Avoid political affiliations, cultivate a questioning mind, Minister tells youth
Labour Minister and Dharwad district in-charge Santosh Lad has said that youth have a significant role to play in nation building and they should cultivate the habit of questioning while remaining independent of political affiliations. Inaugurating the Karnataka University Scheduled Castes Research and Postgraduate Students Association and Employees Association at Karnatak University in Dharwad on Monday, he asked youth to remember that the nation did not exclusively belong to the BJP, the Congress or any other political party. 'Everyone must come together to build the country. Positive thoughts must flourish in society. Students should avoid getting entangled in controversies and focus on academics to contribute meaningfully to the nation's progress,' he said. Elaborating on Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Mr. Lad said that through the Hindu Code Bill, Ambedkar ensured property rights for women and prioritised their educational and economic empowerment. Mr. Lad emphasised that Dr. Ambedkar's ideals must be embraced by all not just by members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the backward classes Underscoring the need for students to be careful about social media, he asked them to seek the truth behind what is seen on social media. 'Through study and understanding, real facts must be identified. When great leaders are spoken against, we must strongly condemn such acts,' he said. Amaresh Yatagal stressed the need for re-examining the contribution and history of Valmiki and Beda communities. He said that folklore literature revealed the history of the Beda community and references to the Beda community are also found in the histories of the Surpur kings and Sangolli Rayanna. Registrar (Evaluation) Nijaligappa Mattihal said that many communities have been deprived of education for centuries and they now have access to the world of letters and are slowly progressing socially. Along with making efforts for the development of these respective communities, one should remember to contribute towards building a united India, he said. President of Scheduled Castes Employees Association of the university Krishna Naik presided over the function. Valmiki Prasannananda Swami of Rajanahalli and Jnana Swaroopananda Swami were present. Achievers were honoured during the programme.

‘Number 5 is super common': Gastroenterologist lists signs that indicate your body might be missing key nutrients
Your digestive system does more than process food; it is crucial for absorbing both macronutrients and micronutrients. When something is wrong with your gut, it often shows through subtle signs in your body. Here are five signs to watch for, with the fifth being the most common, said Dr Saurabh Sethi, gastroenterologist and interventional endoscopist, in an Instagram reel. 1. Muscle cramps You may be low in magnesium, potassium, or calcium, especially if you sweat excessively. Dr. Saiprasad Girish Lad, a consultant gastroenterologist, hepatologist, and therapeutic GI endoscopist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, agreed that frequent cramps, especially after exercise or at night, could indicate a lack of electrolytes. 'You lose these minerals through sweat, and they may not be absorbed well if your digestive health is poor, especially with conditions like IBD, IBS, or chronic diarrhea,' said Dr Lad. 2. Grinding your teeth at night It is often linked to stress or sleep issues. But also check your magnesium and B vitamins. Dr Lad explained that low levels can affect nerve function and the quality of your sleep. 'If you have gut inflammation or absorption issues, these nutrients may not be adequately taken in even if you eat a good diet,' said Dr Lad. 3. Hair is falling out more than usual It could be a sign of low iron, zinc, protein, or Omega-3s, especially in women, Dr Sethi suggested. 'Since your stomach and small intestine start absorbing iron and protein, gut issues like gastritis, acid imbalance, or celiac disease can significantly contribute to hair loss,' said Dr Lad. 4. Tingling or numbness in fingers Often due to vitamin B12 deficiency, especially if you are vegan or over 50. Consider a vitamin B12 supplement if you are a vegan, said Dr Sethi. According to Dr Lad, B12 needs a healthy stomach lining and intrinsic factor for absorption. 'Conditions like atrophic gastritis, long-term antacid use, or gut surgery can disrupt this process,' said Dr Lad. 5. Brain fog that won't quit You may need more DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, which is crucial for brain health and can be found in fatty fish or fish oil supplements. Dr Lad said the most common signs are vague dizziness or difficulty concentrating. 'This is often related to low DHA, a vital omega-3 fat, when your diet lacks fatty fish or absorption is hindered by poor gut health. DHA supports brain function and overall mental clarity,' said Dr Lad. While multiple factors can contribute to cognitive sluggishness, DHA deficiency is a well-recognised cause, especially in individuals with low dietary fish intake, affirmed Dr Narander Singla, lead consultant, internal medicine, CK Birla Hospital, Delhi. Experts agreed that Dr Sethi's advice is medically sound, and anyone regularly experiencing these symptoms should consider having their nutrient levels checked through blood tests to address any underlying deficiencies effectively. 'If you notice these signs, it is not just about what you eat, but how well your gut processes it. A gastroenterologist can help determine if malabsorption or digestive problems are quietly draining your nutrient reserves,' said Dr Lad. Bank fraud: Min orders high-level probe into role of senior cop ‘cleared earlier'
Mumbai: Junior home minister Yogesh Kadam on Monday said an inquiry by either a DCP-level officer or a senior official from Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), if necessary, will be ordered into allegations of bribery made by legislators against a senior police officer in a case involving misappropriation of Rs 1.8 crore from North Kanara Gaud Saraswat Cooperative Bank. MLC Prasad Lad brought the matter to the attention of the legislative council through a calling attention motion. The council's deputy chairperson, Neelam Gorhe, ordered the cooperation department to also conduct a thorough probe into bank officials' roles. "It was revealed that a large-scale misappropriation of funds took place through diversion of crores of rupees from the frozen account of UB Engineering Company into various other accounts. An official complaint has been filed with the economic offences wing against the bank's chairman, vice-chairman, board of directors and other officials. Following the complaint, the chairman and the vice-chairman reportedly bribed a senior police inspector to prevent any action against them," Lad said. Dalvi was unavailable for comment. Kadam said an inquiry was earlier conducted against the officer, which found no evidence linking him to monetary gains in the fraud. "In fact, the fraud was by bank officials who have been penalised by RBI and have already paid Rs 50 lakh as fine. In the case of the police officer, we came to know that he had taken two bank loans and was negligent in the investigation, for which an inquiry was conducted. But we couldn't find any proof of him being involved in corruption," he said. But after repeated demands from MLCs, Kadam announced that a high-level inquiry would be ordered to ascertain if Dalvi or any other police officer was involved in the case. Gorhe said that the bank officials' role should also be probed by the state cooperation department. Kadam said a forensic audit of the bank has been conducted, adding that if any bank official is found guilty, s/he will face stringent punishment.

BJP raising Congress' internal matter to divert attention from real issues, alleges Lad
Labour Minister Santosh Lad, on Monday, alleged that the BJP has been looting the country's wealth for the last 11 years, and to cover up its scams and misrule, it is trying to highlight local issues and blowing them out of proportion. Speaking to the press persons in Hubballi on Monday, Mr. Lad said that the Congress-led State government has given good governance in the last two years. Instead of repeatedly pointing out 'fight for CM's chair', which is the party's internal matter, let them point out if any there is any mistake in governance, he said. He said that after Operation Sindoor was called off, American President Donald Trump repeatedly stated that he had stopped the war and disgraced India. Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trips to various nations to befriend them, 183 nations out of 193 sided with Pakistan. And Mr. Modi was forced to send Congress leader Shashi Tharoor to lead a delegation to other nations to present India's stand, Mr. Lad said, seeking to know why the Opposition is not raising questions over such issues. The Minister said that around two crore children had dropped out of schools across the country, and in Maharashtra, over 800 women had gotten their wombs removed to get work during their menstruation period. 'Should we not raise such issues? If we bring all these issues to debate, they will be in an embarrassing position. So to divert the attention, they (BJP) keep talking about our internal matter,' he said. Mr. Lad said that as per the RBI statement, ₹1.14 thousand crore of fake currency and ₹2,000 currency notes that were withdrawn were still in circulation. 'What steps has that Union government taken in this regard? They can criticise anyone on Earth, but we should not raise questions over real issues and seek answers from the Prime Minister. After all he is the Prime Minister of the country. Should we not question him?' he asked.
