Steyn relishes 'unreal night' as Glasgow sweep aside Stormers

Captain Kyle Steyn says Glasgow were motivated to give their departing players another week in the Warriors shirt as they swept the Stormers aside to reach the United Rugby Championship reigning champions ran in five tries to seal a 36-18 victory over the South African side and set up a showdown against either Leinster or Scarlets, who meet in Dublin on Saturday, in the last likes of Henco Venter and Tom Jordan are among a number of players leaving the club this summer, and Steyn was delighted they were able to enjoy a special night under the lights at Scotstoun."If it is the last one at home then I'm really chuffed for those men because they deserve a send-off like that," Steyn told BBC Scotland."It was just an unreal night, the way the fans got behind us. I got goose bumps the way they clapped Henco off at the end."We're really chuffed that we've earned another week to be out there with them and ready to rip into it."At this time of year it's not about being perfect. It's about being able to kind of roll with the dice and just keep going no matter what."I was really proud of our big boys up front. I thought the way they defended when we were close on our line really set the tone for us and then the backs were good off the back of that."

Huw Jones returns for Glasgow Warriors as XV named to face Benetton

The Scotland centre - named in the British and Irish Lions squad on Thursday - is back in the Warriors squad for the first time since his injury for Scotland back in March. Jones last featured for Glasgow in January and has since been recovery from an issue in the Six Nations finale. Fellow Lions call-ups Sione Tuipulotu and Zander Fagerson remain unavailable for this weekend's United Rugby Championships clash in Treviso. However, Scott Cummings - the fourth Warrior in the Lions squad list - does start at blindside for the match. Kyle Steyn captains Glasgow from the wing. Kyle Steyn has urged Glasgow Warriors to make the most of a rare weekend off to recharge their batteries for the season's run-in as they look to defend their United Rugby Championship title. They suffered a rare home defeat on Friday evening, going down 26-19 to the Bulls, but remain second in the standings, one point ahead of the South African side, with two rounds of fixtures remaining. If they can hang on to second place they will also have home advantage in the semis, should they make it that far. Warriors' Kyle Steyn scores a second half try against the Bulls. (Photo by Calum Chittleburgh / SNS Group) | SNS Group Before that, they will round off their regular season with tough away games at Benetton and Leinster on May 10 and 17 as they look to fend off the Bulls who finish with home matches against Cardiff and the Dragons. With Glasgow out of the Champions Cup, they've now got a free week and Steyn feels it is much needed after a gruelling season, particularly for the club's frontline Scotland players such as Rory Darge, Tom Jordan and Stafford McDowall. 'We've got to use the fact that we don't have a game this week to freshen up and be able to come back and then take the learnings and use the fresh energy to catapult us into this because we've got two really tough away games to finish and then it's into knockout rugby and whoever's coming here [in the quarter-final], it's going to be a tough game,' said the Warriors captain whose late try helped a secure an important bonus point in the Bulls defeat. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Look, I haven't played a lot of rugby this season so I'm probably a little bit better off than most of the boys but I know there are a lot of guys who, because of the injury list, haven't had the breaks they would have hoped for. 'TJ, Staff, Darge and a lot of those boys have come straight back from Scotland camp, and they've played a lot of rugby. So I think for them more than anything, this break will be good. 'I'm just going to rest up. Hopefully, if the weather allows, I'll get out on the golf course but I just won't mention the word rugby which will be quite nice for a week.' Injuries have taken their toll on Glasgow this season. Steyn himself has had two lengthy absences and the squad that took on the Bulls on Friday were without a host of international players, including Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones, Jack Dempsey and the Fagerson brothers. The brutal match against Jake White's side only exacerbated the injury problems, with Gregor Brown, Jack Mann and Patrick Schickerling all joining the crocked list. 'And we obviously lost Joshy [McKay] during the week [to a knee infection].

Four new players to boost Scotland squad

EDINBURGH, March 10 (Reuters) - Scotland have boosted their squad for their final Six Nations clash against France at the weekend with the inclusion of four new players, including a return after injury for winger Kyle Steyn. Coach Gregor Townsend, whose team edged Wales 35-29 at Murrayfield on Saturday, has also added Adam Hastings and Alexander Masibaka, while Jack Mann has completed his concussion protocols and is available for selection. Steyn has been struggling with a knee injury since January but returns as backs cover along with flyhalf Hastings, also over the injury which kept him out of potential selection for this year's Six Nations. Mann has been in the Scotland squad for the duration of the tournament but missed last weekend's game against the Welsh due to a concussion sustained playing for Glasgow Warriors in the United Rugby Championship on March 1. After following World Rugby's return-to-play protocols he can now play again. Back rower Alexander Masibaka, who plays for Soyaux-Angouleme in France, was selected in the squad for Scotland's opening Six Nations clash against Italy last month but then dropped thereafter. He is, however, now recalled. Cameron Henderson, Arron Reed, Cameron Redpath and Rory Hutchinson have all been axed from the squad, Scottish Rugby said on Monday. Scotland take on Six Nations leaders France in Paris on Saturday in the last game of this year's tournament.
