Kuwaiti legend Al-Mutawa extends career with Al-Qadsia

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: Al-Qadsia has officially announced the renewal of veteran star Bader Al-Mutawa's contract, solidifying his legacy with the "Yellow" club where he began his football journey in 2001. The move allows the 39-year-old icon to continue his illustrious career into a 24th season. Widely regarded as the most prominent figure in Kuwaiti football over the past two decades, Al-Mutawa remains a symbol of loyalty and excellence. Despite Al-Qadsia not securing any titles last season, Al-Mutawa left a noticeable impact with his performance and leadership on the pitch. In a statement on its official 'X' platform, Al-Qadsia wrote: "In a time when loyalties have changed and jerseys have been swapped, the legend Bader Al-Mutawa has remained loyal to Al-Qadsia, which has known no other home and held no other heart. There is still time for glory." The club aims to leverage Al-Mutawa's experience as it prepares for upcoming domestic and international competitions. His continued presence is expected to provide not only technical value but also serve as inspiration to younger players. KUWAIT CITY, June 9: Croatian coach Rodion Gasanin, known as "Radan," has officially returned to Kuwait after signing an agreement with Al-Jahra to take charge of the first football team for the upcoming season. Radan, 61, brings with him over 28 years of coaching experience. His career began in Croatia with clubs Opatija and Orient before he transitioned to the Gulf region. His impressive résumé includes stints with prominent clubs such as Kuwait Club, Al-Qadsiya, Al-Nasr (Kuwait and Saudi Arabia), Hajr, Al-Orouba (Saudi Arabia), Erbil (Iraq), Al-Muharraq SC and Al-Riffa (Bahrain), Al-Mesaimeer (Qatar), Al-Merreikh (Sudan), and Al-Ahli Benghazi (Libya). Radan also had a brief tenure with the Kuwait national team in 2008, which ended after a loss to Syria during the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Throughout his career, Radan has achieved notable success, securing multiple titles across various leagues. He led Al-Qadsiya to victories in the Kuwait Premier League, Amir's Cup, and Super Cup. With Kuwait Club, he captured both the league title and the Crown Prince Cup. His time in Bahrain was also fruitful, winning the league twice, the Crown Prince Cup three times, and the Federation Cup once. Al-Jahra's board of directors has already coordinated with Radan regarding the selection of three foreign players for the new season. This comes following the contract renewal of Tunisian defender Amr Ben Zekri and the signing of Brazilian midfielder Silva, who played for Al-Sulaibikhat last season. Al-Jahra recently earned promotion back to the Zain Premier League after finishing first in the Zain First Division League, and the club now looks to Radan to lead them into a competitive return at the top tier.

Kuwait Club seals fourth straight Volleyball Premier League title

KUWAIT CITY, May 14: Kuwait Club's first volleyball team claimed the Kuwait Premier League title, marking the 16th championship in the club's history and its fourth consecutive crown. Kuwait Club secured the title after defeating Burgan Club 3-0 in the second match of the playoff semifinals, held at Union Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Burgan Club celebrated a historic runner-up finish—the highest in its volleyball history—while Al-Arabi Club took third place with a 3-1 win over Kazma. According to league regulations, the Premier League champion is determined in a best-of-three playoff series. Kuwait Club secured the title early by winning both matches 3-0, making a third game unnecessary. Following the final, Dr. Jaber Al-Marri, President of the Kuwait Volleyball Association, along with Association members, Burgan Club President Anwar Al-Otaibi, and Kuwait Club representatives, crowned the top three teams. Dr. Al-Marri praised the high level of competition this season, stating that the 2024-2025 campaign was among the most competitive in recent years, with teams like Al-Qadsia, Al-Arabi, and Kazma fighting for the title until the final stages. He added that such competitiveness promises an even more exciting upcoming season and hopes for continued strong fan support. He also emphasized that the improvement in club-level performances reflects positively on the national team, expressing gratitude to the Public Authority for Sports and its acting director, Bashar Abdullah, for their ongoing support.
