Real Madrid dealt Federico Valverde injury blow ahead of Club World Cup
The domestic season may have finished for Real Madrid, but that has not brought an end to their injury problems as they have at least more to deal with in the aftermath of Saturday's 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad. Brahim Diaz is believed to have suffered an adductor issue during the match at the Santiago Bernabeu, but while Real Madrid await the diagnosis on that one, they have revealed another issue problem – and this one is for Federico Valverde. He has been expected to be a very important player for new head coach Xabi Alonso in this summer's Club World Cup, and fortunately, he should be fine to play in the opener against Al Hilal on the 18th of June. The report from Marca has stated that Valverde should only be suffering with the injury for about a week, which means that he will be recovered in time to face the Saudi Pro League side at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It will be very interesting to see how Real Madrid line up against Al Hilal, especially as Alonso is expected to adopt the 3-4-3 system that he has used at Bayer Leverkusen over the last few years. Valverde will be an important part of this tactic, especially as his versatility will allow him to operate in multiple positions if needed.

Aguerd Pushes for West Ham Exit
Nayef Aguerd has dealt Graham Potter an early summer blow by making it clear he has no intention of returning to West Ham. The Moroccan international, currently on loan at Real Sociedad, had been earmarked for a return to the Hammers' squad as part of Potter's cost-conscious rebuild. But with financial constraints looming due to PSR regulations, the defender was seen as a ready-made solution to bolster the backline without dipping into the coffers. Instead, Aguerd has reportedly informed the club he wants out permanently, throwing a spanner in West Ham's transfer plans. The 28-year-old, who cost $40 million from Rennes in 2022, still has two years left on his deal but is eyeing a fresh start elsewhere where he can compete for silverware. West Ham now face the challenge of replacing him in an already thin squad, with exits expected across the board and doubts also surrounding Jean-Clair Todibo's future. Aguerd has been one of the best central defenders in La Liga this season, and because of this, there is bound to be plenty of speculation on his future. In recent weeks, he has been linked to Manchester United, and La Real would also dearly love to be able to retain his services on a permanent basis – and they should have the money to do so, given that Martin Zubimendi is expected to leave the club in the summer, with Arsenal favourites to sign him . However, it is not expected to be easy at all for La Real to retain Aguerd's services, with FootballFanCast stating that West Ham do not have any plans to let their defender leave during the summer transfer window, with new head coach Graham Potter keen to have him in his squad for the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season. Real Sociedad have wasted no time in replacing Imanol Alguacil, after it was announced that their long-term manager would be departing this summer upon the expiry of his contract. The 53-year-old will leave a long-lasting legacy at the club, following 6.5 years of consistent success. Alguacil will be hoping he can continue his record of qualifying the Txuri-Urdin for European football in every full season in which he has been in charge. With five games to go, La Real sit in 10th spot, but just two points back from Osasuna in a Conference League spot, and four back from Celta Vigo in a Europa League position. Advertisement After a lengthy spell, and a particularly long season, which has proven more difficult than previous years, Alguacil decided against continuing in his post. Girona manager Michel Sanchez and former Spain and Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui, who came through the academy at Zubieta, were cited as favourites for the job. He will pen a contract for two seasons until 2027, after arriving at the club eight years ago. Following five years and a promotion at Real Sociedad C, he is now in his third year at Real Sociedad B, where Relevo say he has been credited with 'doing a brilliant job.' The 46-year-old comes into the job as something of an unknown prospect though, but will be familiar with the tools at his disposal. Francisco played as a forward for La Real briefly, coming through the academy and making his first-team debut in 2000. He would then have a career in the third and fourth tier before retirement. With Real Sociedad B, he has managed a 5th-place finish, a 9th-place finish and is on track to make the play-offs for a second time, with the team in fourth position.

La Real travel to Las Palmas next on Sunday, as they try to push for a European spot. With their elimination from the Copa, eighth spot looks as if it will be enough for the Conference League. Real Sociedad currently lie 10th, two points off Rayo Vallecano in seventh.
