munich," Kompany told a press conference. "But now I am only focused on the Hoffenheim game. That is the absolute priority and the preparation we are doing. We will enjoy what happens after that because we earned it." Last season Bayer Leverkusen won a domestic league and Cup double without defeat, snapping the Bavarians' 11-year title run. Bayern traditionally present the trophy from the balcony of Munich's city Hall to thousands of cheering fans. "I see every title as the first so that's why I'm looking forward to it," Belgian Kompany said. The Bavarians will then go into a two-week break before the squad comes together in early June for the Club World Cup in the United States starting later that month.

Kompany: Bayern won't make things easier for Hoffenheim

Munich coach Vincent Kompany gestures during the German Bundesliga soccer match between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Moenchengladblach at Allianz Arena. Tom Weller/dpa Bayern Munich have clinched the Bundesliga title in advance, but coach Vincent Kompany stressed that his team won't make things easier for Hoffenheim in the final matchday of the season. "We've won the title with lots of hard work and can't give any opponents the gift of allowing them a good afternoon against us," Kompany said in a news conference. Advertisement Hoffenheim are not fully safe from possible relegation. They are three points ahead of Heidenheim in the relegation play-off spot and have a superior goal difference of six. Kompany gave the squad a few days days off after the game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday and some Bayern players have reportedly taken a trip to the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza. Thomas Müller, Harry Kane and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer were among 13 players who according to the Bild paper had made the trip on Sunday, after receiving the trophy for the Bundesliga title the previous day. The trip was widely criticized because the season is not over yet, but Kompany said "that was a subject for the media." Advertisement "The subject for me was Hoffenheim and preparing for the game. We've now had the whole week to prepare for this game. We've had a lot of time to prepare. We've had a good week," he said. Bayern players had already planned an Ibiza trip after clinching the title some two weeks ago, but that was stopped by the club because it would set a bad example with the league still in progress. Bayern will officially celebrate the title next Sunday on the Munich city hall balcony - together with the women's team which has clinched a first ever German league and cup double this season. "We're really excited. It was our big goal to bring the Bundesliga back to Munich," Kompany said.
