Indian Army Soldiers, Families Will Not Have To Pay House Tax In This UP Area From Now
Last Updated:
Lakhimpur Nagar Palika has waived house tax for families of serving and retired soldiers as a mark of respect for their service and sacrifice to the nation
In a landmark move, the Lakhimpur Nagar Palika in Uttar Pradesh has announced a complete exemption from house tax for families of Indian Army soldiers, both serving and retired. This historic decision was taken in the wake of the Indian Army's resolute response to the April 22 terrorist attack in J&K's Pahalgam. The move reflects not only the town's gratitude but also a broader national sentiment of respect for the selfless service of the armed forces.
Nagar Palika President Dr Ira Srivastava, announcing the decision, stated that the exemption would apply to all soldiers posted along India's borders and would extend to their families residing within the municipality. Importantly, this tax relief is not limited to currently serving personnel; it also includes the families of retired soldiers, in recognition of their lifelong service.
'The brave men and women of our armed forces stand vigilant on the front lines in the harshest of conditions, so the rest of us may live in peace," said Dr Srivastava. 'Waiving the house tax is but a small token of our collective gratitude. It is a gesture of respect and appreciation for their courage, commitment, and sacrifice."
The Nagar Palika has also committed to ensuring that the areas where these families reside are provided with all essential civic amenities. Dr Srivastava reaffirmed that the local administration stands in solidarity with the Indian Army and its veterans, and will continue to support their welfare in every possible way.
A similar move was recently announced in Andhra Pradesh where the government initiated full property tax exemption for houses owned by Indian defence personnel within gram panchayat limits. 'From now on, all active personnel of the Indian defence forces, regardless of where they are posted, will be eligible for this benefit," deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan had said, adding that the exemption would apply to one house where the soldier or their spouse resides or jointly owns.
