Rangers activate RHP Chris Martin

June 5 - The Texas Rangers activated right-hander Chris Martin from the 15-day injured list on Thursday after he missed the last 14 games due to right shoulder fatigue. In a corresponding move, the Rangers optioned rookie right-hander Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock. Martin, who turned 39 on Monday, last pitched on May 18 when he exited after throwing one pitch in the eighth inning of the host Rangers' 4-3 loss to the Houston Astros. He is 0-4 this season with one save, a 1.83 ERA, three walks and 23 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings over 22 relief appearances. Martin is a career 16-22 with 15 saves, a 3.29 ERA, 48 walks and 380 strikeouts in 366 1/3 innings over 391 regular-season relief appearances for seven different major league teams since 2014. He's also gone 0-1 with one save, a 1.88 ERA, two walks and 10 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings over 16 postseason appearances. His career 7.92 strikeouts-to-walks ratio is the highest mark in Major League Baseball history among pitchers with at least 300 innings pitched, according to the Rangers. Rocker, 25, had been activated on Wednesday from the 15-day IL after missing 37 games with a right shoulder impingement. He started Wednesday night's game and allowed five runs, six hits, two walks and one hit batter with five strikeouts in a 5-4 loss to the host Tampa Bay Rays. He is 1-4 this season with an 8.87 ERA, seven walks and 21 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings over six games (all starts). --Field Level Media

Rangers send struggling RHP Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock

TAMPA, Fla. — The Texas Rangers optioned right-hander Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, a day after a rocky start after coming off the injured list. The Rangers made the move before the final game of the series between the Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays, and Texas manager Bruce Bochy said the decision was not about an error Rocker made during that game that led to a four-run third inning for the Rays in an eventual 5-4 win for Tampa Bay.

Rangers send struggling RHP Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Texas Rangers optioned right-hander Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, a day after a rocky start after coming off the injured list. Against the Rays on Wednesday and after getting Junior Caminero to ground out, Rocker was slow to cover first base, allowing Jake Mangum to reach and Yandy Diaz to score. Rocker then put his head down in frustration and didn't notice Jonathan Aranda breaking from third and scoring while the pitcher's back was turned. Bochy point out that the play could not happen, and pointed out Rocker's relative inexperience. 'You can't be late there, and then if you are, you can't forget the situation. So, just game awareness,' Bochy said of the botched play. 'There can be growing pains with some of these young players. He's got to learn from it, and hopefully it is something he remembers, something that can't happen. It just should be second nature. So the ball's hit over there, you're busting tail and covering first base.' Rocker, activated off the IL earlier Wednesday, was charged with five earned runs on six hits and two walks. He struck out five in 3⅓ innings. This season, the 25-year-old right-hander is 1-4 with an 8.87 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 23⅓ innings. The Rangers also activated pitcher Chris Martin from the injured list. ___ AP MLB:

Brandon Lowe's HR helps Rays take down Rangers

June 5 - Brandon Lowe went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs and the Tampa Bay Rays used a four-run third inning to top the visiting Texas Rangers 5-4 on Wednesday night. The second baseman homered in the first and hit an RBI double in the third as the Rays won for the 11th time in 14 games and moved to 20-19 at home in the New York Yankees' spring training park. Rays starter Shane Baz (5-3) surrendered three runs on five hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked one as Tampa Bay secured a three-game series win ahead of the Thursday finale. In its second loss in the first two games of a nine-game road trip, Texas got a two-run homer by Jonah Heim in a three-run fifth. Wyatt Langford finished 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. In his first start since May 28, slumping right fielder Adolis Garcia went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. In his first outing since April 23, having recovered from a right shoulder injury, starter Kumar Rocker (1-4) lasted just 3 1/3 innings and surrendered five runs on six hits. He fanned five, walked two and hit a batter as his ERA ballooned to 8.87. Lowe's offense was felt right away -- on the scoreboard and physically by the visitors. He smacked his 12th home run to straightaway center with one out in the first, lifting a low 91 mph changeup off the batter's eye. The ball bounced back into play and struck the face of Evan Carter, leaving the Texas center fielder with a bloodied upper lip. After Josh Lowe slapped a one-out double in the third, Brandon Lowe followed with a screaming two-bagger off the right field wall for a 2-0 lead. Jonathan Aranda's RBI single and Jake Mangum's single that plated a pair pushed it to a five-run advantage. Texas finally got to Baz in the fifth when Heim sliced an opposite-field homer to left, his seventh deep ball, to cut it to 5-2. Langford later doubled in Josh Smith. Following scoreless innings by Rays relievers Manuel Rodriguez, Mason Montgomery and Edwin Uceta, closer Pete Fairbanks allowed an unearned run in the ninth but earned his 11th save in 12 chances. --Field Level Media

Brandon Lowe hits solo HR, RBI double as Rays beat Rangers 5-4

Brandon Lowe hit a solo home run in the first inning and added an RBI double to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 on Wednesday night. Josh Lowe and Brandon Lowe hit back-to-back doubles and Yandy Díaz and Jonathan Aranda followed with consecutive singles before Jake Magnum's two-run single with two out capped Tampa Bay's four-run third inning and made it 5-0. TAMPA, FLORIDA - JUNE 03: Junior Caminero #13 of the Tampa Bay Rays runs the bases after hitting a home run in the eighth inning against the Texas Rangers at George M. Steinbrenner Field on June 03, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. Julio Aguilar / Getty Images Shane Baz (5-3) gave up three runs in five innings and Pete Fairbanks pitched a one-run ninth for his 11th save of the season. Kumar Rocker (1-4), who was activated from the 15-day injured list (shoulder) earlier Wednesday, gave up five runs in 3 1/3 innings. Jonah Heim hit a two-run home run with two out in the fifth inning. Josh Smith followed with a single and scored on a double by Wyatt Langford. Corey Seager drew a four-pitch walk before Baz struck out Josh Jung — the potential go-ahead run. Langford hurdled Rays first baseman Aranda to avoid being tagged and reached safely on a throwing error by shortstop José Caballero. Tampa Bay won the series opener, the first of nine straight road games for the Rangers, 5-1 on Tuesday. The Rangers have lost 11 of their last 15 games following a season-long six game win streak. Magnum hit a ground ball to first baseman Jake Burger that drove in Diaz and Aranda. Rocker was slow to cover first, which allowed Magnum to reach safely, and then held the ball as Aranda scored from second. The Rays have allowed four runs or fewer in 15 consecutive games, one shy of the franchise record set Sept. 16, 2021, to Oct. 3, 2021. Jack Leiter (4-2, 3.66 ERA) is set to take the mound for the Rays on Thursday against Ryan Pepiot (3-5, 3.21) in the finale of a three-game series.
