Cong blames Nitish Govt for rise in crimes against women, demands accountability
New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) The Congress on Monday accused the NDA-led Bihar government for rise in crimes against women and demanded immediate accountability from the Nitish Kumar administration. 'Within just 15 days, numerous girls in Bihar have been subjected to horrific atrocities,' alleged All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba said while addressing a press conference alongside Uttarakhand Congress spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni. Lamba outlined a series of cases to highlight the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. 'In Muzaffarpur, a class 5 girl was raped and murdered. In Chhapra, a student was abducted while returning from school, then gang-raped and killed. A minor was gang-raped in Sitamarhi, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped in West Champaran, and two more minors were raped in Munger and Araria,' she stated. Accusing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of presiding over a period of "poor governance," Lamba said the responsibility for the situation squarely lies with him. 'We demand that the Bihar government ensure accountability in these issues,' she added. Raising the issue of Prajwal Revanna, accused of sexually assaulting women in Karnataka, Lamba claimed "had the Congress party not been in power in the state, Revanna would still be roaming free - the same person for whom Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned". Lamba also alleged that both the National Women's Commission and the State Women's Commission have become mere puppets of the BJP. She also slammed the governmentfor failing to deliver on promises regarding One Stop Centres, claiming they are "nowhere to be found either in the country or in Bihar". Meanwhile, Garima Mehra Dasauni targeted the BJP in Uttarakhand, accusing the party of misusing the Ankita Bhandari murder case for political gain. 'The BJP is so desperate for publicity that even before the verdict was out, it released a poster giving all credit to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami,' Dasauni said. "This BJP poster is filled with lies. It claims that the accused in the Ankita Bhandari case were jailed within 24 hours, which is completely false," Dasauni alleged. She also claimed that Uttarakhand has witnessed a rise in cases of crime against women in the last six months. 'Given the current situation, we need to save our daughters from the BJP. The involvement of BJP leaders is evident in several such cases in Uttarakhand,' she alleged. UNI RBE GNK

"Bhadh Juban Party": Congress's Lamba condemns BJP leaders' insults to army, demands action
New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba on Sunday condemned a series of insults by BJP leaders against the army and their families, attributing these remarks to alleged directives from the party to credit Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'Operation Sindoor'. During a press briefing, Lamba labelled the BJP as the 'Bhadh Juban Party' (Party of Foul Mouth), highlighting specific instances where BJP leaders, including MP Ramchandra Jangra, Minister Vijay Shah, and Deputy CM Jagdish Devda, made derogatory remarks, and demanded a special session of Parliament to address these issues and the security lapses in the Pahalgam terror attack. 'BJP leaders received orders from the top leadership to give the credit of 'Operation Sindoor' to Prime Minister Modi. In the race to give credit, the leaders of BJP, 'Bhadh Juban Party', lost their temper, forgot their language and started insulting the army. In this sequence, the leaders of the Bhadh Juban Party (BJP) also insulted the army as well as the martyrs and their families,' the Congress Mahila Morcha President stated. 'BJP MP Ramchandra Jangra insults the wives of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack. BJP MP Ramchandra Jangra says- The wives of those martyred in the Pahalgam attack did not have the spirit of a warrior, did not have enthusiasm, and did not have passion. That is why they were folding their hands and pleading. Earlier, Madhya Pradesh BJP minister Vijay Shah had also insulted the country's brave daughter, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. At the same time, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda stooped so low in giving credit to the Prime Minister that he insulted the Indian Army,' she added. She pointed out BJP's failure to address trolling and insults directed at the wife of the victim of the attack as well as the Foreign Secretary and argued against the lack of action. By recalling Modi's statement comparing businessmen to soldiers, Lamba argues that it sets a precedent for devaluing military service, which permeates through the party. Lamba further criticised the omnipresence of PM Modi's image in public spaces as part of an alleged credit-grabbing campaign for Operation Sindoor, contrasting it with the party's failure to address internal misconduct. 'Vinay Narwal ji's wife was trolled and insulted on social media for her views, but no legal action has been taken yet. Not only this, but the Foreign Secretary was trolled on social media for his statements and his daughters' numbers were made viral. But still, no action is taken. The strength of BJP leaders to insult the army, soldiers, martyrs and the families of martyrs comes from the history of Narendra Modi himself. Because Narendra Modi himself has said that 'a businessman has more courage than an army soldier',' she stated. 'The whole country is covered with hoardings; railway tickets carry Narendra Modi's photo, giving credit for 'Operation Sindoor'. Nothing has happened to date regarding the insulting statement of BJP minister Vijay Shah; the police remained silent. The entire party kept protecting him, but who took cognisance - the court. After Vijay Shah, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora, now Ramchandra Jangra has made derogatory comments but he is still in the party. In such a situation, the question is whether there is any morality left in the BJP or not,' she added. Lamba also put forward the demands of the opposition, stating, 'Our demand is: The need of the hour is to call a special session of Parliament. The country should be informed about 'Operation Sindoor' in a special session. Tribute should be paid to the martyrs and the army should be patted on the back. The government should also answer the country on the security lapse in Pahalgam. The Government should say when the terrorists of Pahalgam will be caught.' (ANI)

WATCH: Alka Lamba Confuses Operation Sindoor With Operation Blue Star; BJP Slams Congress Over Gaffe
All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba was attacked by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday after she accidentally called the recent counter-terror operation 'Operation Sindoor' 'Operation Blue Star' while addressing a media gathering at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi. In her comments to the press, Lamba called on the government to summon a session of Parliament to apprise lawmakers of what she erroneously referred to as "Operation Blue Star," a nod to the 1984 military operation inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar — a touchy topic in Indian political annals. Lamba in her statement blamed BJP leaders of politicising the latest military operation and glossing over the victims of the Poonch terror attack, while seeking credit for 'Operation Sindoor'. She also screened a video of BJP MP Vijay Shah making objectionable comments about Colonel Sophiya Qureshi. Joining her criticism, Lamba quoted Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, who stated that the Indian military forces and the country bow down before Prime Minister Narendra Modi for directing Operation Sindoor, which was conducted following a terror attack attributed to Pakistan. Upon realising her error, Lamba admitted the gaffe, saying, "The issues I raised were so serious that BJP leaders listened carefully and even noted every word. I thank them for that." In a sarcastic reply, she said, "If I mistakenly say something other than Operation Sindoor once, the BJP uses it to divert attention from the real issues." This is not ignorance It is mischief and deliberate Not slip of tongue but slip of mindset Undermine our forces is Congress objective Alka Lamba does it after Kharge ji, Manjunath , Channi and others.. Op Bluestar? — Shehzad Jai Hind (Modi Ka Parivar) (@Shehzad_Ind) May 25, 2025 The BJP was swift to pounce on the gaffe, with the party's spokesman Shehzad Poonawala denouncing Lamba's remark. "This is not ignorance, it is deliberate mischief — not a slip of the tongue, but a slip of mindset," Poonawala tweeted on X (formerly Twitter), blaming the Congress for discrediting the armed forces. The political controversy takes place at a time of increased sensitivity ever since India conducted recent counter-terror raids and the larger national debate regarding politicisation of military actions.

Congress Criticizes BJP Over Operation Sindoor Credit Claims; Alka Lamba's Slip Sparks Controversy
New Delhi: The Congress party has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to give undue credit for the success of Operation Sindoor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sidelining the role of India's defence forces. The party also demanded an apology from the Prime Minister and BJP president, alleging that senior party members have made repeated remarks that disrespect the military and families of martyrs. At a press conference in New Delhi, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba showcased video clips of statements made by BJP leaders including Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, minister Vijay Shah, and MP Ram Chander Jangra. She claimed these comments undermined the sacrifices and valor of Indian soldiers. One of the videos featured BJP MP Ram Chander Jangra suggesting that the wives of civilians killed in the Pahalgam terror attack lacked courage. According to Lamba, this statement reflects a dismissive attitude toward the victims and their families. Lamba also highlighted the online trolling faced by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, allegedly by BJP supporters, after he presented the government's official position on the issue. She added that Himanshi Narwal, the widow of martyr Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, was similarly abused online after she called for peace. While pointing out that legal proceedings are underway—some on the orders of the judiciary—Lamba questioned the BJP's moral position in defending such remarks made by its leaders. During her address, Lamba mistakenly referred to Operation Sindoor as Operation Blue Star—a historical reference to a 1984 military action. She later clarified that the slip was being used by BJP leaders to distract from the real issues she was raising. Responding to the incident, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized the comment and accused Congress of attempting to undermine the armed forces. Lamba renewed her party's call for an all-party meeting chaired by the Prime Minister and demanded a special Parliament session to discuss Operation Sindoor. She questioned the government's rationale for sending opposition MPs abroad to explain India's stance while avoiding a discussion in Parliament. She also referred to concerns from residents along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, who felt overlooked in the Prime Minister's recent addresses. In contrast, she noted, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the region twice to express solidarity with victims of terrorism and cross-border shelling. Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian armed forces, targeted multiple terror hideouts in response to the Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The operation marked a significant counter-terrorism initiative across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

PATNA: The Congress on Wednesday promised to transfer Rs 2,500 into women's bank accounts each month under 'Mai Behan Maan Yojana' if the INDIA bloc was elected to power in Bihar in the forthcoming Assembly election. The party's women's cell national president, Alka Lamba, and state chief Rajesh Kumar said the scheme would provide financial assistance to women from all sections of society. 'The decision to apprise people about 'Mai Behan Maan Yojna' was approved by the Coordination Committee of the INDIA bloc,' Rajesh Kumar told the media. He said the grand old party workers have been asked to inform people of the party's promise if they are voted to power. The relationship between two major allies of the opposition INDIA bloc in Bihar, the RJD and the Congress, has generated interest ever since the grand old party started shedding old inhibitions and asserting itself, taking its ally off guard. The dole for women is part of the Congress' new strategy. Lamba said her party will ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach every woman in recently released a poster about the dole. RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had announced to launch 'Mai Behan Maan Yojana' in December last year itself, promising to credit a similar amount of money per month in the bank accounts of women if his party formed the next government in the state. Now, Lamba claims the same thing: 'Mai Behan Maan Yojna' will cover women from all castes and all sections of society.' Although women are considered a strong vote bank of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's JD (U), all parties are trying to increase their support base among these caste-neutral voters. Move part of Congress plan The dole for women is part of the Congress' new strategy. Lamba said her party will ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach every woman in Bihar.
